It's finally time everyone! GB for GMK Violet Tendencies will be opening Sunday, April 22nd and running through May 20th! Kit layouts are directly below this blurb, and are set in stone. Apologies to those of you whose changes I couldn't implement, there was a lot of compromises that had to be made to make everyone at least a little happy. Update 8/28/17 -
We've got an EU proxy set up. Which means faster and cheaper shipping for you folks. 40/45% kit will now include 8 extra (2 for each row) 1u keys, maybe with the proper text mods on them, maybe blank, waiting on pricing quotes. Will also include a 2u purple and a 2u gr1 for the ortho folks. Kit renders (and fixes) will be done soon!
Update 12/4/17 - It seems my estimated GB will not be February as I'd hoped. I failed to discuss the time frame with the vendor that is helping me with it, and he's picked a different set to help run before mine. Seeing as how that set will be somewhat similar, I'm going to have to put mine off for some time, so as not to flood the market with too many purple themed keysets. To conclude; this set will still happen, but it's going to be put on the back burner for a while. Apologies to everyone who's been eagerly following me, and checking in weekly.
Update 01/26/2018 - Not much of an update, but for the sake of transparency (of which is sometimes lacking in our hobby), I'll keep y'all up to date. Not much has progressed. I've not had any luck finding someone to do renders that I can afford (if y'all know someone, send em my way ;) ). The vendor that was chosen seems to be full up for another 4 months at least, so I'm not certain if we can still go that route. I'd really like to, but this needs to happen in 2018, preferably the first half of 2018. So there we are! Not a good update I realize, but, as I keep saying, this will happen! Hope everyone had a good holiday, and has started a happier new year!
Update 03/28/2018 - New kit design is done. New vendor has been chosen. I'm happy to announce that Dixiemech (of GMK 9009 fame) will be running the GB. Thank you all for following through all this! We'll very soon have estimated launch dates, and official renders and pricing. For obvious reasons, I'm not going to speculate. I guess all I can say (again) is stay tuned! It's finally happening!

- For the Vimcaps, please remember this time to make the homing in the same method, i remember other sets had different homing for the vimcaps of the same set, for example deep hooming for the F and line-homing for J (it doesn't make any sense)

Yeah, I know a lot of kits are due out soon, but with GMK's lead times quickly approaching that of SP's as time goes on, I'm likely going to launch very very soon and hope for the best.I'm terrified for when GMK takes as long as SP/SA keys.

Couldn't you at least try it and just not go through if it misses moq? Like isn't that how GB are supposed to work? I would never ever consider a 40/45/ortho kit, even for spacebars that's stupid expensive for a bunch of keys I would never use and a few spacebars, but i'd gladly buy a spacebar kit. It also seems to me like a 40/45/ortho kit would have a much harder time hitting moq in a small GB than a spacebar kit. But if you split them off you split whos paying for what since people who don't want 40/45 kits would still buy spacebars, then you drive the price of the 45 kit down and help increase sales there also.
I don't feel like there should be much issue hitting MOQ with standard colors. You could also do hybrid and do GR1 split spacebars in the 40/45 addon and then just DY spacebars as a stand alone kit. The 3 standard spaces at 150 moq in standard color is only 10 a kit, i cant imagine it would be much more than $15-20 for the splits too. Nautilus space kit was $23 at 100 moq WITH a custom colors and the yellow splits in addition to the blue keys. -4 keys I'd guess like $18-20.
Nautilus also sold 1 spacekit per every 2-3 full kits, so it's not like there was no interest.
If nothing else you could still just do what you described above and also offer a purple spacebar kit with the 4 standard size spaces (both 6u since some people will want the center stem). I just don't think it would be a hard sell at $10 a kit, especially given the number of OTHER kits they would work with. I might even just push it through myself.

I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try, and would also make the 40/45 kit cheaper. The reason I'm focusing on that addon kit, is because it's almost already reached moq (people whom I trust have said they are buying a kit or 3, and as said earlier in thread, we're showcasing it on the mm2, so would be silly not to have coverage). I guess if I do a space kit, and I can get the price low enough, I can help it reach moq as well.
I guess I'm just talking against myself here, I'll go ahead and throw together a space kit this weekend :)

I think the colours are perfect as is tbh. GR1 is much a much nicer match for this set than CP, WS1 or WS2 I'd say.
As far as the bar/scooped It looks like both will be included with the kit, so that's awesome too. I know pleny that prefer bars to scoops.

Yay. GR1 is naic. I wouldn't even consider it if it were ruined with a warm white when purple is a cool color. GR1 looks awesome and next to N9 because of how we perceive contrast, it totally looks white anyway (just like hydro).

Even tho having those mod color is 'the standard' it looks terrible on high contrast sets imo.

What i was saying is that there are many keys already, some are missing sure but if OP has to make everyone happy with other keycaps with other colors, the price will be too high for others initially interested in this set :D I mean i'm ok to add 1 keycap to support another layout, but starting to make other colors for keycaps that are already in the set is a no-no imho (solely for the price increase)

This could be awesome, but if the MOQ is still 100 or 150 (like the set with standard colors), i really doubt such a kit will happen unless is runned from Massdrop (not this set)

Hey folks! Sorry for my absence! I've been in transition for the last couple months while closing on a new house. Just got all moved in, and slowly getting my office set up. With the recent drop of laser, along with a billion other kits, I've decided to wait until February most likely, to run the GB. My render guy has become too expensive for me (hell, even ramen is too expensive for me now after buying this house), so I'll have to find some other way to come up with the final renders. The base kit has been adjusted quite a bit. F5,6,7,8 in GR1 have been added as well :D, it's coming in at 162 keys, no idea on pricing, but it wont be super cheap. But I'll keep it as cheap as I possibly can, while still making sure those doing the heavy lifting are compensated fairly for their time an effort. The 40/45/Basic ortho kit has been trimmed down drastically and will only have about 20 keys. The space bar kit is looking like it'll be about 10 keys. I'll throw up some default renders of kit contents in a few days.
Edit; On second(or 40th) thought, after seeing the base kit coverage for laser, I might ask mito if I can copy his coverage... That way It'd just be 1 kit, plus the space bar kit... Thoughts?

Glad to see that everything is alright with you and that things are moving along. Laser kits would be really helpful I think since it would cover most things. I don't see this GB's kits not hitting MOQ since everyone and their mothers all love purple around here.

I dont know i like inclusive sets like Laser. I think in the end it helps lower cost for everyone. I would guess most people in the community run are have a non standard board. With inclusive kit.. something that might cost 20-30 dollars extra ends up being 10-15 dollars extra.. which leads to more buy ins which leads to price drops. Which in turn leads to it being 30-40 dollars cheaper when all is said and done.

But, we'll get there. Considering I only started working on this set 6 months ago, and only 3 months ago did we decide it was actually going to happen, it hasn't really been that long. Most kits take a year or two. I'll still run it in 2018, but people will need time to heal from other kits, and yule time, etc etc. Running my kit too soon after another purple kit, through the same vendor, would likely not yield the best results. I'm as bummed as you all are that it wont be running sooner, but that's the way things go. It'll all work out, everyone will be (mostly)happy! :)

GMK has a long lead time at the moment, it'll never be a 3 month delivery. That's just the way it is, no matter how much money we throw at it, or how popular it is. It's not the year+ SP has for SA sets, but it'll be substantial. 6 months after group buy finishes is a good estimate. Might (probably) be more, doubt it'll be less. There's nothing we as vendors/designers can do about it.

As another Portlander who did a GMK set, Vox is absolutely correct. It's at least 3 months from money in hand until production is done.

It was a rendering mistake. I believe the duplicate dark Function keys are supposed to be purple.

They were indeed a rendering oversight, The extra F5-F8 will likely be GR1 to give an uniform F row option. Still haven't had any luck finding anyone to do revised kit renders.

Don't know if it's just me but I greatly prefer Violet Tendencies over Black Lotus. Much prefer the deeper darker purple of this set.
Haha, thanks. I obviously much prefer my keyset over his, but maybe I'm a bit biased :p Though to be fair, he's been trying to get his made for much longer than I have mine. I also suppose this will give me more time to generate more interest, more renders, maybe add some novelties if enough people are interested. As it stands now, I'm not sure that if I were to run in Feb as I'd hoped, it'd even reach moq. Hundreds of people have shown interest, but statistics show that only about 1/4 of the people that say they'll purchase, actually buy it. So for now, I'll just keep working on renders, and generating more hype, so that hopefully when we do go live, there wont be any doubt that it'll reach MOQ. (Also maybe by that time, I'll be able to afford to buy more sets personally, just in case.)
Did Violet Tendencies had standard gmk colors or custom colors? I mean 150 units should be pretty easy to reach, even without Massdrop.

Yes, all standard colors, so indeed 150 will be the moq. After watching a few other sets fail to reach moq, I'm not so certain "only" 150 kits sold is as easy as people think it is. But, we'll get there. Considering I only started working on this set 6 months ago, and only 3 months ago did we decide it was actually going to happen, it hasn't really been that long. Most kits take a year or two. I'll still run it in 2018, but people will need time to heal from other kits, and yule time, etc etc. Running my kit too soon after another purple kit, through the same vendor, would likely not yield the best results. I'm as bummed as you all are that it wont be running sooner, but that's the way things go. It'll all work out, everyone will be (mostly)happy! :)

There's a 1.5u Delete, but no 1.5u Backspace, which is needed for anyone like me who likes to use split backspace and then map backspace to where backslash normally is (and have Delete immediately above as a 1u key in the top right). Would definitely agree that I'd like to see a true 1.5u Backspace in all GMK sets; it's weird that it's there in many of them but missing from a ton, even recent ones.

Splitting up sets is usually not a good idea for gmk.
You could split all color options from the main set and create a subset including uniform f-row, to get more/most people on board but at that point you might aswell keep it all in the base set which will make the overall process easier and potentially cheaper then having to buy the add on set.
Again I'm good either way, and I'm definitely in on the buy, but I really feel these 4 keys deserve a higher priority
I apologize, fren, the uniform F key option had to be cut to meet budget restrictions. I really tried, honestly. Ortho coverage ended up being more important :(

Oops, thanks for reminding me, GB will be open until May 20th. As far as too soon, I'm not sure. A couple people have expressed your concerns, but a lot more people have told me to just run it already. It's been almost a year of paying for renders and spreading them around, I'm confident it'll work out just fine. I appreciate the feedback!

Yeah, I had to make a lot of compromises to get the coverage I wanted and still be able to keep it as cheap as possible. You're probably thinking "but you have accent Vim keys?!?", those made the cut simply because I received a billion messages telling me how much they were liked. I did my best to make everyone happy, but there's always going to be something missing some people want :(

Yeah, there was a debate over the Delete or Backspace, and backspace won out. But that should be the only thing missing (and really not that big of a deal, to me anyway). Got rid of OS specific legends altogether, so it should fit just about anything.

Thanks for pointing that out! It was an oversight. There will be a 1.5 Code and a 1.5 Super :) Render will be fixed to show as such when we launch tomorrow!

Sorry folks, the renders were made long before the kit was finalized. Compromises had to be made to insure maximum coverage for a decent price. If I'd kept the extra arrows instead of 4 other keys that were needed to cover other boards, I'd have people angry about that instead. As much as I'd like to, I can't make everyone 100% happy :(
