You want em, I'll give you Tp's at the original group buy cost ($45.) He forgets I did him a favor by letting him in hours after the deadline, and continues to be a douche. I mean really, who does that?

You didn't do me any favor that was not also a benefit to yourself. Time to get off your high horse, and stop lording what little power you think you have over others.

don't get me wrong, I appreciate that you let me in on the group buy,,

But, the fact that you would use your control over the caps to threaten my opinion,, twice,, that is a low move,,

Please no threadcrapping in this post.  We actually want to get more people for this group buy to make the cost drop as much as possible.  Including the people from Singapore, I believe we have around 400+ people at this point.  If we can reach 500, then we can drop even further :)

Edit: By the way, the set might cost around $50ish.  We're still not sure about the exact pricing.

Im not sure if the kits will go much further below 45$ per 87u kit, however itll be nice if all kits got to the lowest price point.

Hi organizers,

I have a suggestion. The optional num row (black on red) key caps are really attractive. It is the sole reason why I've decided to join in the MO.

To make the set more "complete", I suggest to have the roman number pad (for 104's) available on black on red as well. I'm sure you can put this as an optional thing (just like how you've made the num pad optional, just that with 2 more choices).

I really really hope you consider it.

It was discussed a few pages back, and there will, in fact, be a optional roman numeral numpad set =3

Oh right, no, it was red on black, like the rest. Hazeluff said that it would be too obstructive if it was red base, which I will have to agree with him on. I doubt there will be a black on red numpad addon.

No. It is my suggestion.

I meant giving an option for a "black on red" version.

Aww man.. it's not !!! It's a very good contrast and its also the reason i'm joining the MO. I have asked people (from my country ~ around 15 of them) on the MO thread if they were willing to let go the black on red caps for a good price since I wanted just that. I was actually willing to pay half of the cost of the 87's for the optional key caps, for just about 14 of them? but none replied.

well, at least make it an option please and see the feedback first! In fact, after I get the 104 set, i'll just take the red optional caps and sell the rest off immediately. Haha..

Have you seen the font on the blackwidow? The 7 r and L look exactly the same but rotated. God the font on it pisses me off. I love lights = 3. Pretty pretty lights~

hazeluff, when SP told you about the limitations on the machining process did they also told you, expecifically, if such limitations were due to the carving tools, or due to the routing machine?

I dont want to beat a dead horse here, but with the amount of interest this GB has generated we might be looking into a posible 20k or 30k$ purchase, wich might be enough to justify buying more adecuated carving tooling (but not an entirely new machine ofc).

I believe the limitation is the doubleshot process itself.  When the legend plastic is shot into the keycap it will only flow into spaces that are so small.  Melissa told me that the smallest cutter size they can use with doubleshots is 0.012".

As far as I know the limitation is imposed by how doubleshots are made:

1) The plastic needs to flow into the legend that is cut out with the cutter -> A minimum thickness of a area/line.
2) How the material holds up if we cut two lines really close -> A minimum distance between lines (this isn't a problem here)
3) They use a drill bit as a cutter, which limits how sharp we can get a corner -> It's as sharp as the drill bit.

I think on my mind at the moment is using some rediculously thin drill (even thinner than the line we are drawing) instead of using one drill to just draw a line. But even then It is very possible the plastic doesn't flow into the corners.

The order has already been put towards new "tooling", which will be the legends. Usually we wouldn't be able to afford the legends. It would make a set like $80+ for a very basic TKL let. But with this we can push a very extensive base set to something like $60.

As the owner of a red-LED-backlit Ducky Shine which could be made so much more awesome with Exocet keycaps, I have the following queries:

  • Would it be possible to produce a set with translucent legends?
  • How many would need to be produced to make this worth the time/money?
  • How many people would be interested in such a thing?

1) Nope, SP won't do it. The doubleshot mesh behind the key doesn't allow much light through. Well it does a little but SP still won't do it.

Guys I think 2) and 3) he was referring to a translucent set... So answering is silly = /

But IF it were possible

2) You would want at least 50. (You probably won't find that, most people here aren't a fan of backlit...)
3) Not many given the tastes of this forum.

If we are talking in general about this set, then we are way past the "worth it" mark. we're actually in the "HOLY **** THIS IS CHEAP" area.

a few quick questions.  again, some of these issues may just be the mock-up, and might not be realized in the final casting, but i figured i'd ask anyhow.
  • margins on the multi-legend keys aren't consistent with those with single legends, and the legends simply don't line up when looking at the single legend key beside it.
  • those arrows are just so heavy.  i still prefer the style of them over the 'defaults', but they don't match with the feel of the rest of the legends.  is it possible to render something more svelte?
  • the menu (scroll/script) legend is out of proportion to the other legends (ctrl/alt), and while the windows tyrael/diablo keys are full-face legends,  i'm not sure the scroll/script key should be.

1. sry, don't get it. blame my short english
2. arrows are in change now. not sure which one will used in final product
3. considered about using symbols, and still considering it. (but we cannot use exocet on them, too small.), also. if we use symbols, base kit will be more expensive.

1) No the legend's margins are not consistent. It is a concept. It will be properly done when I make the legends.
2) This may change. But what I see is more people wanting the current version of the arrows.
3) Once again, it's a concept. Sizes will change from the image.

correct.

But to add onto that:

It will not have proper keys for like pgup pgdw. They will be the wrong profile. Also we don't have specific keys for the switchlock key.

For the record, I agree with what he says but it’s not much of an issue, not really worth mentioning. There might be others thinking the same.

The arrows are actually pretty good but when I start looking at them, they almost seem human, lol.

I, too, think that the arrow keys are a little thick. Thinning them down, while still maintaining some of the style they have now, would be ideal, imo.

Legend update:

-Diablo and Tyreal keys had some troubles with SP, so they had to be changed.

New legend design:

-Arrows reworked very slightly (I did these before the recent suggestions about them tho).
-Scroll made smaller.

Damn those looked so good too, sad they didn't make it into the set.

Rest of the set still looks amazing though.

Called it, but they still look fine.

You mean how the legends were too complex. I knew that way before hand xD

Aren’t menu keys normally centered or slightly left aligned?

That’s not slightly. Anyway, I checked through my keyboards, and Cherry apparently does it pretty much like this. Just that their variant looks VERY ugly because it’s completely different to alt/control. Eh stupid spacing, the more you look at it, the uglier it gets.
I like the centered Filco version.
/e: Zowie: Aligned to the right. (WAT) Very slightly. Looks nice, too.
