Quick Update

New Pics from GMK

GMK is experiencing last minute QC issues with packaging. This pushed back the delivery to me. I anticipate to have orders shipping out by 03/30/2018

Sorry for the lack of updates on Geekhack, everyone. I am getting much more active and will be more diligent about updating here. If all else fails the product pages on our site are updated consistently when new things brew up, so you can always check there or email us at orders@thekey.company

Update 02/28/18

I got word from GMK that production of the kits are completed. They are being sorted as I write this. I requested a photo, as soon as I get it I will post here. We are currently waiting for them to finish sorting, and waiting for the banderoles to be printed. We are on track for delivery in Mid March.

Update 1/11/18

So here is the latest. Payment was sent to GMK back on 10/23/2017

We got a sample of the red color from GMK and it wasn't quite right. We requested a new color sample back in November and still have not received it. GMK tells me the plastics company is slow to send a new color sample. I will update as soon as we have the new sample so everyone is in the know. The good news: The beige and black were spot on.

So needless to say, this is going to delay the manufacturing date by at least a few months. I HATE these types of things and try VERY hard to give people reasonable timelines so as to not disappoint. I will keep you all in the loop as more transpires. [/b]

Hey all. First off, we wanted to give a huge thanks to everyone who has participated in the LedZep GB thus far. It's bringing back the excitement we felt during the >Terminal_ buy, and we really enjoy the interactions with everyone!

It's the home stretch! Less than 2 weeks to go on /u/thesiscamper's Led Zeppelin-inspired brainchild. For those who are new around these mechanical parts, we'll start from the top: LedZep will be manufactured with GMK's legendary double-shot ABS process (the finest ABS in all the land), with proper profile coverage for most layouts. The keyset's theme is inspired by the cover of Led Zeppelin's Mothership album, as are the LedZep accessories. The GB will be ending 09/26/17 at midnight PST, so time is running out. Just like >Terminal_ we'll be fulfilling Led Zep like there's no tomorrow, to minimize the wait once received from GMK.

Oh, and the GMK LedZep Alternative Spacebar Kit has been added! You pay no additional shipping in addition to GMK LedZep Base! However, please not that we will not process any spacebar-only orders - if you've already participated in the GMK LedZep GB you are good. =)

This time around, don't forget that we have proxies in both the EU and Asia, as well as safer expedited shipping internationally via DHL to improve on transit times vs. >Terminal_!

I get where you're coming from, and you're not wrong. There probably should have been an explicit disclaimer about delays due to the custom color.

I will say, not that two wrongs make a right, but this set is still on track to ship faster than some of the other custom color sets. If the first sample isn't right, it takes GMK time to reformulate and produce a new sample and they work at their own pace.

Keyboard and Company took infamously 13 months for production, which I think is a GMK GB record. I think part of that was on Oco but it is what it is.

If you want quick turnarounds on GMK sets, make sure to select sets that use their house colors (sets like 9009, WoB, Signal - GMK house colors are always denoted by two letters or two letters and a number like DY or TU2) or pay the premium and buy in-stock sets at places like Oco.

I spoke to thesiscamper about this before. He told me that those are just guide renders of GMK. That's not really that accurate. I was also concerned about the colors. But he assured me that the colors are fine. That's why we're asking for the actuals. Hopefully it's really close to the renders that thesiscamper made.

Great to see the progress. Is the exposure or processing correct on the pictures? It is looking more like a GMK Yuri orange than red to me.

I believe the photo to be wildly overexposed (I stated that in the imgur album). I included an image of the alpha cap to show the actual representation of the color. I didnt have a red cap here to do the same; I wish I could, Binge has it to color match the Artisans.

At first glance, that looks like GMK Carbon. However, I assume those pics were taken under the bright lights.
Hope I'll get my hands on this set ASAP.

Yup. Exposure, white balance, camera calibration or mode used, monitor calibration, processing, color space change. Too many variables can throw the colors out from the image.

To those concerned about the color, look at the keyboard Enter key: it's so overexposed, you can't see the right hand slope down.

GMK contacted me to inform that the shipment was further delayed due to a QC concern regarding packaging. I anticipate this to push shipping back by one week. GMK are great at making keycaps but seem to suck at taking images.

Their first set of images caused quite the concern for their editing mistake so it is better to wait some days and get better ones from TheKey. The last one including the matching pad gives great peace that everything came out well.

I agree. The first pic was total amateur hour. The second pic was taken by their social media manager for their insta page. When the set lands here on Thursday Im going to grab some awesome shots and post them right away.
