I lost track, this is going to be an expedited group buy and won't be included in Group Buy 4 right? If so, I'm just going to cancel my order over there, and probably buy a set or something... I've got invoice 9

There will be similar stuff in Round 4. Just have to do the SVG graphics ...

I've heard others say that they got their color samples for free.  You could just email Melissa.  Or I can, if you'd prefer, and have her send it to you.

I doubt this!

I had to pay $35 as everybody.

Yeah I'll ask Melissa about combining the common keys in the two sets.  I described to her what I wanted to do, and this is what she came back with.  I assume that means it's the cheapest way to do it, but maybe not?

I asked Melissa about treating the common portion of the two sets (2 Ctrl, 2 Alt, 2 Win, 1 right Shift) as a single set, and ordering the 1.25x and 2.25x left Shifts as single keys.  She came back with rejiggered prices that added up to essentially the same totals (one or two pennies cheaper on the ANSI side, and 60 cents or so more expensive on the ISO side).

So, if the combined ISO + ANSI orders put us in a good bracket, we can take advantage of that to get a shared volume discount.  This is really good news for the ISO guys.

Please indicate whether you're interested in just Esc, just RGB, or Esc+RGB; a rough guesstimate of how many you might want to order (assuming a decent price); and what country you live in.

Interested in Esc+RGB:
1x ESC
1x RGB

Located in USA.

Great news! Means it could be easier on the wallet all around and us UK folk get our ISO shifts :)

Okay so the interest thread seems to have run its course.  Seems very likely we will get more than 75 Escapes, putting us into the $1.76 per key bracket.  This is awesome.

On the other hand, based on what people have posted here we will just barely make the 25 set cutoff for the RGBY sets.  That puts us at around $19.38 for the ANSI sets and $15.74 for the ISO sets (the ISOs are cheaper because the 1.25x left Shift can shares some kind of discount with Ctrl/Alt/Win).  And there's still shipping and SP's setup fees to factor in.

The setup cost is $45 for each of the two left Shift variants.  Distributing this among those interested in each so far yields:
$45 / 19 ANSI orderers = $2.37
$45 / 8 ISO orderers = $5.63

That leaves us at $21.75 for an ANSI set and $21.37 for an ISO set.  I haven't looked into shipping in detail yet, but I imagine it will be similar to other buys.  Something like $5 inside the US and $6-$15 elsewhere, depending on shipping method.

How does everyone feel about this?  Personally, it's more than I was hoping to pay for the RGBY set.  We have a few options:

A) Drop the yellow Win key (I'm not sure what effect this will have on price)
B) Drop the RGBY set altogether and just do REDESC
C) Drop the RGBY set if we don't hit 50 in the actual order thread
D) Stay the course.  $22+shipping is fine!
E) None of the above

Discuss.

D. 22$+shipping may not be cheap but I don't find it crazy expensive either. Also, more people may jump on the GB when a deadline is set, making setup fees cheaper.

At the 50 price, I would be interested in one. At the current price, I'm not. I don't even have a befitting cherry board to put these on anymore, I just feel like I should have them for when I get one.

Wyse buy colors were GSY for the dark grey, GBA for the light grey, and BBI for the fonts.

By all means you're not forced to order at the current price point but why are you voting to drop it? That makes no sense for the rest of the people that are okay with the price.

I'm still interested in 2 red ESC

I'm interested in 1 RGBY set (still contingent on final design. More specifically, if it's super ugly, I'll be out, but I'd be pretty happy with whatever.)
but I'm not that interested in 1 RGB set.

So I'm all for option "D". Looks like a good deal to me.

Another thing we need to finalize before I can post the order thread is what legend we want on the yellow Win keys.  As buymaster I'm going to veto the "Cherry star" from the DT buy, simply because I really don't like it.  Personally I would be fine with the Windows logo, but I know some of you don't like that.  There's also the diamond symbol from other group buys.  (Anyone have a link?)

Nominate what you'd like to see, and I'll put up a poll.

I assume that the cherry logo has also been discarded. I thus vote for the diamond or other standard SP symbols. This should also make the kit cheaper, since those are text symbols that don't require a costum svg.
You can see the diamond in this ripster-tastic pic:

Colors!
« Reply #178 on: Sat, 29 October 2011, 17:54:17 »
There's also the matter of choosing a blue for the Alts and a yellow for the Wins.  I really like the colors of sixty's Rebel kit from the DT group buy:

[ Attachment Invalid Or Does Not Exist ] 30332

My only concern is that the white legends look like they might be hard to see on the yellow.  Anyone know the color codes for these keys?

In the meantime, this is the best image I could find of SP's color samples:

[ Attachment Invalid Or Does Not Exist ] 30329

The blue from aggiejy's RGB buy is BFN.  Based on the above image, my picks are BO, BFP, BFK, or BOH.  It's hard to judge color subtlety from a snapshot, but I think I like BFK best.  Well, maybe BOH.

aggiejy's red and green look fantastic IMO, and I think they might match the Rebel kit:

edit: I'm guessing the Rebel kit yellow is YBP?  The others seem pretty bland.

I vote for diamond or "super" on the Yellow key.

BFK or maybe BO look good for blue.

YBP looks a little yellow-orange for me, How about YY or YCH?

VV, VCS, VCJ looks good on the green. (I love VV best, but that's just me)

Just my input :)

You know if there wasn't a sample pic with the color codes, nobody would understand what we're talking about.

VV sure looks good with the EKS but at the same time SER compliments FQW better than the FQF, but I'm open to any VVC or VCV as long as we have OAS as the main. lol

I'd say that VV does look good, but using WA of WFK won't work out for YBP/YY; I propose GX or similar, but we maybe can't do VV with that.

I guess the hardest part about RGBY is getting VV/VCS/VCM, RA/RR/RCQ, BFP/BFK/BO/BOH, and YY/YCH/YBP to all mach with a decent WA/GX/GB, etc.

Perhaps a neutral GAY is the best option here?

Back on topic: no love for the single alt key for noppoo choco minis? :(

As far as I can tell, only you and eyeshield21san have expressed interest in Choc-compatible keys.  I'll send Melissa an email about it tomorrow night and see what she comes back with on Monday.

Looking at a picture of a Choc though, it seems like a lot of special keys ... does anyone know the relevant sizes for sure?  Control and left Alt look like 1.5x, and right Shift maybe 1.75x?  Plus a 1x left Win and 1x right Alt.  All these would be new legends and subject to the $35-$45 setup fees.

My suggestion is to start up a sub-interest thread to rally Choc lovers.  If there's demand, I'm happy to accommodate.

I'd like to keep the legends white to match white-on-black doubleshot sets, which is what I believe most of us will be using these with.

I did post this at DT already, the thread didn't raise much interest though. As for the colors, I'm more into the Rebel RGBY ones, especially for the blue and yellow. I PMd sixty to enquiry about the color codes, but he hasn't replied yet. Legends should be white, I hope we all agree on this. And despite some pictures, I think white on yellow will also be well readable on the actual keys, specially if we do the diamond shape, which is bold enough.

EDIT: I could not find other pictures of the diamond key (search should really be implemented here at GH...) but those are the SP text symbols, straight from Round 4 wiki. Diamond is probably the best, but triangle is not bad as well.

cycloverid is starting work on the Escape SVG.  He's also going to rescale the moogle legends to better match authentic Cherry caps (this will not require new legend fees).

As soon as we have the SVGs in hand and Melissa gives them the thumbs up, I'll open the order thread and we'll get this thing underway.

Oh, and if anyone has access to an authentic Cherry red Escape (or high-resolution photos of one), cycloverid is looking for reference material.  I'll be PMing ripster and reaper about it.
