I bet his reserve is set at least at $100 or so (mine would be).
-
How can I research an internet store? I want to trust GeekStuff4U.com, but I have never ordered anything from there. Should i just order it and risk taking a loss? It is the only site on the net that clains to be able to get the HHKB Pro2 and I so want to order one.
-
Worst case scenario, your credit card company covers your butt. That's the beauty of credit cards.
(BTW, I can't believe the hard case is $43)
-
That is another of my problems, I use pre-paid credit cards because I am really bad with money.
And yes, that is pretty excessive for a case.
-
GeekStuff4U just responded to me about the Happy Hacking Keyboard. The guy says that they have the Pro 2 model I want in stock and that they ship in 3-4 business days. It has to ship from Japan, and that is why they got back to me on labor day. I feel a little better about that now, especially since they are still made for Japan with US layouts, they are just not sold here anymore (their site says they stopped making them in December of '06).
-
I'd feel pretty confident ordering from them. Even if you use a pre-paid credit card, the CC company should provide you with some protection if something goes wrong.
It surprises me that PFU never sold the HHKB Pro 2 in the US via their online store. They still have the HHKB Pro for sale though (which is the one I have). I'm pretty sure the only diff is that the 2 version comes with USB 2.0.
Let us know when you order and, obviously, when you receive it.
-
You know I will. I think this is the one I am going to get.
-
This listing is up to $157.50 and the reserve isn't even met yet. Is this guy thinking this a new product or are they that hard to find now? If this one goes for over $200 I'm going to laugh.

I wouldn't be surprised if his reserve is $200 or more. (I certainly wouldn't pay that for a used HHKB Pro though)
-
Nor would I. I still plan to buy a new one at $250 next week, so who should we really be laughing at here ...
-
So I ended up bidding on it anyway. PayPal insurence is my friend if I win this damn thing.

I see the seller has ZERO feedback to date. I find it hard to believe that someone into computing as much as someone who owns TWO HHKB Pro's would have never bought nor sold anything on Ebay before. That may be a red flag.
Whoa! Member since 1999! And has never had a transaction. that's weird.
-
I know, I am kind of relying on buyer protection here. A friend of mine got taken for about $400 once, and he got his money back in a couple of months.
If you dig in his profile, he has bought items on Ebay before, but not since January. My number drops after a while and my comments have dropped off. I have had a lot more then 10 transactions on Ebay, but that is all you see.
I'll hope for the best if I win it, I really want one for my collection - even though I am all about the Alps right now.
-
Well, I won the keyboard, so wish me luck.

Well, it didn't, not quite.
-
After I won the item, the seller and I had a little email conversation, and I feel better about this now. I'll know for sure in a couple of weeks.
-
Just got a tracking number from the seller, so my way-to-expencive keyboard is on it's way.

It came today, I am so happy I could cry. It even came in the original box, and on Saturday. The item is in brand new condition and clean.
This guy shipped it the day it cleared PayPal, so he is trustworthy even though I gave him his first feedback point.
I took it to work tonight and got it all set up and typed for a while and I like it a lot so far. I like that it feels so different than everything else I have, but in a good way. It's really quiet and I wasn't expecting that at all, but I don't mind. I like the Fn key and how it works to. I am so used to keyboard shortcuts that the placement of the key is perfect - even for the arrows.
Anyway, I gotta go to bed, I'll post pics tomorrow.
I'm afraid to take a keycap off though, so don't expect one of those pics.
iMav, which do you prefer, the Model M mini or the HHKB Pro?
Mine is the Pro 2, so what's the difference - is it just the USB 2.0 hub (which is blazing fast, BTW) or are there other changes?

I like both. :) The Model M mini is my current favorite...but I like the HHKB Pro so much that I didn't want it sent over to Iraq. So take that for what it is worth.
The only difference is the USB speed...otherwise, the Pro and the Pro 2 are identical.

This is so different to type on - the keys feel so good though. Crazy.
It's gonna be a slug-fest around here to decide on a favorite between the SMK 85 and this one ...
I think the black printing on the black keys looks soooo good, and at night they may as well be blank.
I'm no hacker, but I am happy with the Happy Hacking Keyboard, the most overpriced product I own. 8)

So you have the best possible keyboard. Could it be now that your journey is over?
-
So you have the best possible keyboard. Could it be now that your journey is over?
Maybe. I at least have a couple of good contenders. But this is by far the coolest keyboard I own. I'd like to get a holster for it and take it everywhere.
Give me a couple days, we'll see where this goes. Either way, it was worth every cent.

Damn, I want one now. How much did it cost you? How much would it cost from Japan?

I got this one on Ebay for $200, new they'll cost you around $280 with shipping from this place:
http://www.geekstuff4u.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=&products_id=346
I haven't found any others, and that one comes from Japan, which explains the $25 they want for shipping.
If you are looking for one used, good luck. I have been watching Ebay for one of these for about 6 months and all I saw was the HHKB Lites, not the Pros. I got really lucky because this is the exact model I wanted.
And yeah, I think the search is over for a while. The only problem I have with it so far is with how it handles me typing double characters like in "look." I often end up with ""lok," which bags but it is more my laziness that I have to overcome to remedy this one.

difference between the Pro and the Lite?

difference between the Pro and the Lite?
Electrical capacitive switches v. membrane switches.
-
The lite has membrane instead of switches and it costs about $160 less. Plus it has arrow keys.
