Help with backplate
« on: Wed, 29 January 2014, 14:18:38 »
So i rencetly started to desing my own keyboard i`m only stuck with one part the backplate. I found it rly hard to get even a poor amout of imfromation in this toppic and so im stuck in the producing.
I make this toppic in the hope to get help because i think im not the first nor the last one who has trouble with this.

I dont rly get the distances right betwean each key. my callculations work fine for the top row 123... but it produces gaps especialy in the shift row and by the spacebar there its a gap around 25mm. I know ive should have taken 19.05 gona fix that. but that doesnt produce such gaps of 3-25 mm

I calculate the distances like this
From side to esc:     1*14/2+3=x
From esc to 1:    14+5=x
For biger keys (side to key):  units*14/2+3
For biger keys to other keys: units*14/2+5+units*14/2   (units like 1.25to1.25 or 1to2.75)

I hope for help eventhough im a new member and i did a lot of research on this and dindt find much helpful.
Here are some pics of my problem:

So i made a first plate which fits pretty good. But there is a problem. I used these:http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=45206.0 and the pahntom data to design the backplate.
So my request is could you look at it because evrything fits on the left side and on the keyboard but on the right side i get different gaps from the keycaps to the border. Thanks :D

I think your measurements are just a bit off...

See if this is any better (attached)

Thank you for being so kind and awnsering me so fast :D . I only cant realy use your data. Evrytime i measure it i get redicilous numbers such as 5.05Zoll ca 12mm betwen 1er Keys and the spacebar is acording to that the spacebar is 12Zolls/32cm wide? And it doesnt change if i use a difrend CAD programm. So is there any sort of copy protection or something? Or do i make a misstake.
I know im asking a lot and aprechiate your helpfulness.  :thumb:
side note: i tried it with Solidworks and autodesk

I think i figured the problem out its a convertaion failure could you try to save it as .DXF file this should work.
And did you also have troubles with the measurement. If yes ill upload a .DXF myself.
