True.. true...  but there's just something about Cherry ML switches I can't quite put my finger on it.

This. Initially they felt odd, but I kinda found their sweet spot, and now I just love 'em. I'm even using mine as my office keyboard!

I have 4 of them now and I used them for more then 10 years. A new one has indeed a very elegant tactile response, when the key is bottom down, I can feel the spring. Not the same though on a 10 year old one. After 10 years, they still work, but the springs are worn, I guess. I like the ML switches, kind on MX brown.
I got the first 3 for free, 12 years ago, from a project for TI (or Motorola ? - I'm not sure).

The black has tampo-printed keycaps. Cherry is pretty good at printing, but still, they will fade after a few years. I saw some (actually 25 of them ! ) on eBay, G84-4100SPAUS, which have sublimated keycaps. They are listed as 'Used', but those keycaps are very durable, and they are quite rare. My newest is G84-4100LCAUS, which has laser etched keycaps. I like them very much, there is only the laser mark, no infill, so they are very durable.
I'm waiting for a white Noppoo Mini, which I bought from qtan5370, for I wanted a stronger built and they look very similar to G84-4100.

Add me to the club. I just got my first mechanical keyboard ever yesterday (model G84-ML4100PTAUS / 03) and I am really enjoying it. In the beginning I found hard to hit the Backspace, Right Shift, and Enter keys consistently, but after just one day I am quite accurate. I can type now on this keyboard consistently at 85 wpm.

The one I got is rather particular in that the key layout is very strange. Instead of F1 to F10 keys it has M0 to M9 keys. Also, there are two blank keys. The one in the bottom is a soft key that on its own with M0 and M1 activates F11 and F12, and which combined with the Shift key activates the virtual numeric keypad layer.

Just a couple notes about the key action. I have read some places that the tactile bump takes place before the key registers, so that the tactile feel is unrelated to the key being typed. While this is technically true, it is almost impossible to get the tactile feedback and not have the key register. Even if you try to make this happen, it is hard to do it. In real typing it is a non issue. I actually find the tactile feedback really nice on the keyboard. The other thing is that while some keys feel somewhat scratchy and they give you the impression that if you don't hit them right in the center of the key they will get stuck, this never happens. At least it never happens to me.

I also saw some comments about the build of the keyboard being flimsy. I don't agree with that. The keyboard is very small and light and doesn't have a backplate. But it is solidly built, it is a quality product. Certainly worth more than the $20 including shipping that I paid for the keyboard new.

Any idea what this layout is for? I haven't found anything online about it. The keyboard is perfectly useable. The Left Alt key actually registers as the Tilde (which is what you normally see in this keyboard's usual layout.)
