Etcetera65

Background

Hi yall, _ookies here
For quite some time now, I've been looking for a 65% board. However, I can't seem to find one with all the features I want in a board.

So I decided to make my own keyboard, taking inspiration from previous designs and combining it into one neat package.

Inspiration
This board is the combination of several features that I liked from other boards. The Plateless/PCB mount of the 7V(Gok), the leaf spring design from nemui(Bachoo), the accent/pen bar from j-02(Jae), Etc.

Specs:
  • 6.5 degree typing angle
  • Case material: 6063 aluminum
  • Accent Bar material: PVD copper
  • Plate: an fr4 plate will be included for people who prefer a stiffer typing experience
  • Mounting: pcb-leaf-spring-top mount
  • 20.28mm front height
  • Feet: SKUF feet

Colour option:
  • Beige
  • Grey
  • EWhite

PCB and Layout:
  • 1.6mm PCB
  • QMK and VIA compatible
  • Comes with c3 daughterboard and jst cable
  • Only solder version planned for now
  • both solder and hotswap option available

If you do add a hotswap pcb, I will definitely have more interest, but this is honestly an interesting board. I'll keep an eye on the project for sure

Would be interested in seeing the board from a left angle, to better see the accent piece

It’s platelets so hotswap won’t happen

While I don't fully believe it myself, the maker alexa is supposed to do plateless hotswap well https://www.makerkeyboards.com/products/alexa

I'll find out when mine gets here. Someday.

Looks good. Do you plan to support ISO on the board?

good to know. i tried platless with every millmax socket available and it doesnt even work for a minute, but the alexa page says that the new hotswap sockets have been tried for months.... good news but ill believe it when i see it.

yea hotswap was not included due to it being plateless. tho i might add hotswap as an option if people dont mind using a plate. even the Alexa has a solder PCB for 'extra plateless stability'

have you tested the pcb? with such a flexible material, plateless, and long arms i imagine it will feel way too soft and mushy with too much movement.

Yup, i have build the prototype with gateron yellows and plateless(typing this message with the prototype). i will add a typing test video soon, haven't gotten the time to record a video haha. so far i don't think it is too mushy in normal typing. sure it flexes alot when pressed hard but on normal usage it feels soft instead of mushy.

Fully built, the proto weights 1.755Kg. Tho I'm currently testing on adding an internal weight to improve acoustics

Looks really good. Would love it if there was an option for a silver-colored (PVD stainless steel or alu, for instance) accent bar rather than just the copper one.

Hey guys
Sorry for taking so long but I'm finally finished with designing everything
I've also ordered several prototypes, this includes the board, PCB, packaging etc.
I'm planning on sending a few to reviewers and if all things goes well we could look into planning the GB

This is my type of board, Iso, hotswap. Just not sure how plateless would work on a hotswap pcb, but it would definetley shake up the market.
