I've always wanted to get more into the gundam building. Do you guys watch the show a lot or do you just like the models?
I've never actually gotten into the shows, I might have to sometime
I've built about 10 and love the whole process, yet I've never seen even a single episode.

My favorite designs are from the Astray line.

Glad to see more Gunpla lovers here. Nice to see some familiar faces as well :)

My first airbrush and compressor only costed 100 bucks. A used Testors AC100 and a Iwata Neo CN. The paint is a big upfront cost as well but a batch of well selected paints will last you many kits. The more concerning part about painting is work space availability as some paints can be toxic and all of them spray particles everywhere which can be difficult to deal with if you don't have proper ventilation.

My most recently finished build was the MG Char's Zaku!

If you're interested in any of the techniques used take a look at the WIP Album and some more finished images

Received and built a Konig Wolf HA yesterday (it has been on my wishlist for a while...!)

I really love the color scheme...the shade of blue is wonderful.

IDK if I've ever seen a zoid kit that was really bad yet.

Sister has this sitting in her room waiting to be built.  I wanna build it so bad.

Haven't seen that one before, but it's by Kotobukiya so you can't go wrong.

Bandai is the king of model kits, and Kotobukiya is a strong runner-up. The only others Koto kits I've built were the Rockman ones, though I've got my eyes set on the EVAs.

That said, the best places to get Gunpla from, besides your local hobby shop, are AmiAmi or HLJ if you're importing, or else Gundam Planet or, if directly by Bluefin, Amazon. Keep in mind that the boxes are HUGE, so shipping will add up. It's best to get a few kits at once than one at a time.

think this is something a beginner can make :o?

Wow, that looks gorgeous. I'd say go for it, but be patient.

HG model kits are geared more toward beginners, but they're smaller and, oddly enough, I find them more difficult to work with because of the tiny pieces. MGs just have more pieces, are bigger, and take longer to build, but I don't think they're more complicated.

yeah I recently found it. I used to think there was only a set number of models (all from gundam wing because thats how I got into the mechs). But I've come to find theres a lot more :)

So I just got a real grade Astray Red but I'm to afraid to start on it. What is the best way of removing individual pieces from their trays without breaking them?

Snip close to the runner and cut the rest of the nub off with a hobby knife.

The God Hand is the best nib cutter, but a bit expensive. A Tamiya one is a very good beginner's cutter. Then an Xacto is fine for cutting off the remainder, then sand it off. It's been a couple of years since I last built a Gunpla, so I forget which grits to get. I think 600 as the starting point? Someone here can give better info.

For the budget friendly with good quality:

Better than tamiya entry level but lesser than the tamiya sharp pointed.  God hands are awesome(have my own) but for the cost the tamiya sharp pointed is what everyone should be using.  Make sure to switch blades to a new one if you feel it's not cutting the way it's supposed to be.

http://www.amazon.com/Xacto-X3311-Precision-Knife-Blades/dp/B0000DD1N4/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1448907872&sr=8-7&keywords=x-acto
I personally prefer OLFA blades(the people who make tamiya's hobby knives) over x-acto but you can't go wrong with the availability of these.  You can just find blades at walmart if you need replacements.

http://www.amazon.com/3M-Wetordry-Sandpaper-03006-Assorted/dp/B005JPGTNI/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1448907934&sr=8-11&keywords=sandpaper+pack
Cut these in to squares and sand away.  Fold them over a few times for rigidity or glue them on to small Popsicle sticks.  Like with all sanding you start with the most aggressive first and build up in to the least aggressive(1000grit to 2500 grit).

Oh and this place is nice and full of friendly people:

Link to the wiki first because that's important.
