how come you never measured the spacebar? I'm afraid it's going to feel stiff because of that mounting position.
I am so excited for another S&R board. Just one question, will you offer WKL as an option?
with your plate it seems like you started out with keycults public no.2 plate files 🤔lulwut
Would love to see the smith & rune logo somewhere on the front, even if subtle. I really want that extra designer detail like the iron165 if you would consider it :)
So for a logo and f13, our idea is to include an artisan anodized and matched to the color of the top case for a couple reasons.

Not a lot of keycaps sets cover f13, this way it blends right into the case and doesn’t stand out like a sore thumb. Second, if you don't like branding cause I know there are TKL purist you can remove it all together. And lastly, if you do have a F13 keyset you can simply use F13 key and move it to escape or another location if you like the logo.
We liked the idea of people being able to reuse the badge or extra badges purchased with the Iron165 but couldn’t find a good fit for it on the board.
Oh man this looks beautiful. I'm hoping to make this my first keyboard group buy purchase. Any idea on how much one of these kits will cost, an estimate?
Thanks

We're still finalizing some of the details so nothing concrete just yet. We'll continue to update the IC here though when we have more info.
I am literally ready to buy these boards. I hope this keyboard would not be some kind of raffle like Keycult ones, those are impossible to getIt’s very likely going to be FCFS or a raffle-style sale
really regret not getting the 165, will definitely try my luck with this
Would appreciate if we can have a look at the back side of the board and an inside blast view too in the future renders.
Also, I want to ask if you would be offering a WKL version?
I'm really happy it comes with ISO :D I originally saw the IRON180 on the PBT Graen and now I want it.
The green with the brass looking amazing! Will it be a limited to a number of x number of sales or an y time frame? I think it would be best to have a group buy over a 24 hour or 1+ week period. I only say this because I seen some cases limited to 20 or so cases which is pretty annoying for buyers.
why worry about pinpoint flex on a brass material plate without switches or caps modeled instead of just using a more flexible plate material to provide flex
This is legit the keyboard I have been looking ofr for such a log time, like honestly i will cry if I miss out on this. please release a large amount of stock
also is there plans for the pcb to be hot swap?
Could the black bottom option come with black screws because the silver screws really pop out?
I support a navy option as well.
This looks awesome! Love the design, and I'm very much in the market if I can't convince a U80-A buyer they should part ways with the board they will be just getting :))
The show of plate design iterations was informative and gives me confidence that you all know what you are talking about!

U80-A Buyer here. Just out of curiosity, what color were you interested in? Not sure where I stand on parting with it because I do really like the design, but this board has an ANSI bottom row, which I definitely prefer.
If u are willing to part with yours I’d be interested, the waiting for a possibility of getting a U80A extra is stopping me from pulling the trigger on some of these GBs.This looks awesome! At least as many as the Iron165 (which was 200, divided 100/50/50 across USA/EU/APAC respectively). However we might try to talk vendors into a bit more!
I am praying they make enough of these boards so I can have a shot of buying one
I've been lurking on this forum for the better part of the last decade, but I have never felt to need to register and comment on anything, until now.
This is like the elusive keyboard that haunted my wet dreams just materialized. It's amazing!
Hope I will catch a spot on the GB list as I'm in dire need of a new daily keyboard to serve me for the years to come.
I have a question though, is there any chance of having a hot swap PCB or will this affect the stability and the feel of the keyboard? Recently I came across some hot swap keyboards, and the fact you can swap the switches whenever you want is an insane amount of added value for a keyboard.
The issue is flexibility. I love hotswap too, but with it comes a fixed layout. ANSI, ISO, symmetric bottom row, split backspace and shift keys, etc. All of those layout options would require separate PCBs, substantially driving up cost. That’s particularly problematic if the GB for the board is limited, as there are fewer buyers to split the additional cost.
I’m super indecisive when it comes to switches. I hope extra PCBs and plates will be offered alongside the board so I can at least put tactiles on one and linears on another/ have an extra in case I mess something up. My soldering is respectable, but I’m not comfortable de-soldering an entire PCB of switches just to change them out. Having a cheaper hotswap board to try/break in switches before moving them to a soldered, more end game-y board like this is useful.
Sorry I realize this comes across as a little stern.
Is polycarbonate going to be an option?
The new renders look better, getting more excited for this now. I still think that the logo should appear somewhere on the top of this beautiful keyboard.
The aluminum F13 key will have the logo on it. I think it’s a good approach because it can be used to show off the logo / serve as an F13 keycap for sets that don’t include one, but it also offers the option to minimally/not brand the top of the keyboard for those that want an unbranded look.

I dunno. At this point I'd prefer Salvun with what he's putting out.I’m in favour of Salvun just because his instagram stories are so in depth, we’d get to see them being made :P

Anyone have an estimate for how much this is going for? Deciding between this and the 7V

Well the iron165 was 475USD so i wouldnt be surprised if this was around 650USD.

That green tho. Don't be toying with me just to match the keyset.
This looks really good! Definitely in for this keeb, there aren't enough TKLs these days. There's not enough of <7° angle TKLs these days.
That is what i thought until i saw Infinitum's price. IMHO 500-550 would be a good price for Iron180 but i wouldnt be surprised if its more.

I believe the 180 weighs less, so potentially around the same price hopefully. Even if it did weigh more, I couldn't see it going over $599.
This will be my second to last endgame, IRON175 would be true end game if its ever designed.
Any updates?

I already got GMK bleached just for this, hope the price won't be breaking my wallet

So, what is going on with this? I haven't seen any updates or anything about it.
Any updates?
We are currently working on fulfillment of Iron165. After this is complete we will be ordering prototypes of case and PCB of the Iron180. Quotes have been received with about 1 month leadtime on them. Once protos are received we will see if any changes need to be made, discuss with vendors on colors, quantity, pricing and best GB date.
I'm excited for this! That white one is gorgeous. Might try to find some blank white and black keycaps for this build.

You just missed GMK Bleached. You will probably be able to grab extras before this beast is out.

Looking forward to this. great looking tkl. hoping for more than 100 units for the US proxy

pretty sure its gonna be a raffle in super low quantities lol.
Was very fast measured in seconds or in minutes?
LOL some joker put up a iron165 on r/mm for $2000 how the hell did that board get that kinda of rep..can't imagine what a **** show this will be
Without sifting through a bunch of comments, anything on pricing yet?
So for pricing.... Keep in mind that a TKL is approx 50% more volume of material to machine (1.179M cubic mm for iron165 vs 1.780M cubic mm for iron180). Material is sold by kg so 50% more material costs. Machine time means 50% more machining. However, we made choices in the design like no through hole weight on the bottom (saves machining time and saves buying a separate brass weight to machine), no detailed engravings like the iron165 badge with a very tight radius. That all said, I would expect that pricing for the aluminum version to be similar (probably a bit more because of seamless case requiring 2x material and maching) to the keycult no1 rev1 all aluminum, and the pricing of the version with a solid brass bottom to be closer to the no2 rev1.
Pricing will be similar to a no1 for the aluminum and no2 for the brass.

Isn't that about the price range of the Hiney tkl?
can i dream of an unlimited GB?

You're always welcome to dream, just keep in mind that dreams hardly ever come true.
I really wish this board had a badge like the iron165.. Such a distinguished design feature that would really show off its smith+rune pedigree
agree - design now is really classy :thumb: - if you use a special F13 you have the brandingI really wish this board had a badge like the iron165.. Such a distinguished design feature that would really show off its smith+rune pedigree
Disagree. The current solution is much more elegant, imo. It still shows off the branding, but in a less intrusive manner that is more appropriate for a high-end product.
I love this board but the screws at the bottom are a dealbreaker. Any way you can hide them?

Kinda wish this had some big strips for feet instead of the tiny circle bumpons. Only possible complaint, since the board is gorgeous. Definitely in!This has been asked before, they said that the bumpons are more easily replaceable since you can buy them from any hardware store, whilst the strips have to be custom cut. And ultimately not last as long.

Very nice TKL design, will definitely be watching from here on out.
All the guys here with less than 5 posts are flippers :DEdit: how many boards are going to be available during the gb?
Stunning. Could there please be a hot-swap PCB version?
I (and I'm sure many others) can't justify spending a huge amount unless the PCB is hot-swap, because then we can't find the right switch for the board and we're stuck with the initial build. I saw what you wrote about the different layouts, but can't you just have one hot-swap PCB and one non-hot-swap PCB, where you sell maybe 100 hot-swap PCBs? Why is that not a possibility? The interest for this board is huge.
this gonna be my first custom TKL for sure!I wouldn't take the expensive for 1st.
this gonna be my first custom TKL for sure!
interested in the white version.
I really want this board but I know I probably won’t end up getting it on gb and I can’t pay like 4-5k for it aftermarket

interested in the white version.
You and probably 5000 other people have said the same thing...
Good luck, but I wouldn't keep your hopes too high.
Such a good looking board. Looking forward to see the color arrangement.
Are they thinking raffle? FCFS? Insiders only?
Quick Update:
Prototypes were ordered a few weeks ago with a 5-6 week lead time on them. We are hoping to have them around end of August. PCB will be ordered here within a few days so that might limit build streams but we will have photos of the boards themselves when protos arrive. This time we ordered one of every color option we are considering instead of just a single sample and ano chips.
Thanks
Luke
Interested, hopefully there are more color variations (not a fan of the dark green).Dark green is confirmed?
Would it be possible to run this as a raffle and not FCFS?you mean, unlimited ;D. Ok, just dreamin

Looks great! Especially the renders for Black Lotus since I'm a fan of Magic The Gathering.I was a fan of MTG, but then they got on board the Racist Agenda. Now I just have my commander deck's that I play with friends. But I will never purchase another MTG card again or anything MTG related.
Any chance of Alps compatability? I'm guessing no based in the custom plate, but no harm asking.

I believe alps compat. has been confirmed. Are you gonna go with the undampened creams? =)
Just got in the custom MKB scene and have been on the hunt for a TKL.
I understand the Iron 180 will probably be a FCFS. I'm torn between waiting for this board to go GB or join the Rama U80.
The rama u80 is a sure get as it's a unlimited GB.
Are there any reason(s) that this board may be better than the u80?

Man chill, he's not gatekeeping. It's genuinly annoying (imo) to have threads regularely bumped with immaterial posts of that sort. Stating your interest in an already accomplished IC half a year after the OP is unnecessary. That said I'm aware this post is also unnecessary. #wokebloke
I'm torn between waiting for this board to go GB or join the Rama U80.
Well, I would say grab both if possible, see what you prefer, and sell the "worst" one.
The U80 is easy to grab; the Iron180 might be tricky (FCFS accelerated by hype).
Personally prefer the U80 esthetics, but this is very subjective (coming from a guy, who doesn't like the keycult design as well ;)
Good luck with your choice!
But I hear all the good things about the Iron 165, so naturally quite curious. I do find the "stepped" look on the posterior part of the iron quite classy.

Watching for GB/ :thumb:
This is an insta-cop for me. I REALLY hope I can be one of the 200 for that day, lol. Demand seems high. I'm guessing this is FCFS and not raffle? You guys think this will sell out in minutes?
I know you are still deciding on colors, but are you considering anything dark blue?
Thank you for giving us a Canadian vendor! :DWho is the Canadian vendor? I don't see a Canadian vendor on the list (✷‿✷)
There was an update on discord, deskhero has been added for the Canadian market. Final color options also selected:Awesome news!
E-white
Graen Green
Graphite (we don’t have a prototype of this color)
2 bottom case option:
Anodized black aluminum
Clear coated sand blasted brass
How many units are allocated to Desk Hero?100 boards for deskhero according to discord
MechGroupBuys currently has this info listed
CannonKeys - 200 boards MyKeyboard.eu - 100 boards iLumkb - 300 boards
Is this correct? If so, will units be allocated to desk hero from other vendors or will they be additional units on top of those numbers provided?
Will this be alps compatible? I am itching to make a board in this with skcm browns.
is the PCB Alps compatible or need a different PCB? and will the plate files be released afterwards to make the Alps plate?
If I'm not mistaken this is my first post on geekhack, and I'm using it to express how excited I am for this group buy.Prototype pictures are live on the S+R discord! Check the pins in the #iron180 channel.
These renders look absolutely gorgeous and I can't wait to see those prototype pics :D
Looks great! So for a logo and f13, our idea is to include an artisan anodized and matched to the color of the top case for a couple reasons.
IMO, a logo engraving above the arrow keys generally looks good on TKLs. I think the artisan idea is neat, but I joined the aeboards Aegis GB and they did a similar thing with a custom Rama cap. I love the board, but have literally never seen a picture with someone using the keycap. Just my two cents.

Pls do consider putting a logo on top of the arrow keys, make it stand out and be proud of your brand, I would love to see some impressions on the keyboard looking at it from the top base. As of the current design, it's really hard to differentiate Iron 180 from so many other TKL without looking at the bottom case.
For me it is the exact opposite, this clean looks is great. Too many keyboards with badly designed branding killing the otherwise good look. Having it on the bottom is nice, as there is more space to be more creative. Or in this case, have some elegant logo interpretation.Looks great! So for a logo and f13, our idea is to include an artisan anodized and matched to the color of the top case for a couple reasons.

How can this support ISO layout when the plate doesn't allow the switches to be placed where they need to be?The plate file will be released. You make your own plate.

Only brass plate ? :O why no alu or carbon fiber :( Plate looks so nice, but material could be differentYou will have plate files anyway so you can have any plate cut for you using your favourite material :)
Very nice :thumb:Usually it'll be on the front page. Join the discord as well for live updates.
will the gb URL be announced here or are they seamless to find on the websites on the day?
I didn't get a clear answer on the Discord channels I asked on (that I could spot during intermittent monitoring). So I'll ask here as well.I got helped, thanks very much!
I see all the vendors are region-locked for the first few minutes, though people expressed doubt as to whether CannonKeys will really be region-locked. (I wouldn't mind buying from them again, in fact, I'd prefer it.)
Is there one of the vendors that will cover South Africa? Normally the European offices with cover Africa, as part of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), so I think that would be mykeyboard.eu in this case.
Is there anybody that knows?
