I had been planning to film when the defence forces shoot a cannon salute for a royal birthday. In July, I missed it because the camera was off when I thought that it was on. Next time was supposed to be today but the weather reports last night told that there was going to be heavy rain and thunder in the middle of the day, so regrettably I had stayed at home instead of doing a second try because I thought it would be a disaster.
But oh, no. We got sun instead. And I stayed home, doing nothing. Next opportunity: July next year. YAY!
The story of my life: opportunities missed because of stupid reasons ...

What's bothering me at the moment is my inability to manage my time better. I feel like each day is slowly wasting away, and I am not doing enough every day to make sure that I am successful.

For years, from about 1990 until a few years ago, I was pleased and gratified that weather reports seemed to be getting progressively and dramatically better and more accurate and detailed.

In recent years, unfortunately, I am regularly disappointed that they seem to be getting farther and farther off-target. Clearly, in my opinion, the destabilized circumpolar vortex has made weather patterns in the northern hemisphere more random and unpredictable.

Holy ****, at least you know...

A. Your manager values your contribution to the company.
B. Your manager cannot be arsed hiring a new person.
C. Your manager was underpaying you for your role.

B) and C)
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

When girls walk around a store in a bra and skintight shorts so small their **** lips are hanging out, how the **** are guys not supposed to look at that? Just act like the slutty stripper on her lunchbreak doesn't have her areolas and vulva on full-display? How cucked are modern men that it's somehow not ok to take a long full look at that **** in public? I'm pretty sure she's dressed like that for a reason.

anyway she gave me her name and invited me to come see her dance tonight but it's downtown, it's Monday, and I'm tired  :(

Another power outage caused local IP roulette; last summer wasn't nearly this bad.  Re-synced everything and all is well again for now.  I guess I should either move closer to one the colleges or grab multiple USPs.  Heck.

edit - Also, I can't figure out how Rowdy or Steven made it into the cast of Scrubs.  Guess I need to finally watch those behind the scenes extras

We rarely have power outages, but when we do it lasts for about 3-6 hours.

You're probably right and even something as crap as GMK red on orange would probably sell now, but that's debatably a good thing.

What bothered me is I came back and 10 hours of posts fitted on spy which says the site's the deadest it's ever been, plus every post is to do with buying stuff which suggests there's no community left.  From my lurking throughout the day this impression didn't change - there's nothing to come back to.

I must confess, I mainly limit my usage here to just the IC and GB forums.  Even after having been proactive in this hobby for about a year and a half, it can still feel a bit overwhelming so I keep my focus narrowed.
It also doesn’t help that my time outside of work is limited, so I generally don’t have much casual browsing time like I used to 10-15 years ago.

That being said, I’ve always had the intention to branch out more here should I find the opportunity to do so.

I can’t speak for others, but that’s my own situation for what it’s worth.

It's not great.  I mean, the increased availability of GBs and the general growth of the community as a whole are great.  But it means more splintered userbases, and for whatever reason most people have taken to Slack/Discord for the casual day-to-day conversations that used to take place here.  I just can't keep up with that anymore, so I'm doing my best to keep the forum side of things alive.  :))

Hence: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=90505.msg2455952#msg2455952.

same dude. we're just ancient ****in fossils and this is the museum.
I love Elzy

Even as a newcomer, I feel this. The discords seem too fast paced for the amount of time/energy I have to put into them, and the amount of new products/services etc seems like its constantly growing.
I prefer r/mk for the engagement aspect since that's how came to find this hobby, but seems I missed out on what may have been the "good ole days" on geekhack. I lurked fora little while before considering making an account and even then, I only really view the IC and GB threads, but having seen this thread on the Spy list, it piqued my interest in the other areas of the forum. Guess I should poke around a bit!

Anyway, thanks for doing your part to keep it alive :) (I'm trying to practice some gratitude, so there you go hahaha)

Younger peeps don't seem to have the patience for async communication no more.  They're too much about insta-grat and Live

The question is, where does "younger peeps" start in the age spectrum  :))
I just turned 29, and have used Discord previously, but only in very small numbers, like less than 50 where it was manageable.
Having been in Discords with thousands, I just couldn't feel comfortable, it was chaos. Never felt like I belonged.

But I totally agree with your point, and see it in my life all the time in ways big and small.
