[IC] Frost DSA - Bring the cold to your board!
« on: Sat, 15 October 2016, 13:25:35 »
MAKE IT HAPPEN HERE
https://www.massdrop.com/vote/-Product-Frost-DSA-bring-the-cold-to-your-board/result

Since winter is around the corner I decided bring the cold right to your keyboards with DSA Frost. I posted this on Reddit and heard the worst news someone can hear when they just put a lot of work into something: it already sort of exists. As you can see, my keycaps are similar in color to a keycap set called Raindrop. Although there are still quite a lot of differences (DSA, centred legends, different novelties,...). Apparently there is an incredibly small amount of DSA Raindrop sets out there though.

Even though that was frustrating, all the feedback about the caps themselves was very positive. This brings me here: would you be interested in purchasing this set?

To do:

-Design more novelties

-Add French, German,... ISO layout

-Add Planck kit

-Add MiniVan kit

-Add ErgoDox kit

-Add DVORAK kit

-Check 40's kit

I'd buy it as long as you added 40% (MiniVan) support. Love the colors.

I'll add that! Don't know if it will ever hit an order quantity for the prices to be ok though.

I would likely order one either way. Love the colors. It just means I'll also need to pick up another board.

I updated the main picture to include Planck, Ergodox, MiniVan,... layouts. I don't have any experience with 40% keyboards so I had a look at how some other key sets were solving this. I actually used the 40's kit from SA Godspeed as a template, although there are some things I can't figure out. Godspeed uses a lot of "alternate words" to describe functions (like "Transmit", "Houston",...). Some of these I could figure out, but some I couldn't and I left them blank. I was wondering if anyone could help me with this?  :)

Which board uses that? I would think the Godspeed kit would be complete (since there are no 1u modifiers in there) haha

Sure, but they miss "meta" and "hyper" (but have "alt", which has a significant lower geekicity to it... ;).

Altough I highly doubt anyone will sue me for it, I don't know if I could make a novelty like that legally.

I'd be in for the base + numpad + 40s.

Quite simple but I like it!

I want Planck kit including alpha keys cause TKL kit has too many useless keys for Planck.

I'm considering making separate alpha and mod kits which should solve your issue.

Thank you! Do you think it's a problem that you get some "useless keys" for your 40% board since you're forced to buy a whole TKL kit?

I'm planning on sticking it on my VE.A, so I need the entire TKL + numpad kit anyway.
The way I see it I have some keys left over for my Planck.
If you were to split the base into 2 kits - alphas + mods it would help though.
Then I could get a second alpha to fill out My Planck and optimize use of the keys.

For the DVORAK kit, would you consider adding the Colemack backspace key to replace capslock?  Or a blank :)

Sadly I don't think that a DVORAK kit will be added since it will just never reach MOQ... That would just create a huge mess since I would not only have to refund the DVORAK kit to the people that bought them but probably also the base kits which means that the price of those might go up again which would make for one huge mess.

Do you need a special kit for Dvorak/Colemak? As it's DSA, can't you just rearrange the keys as needed?

I believe the issue is the homing keys being different in Colemak and Dvorak.

Of course I totally forgot about that! like PatchSalts suggested it will need a couple more homing keys but that should be 2 for DVORAK + 2 for COLEMAK + the backspace which makes for juist 5 keys so that should be doable :D

Right, but a homing keys pack is much fewer keys. I guess that should mean a lower price and MOQ perhaps?

Awesome, looks great :)

Would it be greedy to ask for a second shift in the Planck set?  :D I have both a left and right shift on R3.

ABS, since Signature Plastics can't double shot PBT or dye sub keys with a lighter legen than the key color.
