Title: [IC] JTK Sora - Kitting changes and New Renders | GB date April 6th

About the set

JTK Sora is a set based off the colors of the sky, featuring a blue reminiscent of the sky for the alphas,
paired with an alternate sunset color for those who prefer the sunset instead.

The set is complimented with white modifiers being similar to the clouds we often see along with the sky,
along with a bronze-gold color representing the sun.

More context behind the set

My inspiration for this set came from staying mostly at home the past year because of COVID and
starting to miss the stuff I was able to do before outside under the sky.

Explanation behind the name:
The the name came from a Japanese friend of mine, Homiezoned who when I asked for help with naming it, named it Sora
because it meant "sky" in Japanese. I found it interesting because in Kanji, the same "sky" (空) character can also
mean "air or empty" in Chinese Hanzi and when combined with the character (天) in Chinese, it also means sky (天空).

Thank you everyone for all the support, set has finally entered GB!

More

Another important update regarding the set, JTK has just told us that the extra tab+backspace is
not possible for the Sunset alphas because of the way their molds are set up. We've unfortunately had
to modify the Sunset alphas kitting and remove the tab+backspace. Hopefully these are the final changes
needed.

On the bright side, we now have extra B in both base and the Sunset alphas, instead of spacebar kits.
JTK also has a new mold for the HHKB backspace, so we no longer have to use the 'xbox' one and
can use standard icon.

Other than that, we're still waiting on the pricing/moq from JTK. Bachoo has also updated kit renders
to reflect the changes.

3/10/2021 update:
Hi everyone, another update here!

Regarding group buy pricing and date- we're still waiting to hear back from JTK.
However, I'm excited to show you all some deskmats my friend bubbletea has been working on
the past few months. I know a lot of people were unhappy with the original deskmats, so hopefully
everyone will be able to enjoy a deskmat for the set, with these amazing additional two.

Zion Studios is also now a vendor for our Filipino friends, along with SwagKeys for our Korean friends.

2/17/2021 update:
- Vendors announced
- Updated kitting renders
- New board renders
- Spacebars separated

1/23/2021 update: Looking at the feedback, people wanted more region-neutral ISO but unfortunately JTK do not have the molds.
The current ISO support will likely remain the same. JTK has also said that the planned tripleshot novelties are possible!
Kitting splitting into modular alphas and modifiers are still heavily being considered at the moment (if JTK is willing).

12/27/2020 update:
My friend dany has helped done some new renders for the set- including one for the sunset kit (which is definitely lacking renders).
More renders will be on the way after the holidays.
Reading the current feedback so far, I know some people are interested in sub-legends but I want to leave it without sub-legends for this set
especially since there are already two different alphas. I am also heavily considering switching from the
current UK-ISO support to more region-neutral ISO instead.

I apologize to everyone who was offended by the confusing wording about the explanation before for the inspiration for the set and the name.
The post has been updated with new wording, which is hopefully more clear and explains better.

WS2 was chosen over WS1 for the white because I felt WS2 was more similar to clouds than WS1, since WS1 has a bit of a cream tone to it.

As for why the blue chosen was 278c, originally I wanted something more like 2717c since the color reminded me of the sky the most but the contrast would be way too low for white legends.
278c also reminded of the sky but it was a bit deeper than 2717, making the contrast better with WS2.

The color 283c was also in consideration but GMK Oni already uses that color along with the same WS2 legends.

I agree, the gold-ish modifiers definitely look similar to each other but I believe the set is different enough overall and has a different theme.
The reason why a "gold" color was chosen to represent the "sun" in the modifier legends is because the color known as "Sunray" is also similar to gold imo.

I dont know if sublegend will fit the theme, but I personally would like to see alternative alpha kit with any sublegend. Katakana sublegend seems cool with this set. But I dont know if JTK offer Katakana sublegend.

Also, seeing open ICs of JTK with no firm GB date, do you consider to change to PBT?

I know it seems nitpicky but the way you word it is misleading.

First, "Kanji" is literally adopted logographic Chinese characters. "Kanji" is just the Japanese way of reading "Hanzi," even the characters are the same (漢字). It is natural they mean the same in both languages.

Second, (天空) means the same in Japanese and Chinese. However in Japanese, (天空) is generally reserved as a poetic phrase which explicitly refers to the sky. It is abbreviated to the singular character of sora, which strongly suggest that it is "sky," though it can be air or empty, depending on context (aside from kanji in conjunction). On the other hand in Chinese, (天空) strictly refers to the sky, and the singular character of (空) would refer to air or empty, but not the sky.

This is further cemented with Japanese using (空) for describing weather (how the sky is), while Chinese uses (天) for weather (alongside the shared meaning between the two languages, such as "heaven," "referring to something above," aside from Japanese using [日] in place of [天] when describing days, like "today" or "yesterday."). (天) can mean sky in Japanese as well, though it is rarely used out of again, poetic usage. Disclaimer that there are always exceptions and less commonly used phrases that can be used but not adequate. (Japanese usually has the unique phrases as it is a language built on Chinese.) This is also the tip of the iceberg, for Japanese is a poetic language with many, many specific expressions.

would be great if you could have the modifiers and the alphas separately instead of one base kit, so i could get a whole sunset colours kit, I don't have the $ to get a whole base kit plus alphas when i'm not gonna use the blue alphas at all!

also if you were able to get a UK vendor that would be awesome, buying through the EU has become a lot more tricky with Brexit!

yeah, looking at the feedback so far, a lot of people want either one or the other! the modifier and alphas being separated into two is currently heavily considered.
and yep for sure, we have a UK vendor planned for this set at the moment in additional to an EU vendor.

really, really like this. might be because powder blue + peach pink + yellow is  my favorite color combo (so I'd better get it through my skull that they won't all be together when I only buy one kit) but I really like the novelties, too.

the only two things I could ask of this kit that would make me love it more would be kobe alphas and 40's compatability, but you could argue that would be my input about most anything with a theme of Japanese origin haha (just pls don't make the base kit hiragana sub, it looks great as is).

Hi everyone, there haven’t been any updates in a while so this is a rather big one this time.
I’m happy to announce that we’ve found vendors for most of the regions!

In addition, I also have updated kitting and some more board renders in different lighting from Bachoo.
Compared with my physical color swatches, the new lighting makes the colors appear similar to that when under bright direct natural sunlight.

I’ve also received some help from the amazing Plop on how to format the post. Since the colors (the blue in particular) has shifted a bit in the new lighting,
Plop has also taken some better pictures of the colors for me than I can personally with my smartphone camera. Lots of thanks to Plop!

As for the kitting, after talking to JTK they didn’t seem that willing to do modular kitting with separated modifiers and alphas.
The options were to either stay with current kitting or for two base kits. Unfortunately, current kits are likely to remain the same since I’m not confident
in being able to run two separate base kits with this being my first set. JTK also does not have molds for non sub-legend numpad
so renders have been updated to reflect that, along with the HHKB backspace.

For more kitting changes, after reading the IC data, it seemed that people prefer separate spacebars more, so that has been changed from one big kit to 3 separate kits.

hi everyone, recently some friends over at zFrontier have told me they thought the board renders were a bit bright. i've gone and updated the post with some in a render lighting similar to
shaded indoors natural lighting vs the ones done by bachoo similar to direct natural light

That would be the best option for everyone but unfortunately, with the much higher MOQ of previous run JTK sets (compared to GMK),
I can't commit to that with this being my first set (since two base kits would double MOQ). However with the higher MOQ of JTK,
that does comes with a lower cost to everyone, so the separate alpha should be much more affordable compared to separate alphas of GMK.

One of my vendors has submitted the set for quotes from JTK, so we'll be able to see how much the kits should be expected to cost for everyone soon!

With that said, I will definitely do this option though for future runs of the set if there's enough interest for another run in the future.

Hi everyone, another update here!

Regarding group buy pricing and date- we're still waiting to hear back from JTK.
However, I'm excited to show you all some deskmats my friend bubbletea has been working on
the past few months. I know a lot of people were unhappy with the original deskmats, so hopefully
everyone will be able to enjoy a deskmat for the set, with these amazing additional two.

Zion Studios is also now a vendor- for our Filipino friends!

Just wondering if it would be possible for you to do a render with the black Fuji65? I'm not quite sure how I feel about pastel colors on a black board so I would really appreciate it if you could. 🙏

I agree, there could definitely be more novelties, and there was originally a cloud novelty as well. But there currently isn't one because I wanted the focus
to be on tripleshot novelties. Although we're currently waiting on JTK for quotes, I reckon it might be a bit expensive compared to regular JTK novelties pricing,
so I didn't want to add too much novelties to add to the cost even more.

That makes sense. Although I wouldn't mind higher priced novelties if the designs are nice, I can see it being a point of concern for other people.

Yeah, unfortunately the colors for the deskmat are pretty set (since they were made with the colors of the theme in mind). Sorry about that!

I agree, off center designs are usually best since the keeb doesn't cover the whole thing. We did keep this in mind- so there are pattern designs surrounding
the main piece, so even with a keeb covering it, there would still be a 'design' on the deskmat- if that makes sense. With that said, we've already sent the
current 4 designs for prototyping but I'll try to see what I can do for a off-center design (pattern) one. Though no guarantees, since it might not look as good
while off-centered.

I can't say for certain at this point in time (since most keycap manufacturers are delayed) but we are expecting Q2 2022

I will be locking this thread since I will instead be posting a GB thread, thank you everyone who has shown interest and supported the set.
