Why are the vendors saying no? Are they concerned about this set not hitting MOQ? Or are we getting political now? X)
Don't think so. They're afraid it won't hit the MOQ, no more. Otherwise it rather silly. Cyrillic characters did not invade Ukraine. It's just keycaps. It's like Koen Roemers justifying Perestroika will not be remade : he can argue a lot about what
his intention was while designing the set but 1) what about those who precisely struggle for the freedom in Russia in Ukraine and pay with their lives for it ? Why can't it serve them and us as a symbolism that "
would empower [its] users with the possibility of progression and unleash new veins of thought". "
Reform and openness" is needed more than ever never and remaking the set made again
could be a remider of that.
As you can see, it's just a matter of interpretation which leads to 2) the set itself has it's own life within the community and not bound by any of the above mentioned : it's just a highly appreciated (+hyped?) set of keycaps, no more. Do you really think most of users think of the symbiolism of Perestroika set ? Come on, basically it's : "USSR = Red = Perestroika", at best.
Should vendors stop selling GMK Taiga because Taiga is a part of Russia? Should GMK Yuri be banished because there's a photo of Yuri Gagarin, USSR cosmonaut, on the box ? GMK WoB Red Cyrillic because it has a Saint Basil's Cathedral (based in Moscow) dome as a special keycap ? Let's just condemn all cyrillic sets to non-existence...
Makes no sense to you ? Make none to me either. Anyway, no Perestroika, ok, we'll be just fine BUT please let's depoliticize keycaps and skip finding some easy excuses for gatekeeping the highly sought cyrillic sets or not making new ones.
