1990 Camry
  • Radiator patched with duct tape, needs to be filled before every trip. Speed must be kept below 65 MPH.
  • Electrical problem - 50 Amp switch in series with battery, needs to be turned off after every trip.
  • No passenger air bag. Hey, my son can ride in front!
  • 29 MPG
  • Runs.
I trolled Geekhack and all I got was an eponymous SPOS.

My parents have a 98 buick LeSabre with no first gear. Why no airbags in 95?

@ ricercar
A friend of mine just sold a 91 Camry. Great cars.

I have a 2007 Ford Edge SEL AWD.  This isn't mine, but I have the same color and trim package (leather, nav, vista roof, 20" rims, etc.).  Mine is quite a bit dirtier right now.

I'm behind the wheel of a 2000 Volkswagen Passat and apparently I got my VW just in time before they became lemons (at least the US models). I hear that the quality level of VW's have returned, but a friend of mine got the same car a year later and his car's always going in the shop for one thing or another. Mine's been a model citizen.

It's a great car. I care only about it getting me somewhere, but it's a good ride and I still get a huge kick out of the dark blue and red neon colored dashboard lights. No leather seats for me though. I can't stand the feel or the temperature qualities of leather. There's a moonroof and a rubber ducky with blinking LED lights on the dash.

(Not mine, but it looks virtually the same)

This is not a picture of mine. Just some random picture of the exact same model and configuration (except for the rims, I got slightly different ones).

My first own car. Had to share a Opel Corsa 1.0 (Series B) before with my sister.

2009 RTL Honda Ridgline - Needed something that will fit the whole family but still let me haul stuff in the back and a camper. Still have a few upgrades to do to it.
1) Need to add a Backflip HD Tonneau cover
2) Put a bike rack on top of the Tonneau cover that way I can pull the camper and put the bikes over the bed and still have room under the cover for camping gear. For now the bikes go in the bed just fine.

Being 15, I don't have a car yet, but I am looking into getting the 1984 Chevy El Camino that is for sale just down the street from my house. The guy is asking for $1500, but can probaly get it for 1 grand. It will need some work, but it will be great for my first car.

I missed out on a '71 (IIRC) El Camino with a 450 Turbo and a Corvette transmission.  It had a fresh paintjob, new Crager rims, and a new interior; it just needed some trim work.  He was selling it for $1700.  I should have bought it.

El Caminos don't look like much, but they're beasts.

I drive a piece of ****, because driving is hell where I live and subsequently I don't care about cars except as a tool to get me from A to B. Like there would be no use buying a quality keyboard if you were restricted to 30wpm. Also I live downtown, with narrow streets and parking spaces and no own parking space. Any car will get scratched. For real travel I rent something nice.
Now I really want to see it.

I had one of those. Bought it new in '86, it finally died on me in 2004 with >300,000 miles on it.

After that I ended up getting a 2002 Jetta but I seriously doubt it'll last me anywhere close to 18 years.

if you get more keyboards in transit it'll blow up to a full blown Symphony!

Not likely to happen soon. This was post-unemployment binge spending. When these keyboards all arrive, the wife will probably look at the checkbook and realize how much I've spent, and make me put them under the Christmas tree. Plus I'm starting to get frugal conservativism again ... easy now that I have new toys to distract me. Bwah ha ha!

I was going for some play on words humor and ended up with some epic fail.

The problem is "reeche-care" sounds nothing like "ryser-car."

Fail not. I just have this chip on my shoulder about Rice-boys and cars that I never expected when I read Godel Escher Bach in the late 70s. I like recursion in art, programming, and music, and the "researcher" etymology was a fit, too.
I trolled Geekhack and all I got was an eponymous SPOS.

Do 944s have the engine in back? I haven't seen one in a while.

Nah, they're front. And they're a lot less 'Audi' than the 924; the 924 had an Audi-designed engine while the 944 had a Porsche-designed engine (basically half the 928 engine).

Speaking of which: I also have a badly beaten 928 tucked into one corner of the garage. I got it for a song, but it needs some TLC...

My Uncle-in-law calls his Porsche 928 the "Six Million dollar car". Apparently he had some money back in the 70s-80s and spent half on Microsoft stock and half on the 928. He's a rich man, but apparently could have been richer.

2006 NC MX-5, 3rd Generation Limited Edition.

Not the fastest car in a straight line, but it's RWD, light and very fun in the corners. Love it to bits.

I also have a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Coupe.

I prefer my "cars" with 2 and 3 wheels...

I want to build something along the lines of "Jagged Edge" (Twin Turbo V12 Bike), but with 3 wheels and, although I would settle for a Jaguar V12, I would prefer a BMW one, or, if miracles happened and money just fell out of the sky, an Aston Martin one...

In the real world however, I currently drive or ride... nothing at all... I'm letting my insurance people settle down after laughing at me trying to insure a Twin Turbo V8 Trike (800+ at the rear wheels on fairly low boost, and 3 driving bans tend to hurt your premiums somewhat). I think I might just wait for a bit before I buy anything worth mentioning.

Dang that is one clean Maverick.  My first car was a 67 Merc Cougar that my grandfather and I spend 2 years building out of 2 cars, I miss working on those old engines.

2009 Kia Spectra. It's probably going to last well over a decade. Payed cash up front, 5 grand, fact. rebate + 2500 for my POS clunker = pretty much free car.
