8/25/2019: Update Vendor and pricing. Final kits were posted in the thread. GMK FIRST LOVE WILL LAUNCH ON SEPTEMBER 1ST!!!!!. Since its a remembrance of a memory of mine, there will only be one single round for good. Please help me making it possible. Both Upas and I did our best to make pricing the most affordable to everyone starting at $129.99 per base kit for 250 MOQ! 6/28/2019: Update deskmat and banderole box art (front and back).

6/26/2019: The following updates were made. Huge thanks to biip for all the suggestions on kit revision.

• Revise novelties kit. Adding additional 1u R1 novelties and text novelties. Duplicate thorns novelties to 1.25U for consistency.
• Change text + icon mods to icon mods + text mods bottom row. Update renders.
• Change 1U R4 "Super" to "Code". I think "Code" just looks nice and more balance given the small footprint of the 1U key.
• Changing "Num Lock" to "Num" for 1 line consistency with icon mods.
• Adding 1U R1 Fn and 1U R1 Code to base kit. This should cover split backspace TKL user and F13 key for TGR-Jane v2 CE.
• Adding extra B to base kit. This should cover TGR-Alice user.
• Revise on colors. I've decided to not go with the stock black CR from GMK and used a custom Pantone color instead. The stock CR is just too black to my liking and does not give off that muted effect that I was hoping to achieve. Physical color swatches already ordered. Update rendered color swatches. 
• Update on artisan collaboration. I am happy to announce that AlphaKeycaps and Rama will be collaborating on this project.
• Update on target launch date and vendor. The set will launch on September at Canonkeys.com. Other proxy still TBD.

About

The inspiration of this set was from, well, my first love. I've known her since we were five, went to the same school and grew up together. We were crazy about each other at one point during high school, so we started dating. Senior year, college came around the corner and it just did not work out. I remember it was bittersweet, fun and heartbroken at the same time. So much time, so many memories and so many relationships have passed, but I still think of her from time to time. Her favorite color has always been purple, and for so long despite my original indifference to that color, it has become a part of me now. I hope this set will remind you of all the purest feelings and emotions you've ever had in your life! And yes, that include those nights getting wasted with your best buddy in the back of an old bar that smells like wet clothing with a big bottle of scotch trying to get over that one person you fall madly in love with!


Design

The main color theme of the set will be dark purple on black, with a tint of lilac purple. The set will use custom color on all three colors. The novelties pack was designed by our man biip. The aesthestic of his iconic approach is just so clean and sharp. The man is such a blessing to our community!

Also if you don't switch to icon mods, I'd suggest using sub legends on the numpad. Clean numpad looks best with icon mods, and a bit off if you use text + icons.

UPDATE: Updated poll. Please vote for your preferred color for the alphas. I am torn between these two. The top is a custom dark gray, and the bottom is stock CR black. I do prefer the top a bit more the more I look at it.

EDIT: The custom dark gray is not as "gray" as the gray from Oblivion, if that makes sense. The color is still black essentially, but just a different hue. I tried to do a minor tweak to make it less "black" and thus has better contrast against the mods as compared to stock CR.

- Changing the R2 Backspace legend to the <---- arrow, like on GMK Taro
- Adding 00 1u key for the numpad section for when 0 key is split.
- Consider a uniform F-row color -- purple with lilac legends (see GMK Space Cadet, GMK Taro, GMK Hydro)
- Consider using R5 bottom row for the set, instead of R4. [112345]

- Spacebar kit should have alpha-colored 6u spacebars -- perhaps consider replacing the accent colored ones for these so that the kit isn't too big.
- Consider adding alpha-colored 2x 1.00uC to the spacebar/keys kit.
- Consider taking 1.5u keys off from spacebar/keys kit as it is much less likely to be used.

2) I might keep it the way it looks for now. I am not thoroughly a big fan of the R2 backspace key from Taro.
3) I don't think 00 is much needed.

The vote seems to be pretty even between stock CR black and custom black alphas, with a slight edger over to custom black alphas. Please let me know your input guys, as this is probably the most important turning point of the set. Kit tweaking/coverage issue is minor compared to this.

I think that will be fabulous. Slightly crazy thought too, but that would allow people to mix and match from Red Sam mods and this - and the gold-ish legends on the Red Sam mods might work wonderfully well with the purple legends here. Mmmm.

I don't feel the vibe of icon mods on this set to be honest. This set supposed to have a classic vibe, so I think icon+text mods would be best.

Edit: I also would like to point out that the rule of thumb for icon mods is that they only work well against highly contrast alphas/mods set (like beige/carbon gray on Bone, sky blue/dark navy on Mizu, etc.). Dark purple and black does not have that strong of a contrast to throw in icon mods, if that makes sense.

I myself am not sure if its truly wrong to take someones idea and tweak it, but it seems at least rude considering it was going to gb after all, and you clearly knew this. In my mind, it is one thing to have slightly similar colors but a different thing to base your set on someone else's, esp on that is currently in the works.

I honestly haven't been around in this community to really know what is considered right and wrong here, but this rubs me the wrong way. If you did talk to the Black Lotus GB runner and he gave you his blessing, please disregard everything. And again, I'm not sure how I feel entirely, or how much it matters, but the fact that I'm at all unsure I figured meant I should share and ask for clarification or answers.

Anyways, let the designer speak if he has a problem with the set instead of babyraging for two paragraphs and then putting in a disclaimer at the end about disregarding the post. Get your facts straight and then point fingers to a regular old timer of this community like otani.

If you had read through the album you'd see i included stuff from there (the black lotus thread) as well. I also tried to include where he said he attempted to contact him about doing so. I wanted to make sure as much context was there as possible. Furthermore, I put the disclaimer at the beginning. Its really my only issue/ the only thing that makes me a little uneasy, is him having not contacted the og gb runner. And I even said idk if hes even doing anything wrong, very much just looking for reassurance or clarification. Which I'm not really getting here.

I think I will go with the custom black. Stock CR is too much in your face. I think I should have worded it differently to make people less confusing. Its not dark gray like Oblivion. Its a custom black same as the black from Red Samurai.

It seems at the very least extraordinarily rude to do this, assuming you still haven't talked to the original gb runner. I myself am not sure if its truly wrong to take someones idea and tweak it, but it seems at least rude considering it was going to gb after all, and you clearly knew this. In my mind, it is one thing to have slightly similar colors but a different thing to base your set on someone else's, esp on that is currently in the works.

I honestly haven't been around in this community to really know what is considered right and wrong here, but this rubs me the wrong way. If you did talk to the Black Lotus GB runner and he gave you his blessing, please disregard everything. And again, I'm not sure how I feel entirely, or how much it matters, but the fact that I'm at all unsure I figured meant I should share and ask for clarification or answers.

Hey everyone,

I think i was being summoned to comment here as my post has been quoted by several people.

Here are my thoughts:

As per the final renders, this came out very different from gmk black lotus.

The purple is much more on the blue side compared to the purple used on black lotus thats leaning towards red.


Anyways, I do not own a colorway or color combination so there is no foul play here. I do appreciate that someone has been inspired with my original design to make a version that would better suit their taste.

I am still a fan of this set, though i do not see any deep connection with the theme towards the colorway. Regardless i would try to get my hands on the base kit coz im a purple weeb.

Hope both keysets would be successful and that would only be possible with the support of this community.

I like the standard mods, similar to all the sets on o.co. So many sets are doing Icon mods, I like the variety.

That was definitely the hardest decision I had to make. At the end of the day, I think icon mods just go nicer with the icon novelties while not making anything to look out of place. I'm trying to keep the kit sizing as small as possible, so I'm afraid there will be no separate mod kits. My apologies. I know this will be the toughest decision I had to make at that moment when I decided to pull it off. I wish there was something else I could've done to please everyone, but I've looked at all the possibility and couldn't think of any that would help me to keep the sizing of the set (and eventually cost) down while still pleasing everyone. I personally think all the changes I've made will benefit the majority of the people who were interested in the set given the circumstance, and I take full responsibility for it. Really sorry man. I really am.

I agree with the choice of using icon mods, it is really hard to satisfy everyone's taste and the keep the kits simple and have a reasonable price. The novelties are like the best thing about this set, it would be such a shame to not use them if they don't match with text mods as nicely. Well done brother on such an amazing set

Really sorry, but I'm afraid not. I think the size of the drop is just too small to offer support to all layouts. That was a hard decision too, but as a responsible designer I just don't want to force my vendors to buyout all the extra kits to meet MOQ that would probably still not going to move post groupbuy. What can I say? He saw the light and converted, I have faith that you one day will have your soul salvaged and see the light as well.

In all seriousness, I am happy that you revised your initial decision Otani - I feel like this set really benefits from the Icon mod change. It was going to be a great set regardless, but this really upped the ante and projects a whole new vision. You can count on me when this comes around to GB, it will be one of my personal greats!

Just understand that you can never please everyone. A decision will always make some people happy, while others will be deterred (or act that way, then come around regardless). Just do what you think is right for the set and have faith in yourself - you have a good eye for design as obviously shown with gmk hatsukoi!

Agree with this.  Love theme seemed more closely aligned with the classic vibe.  Icon mods also puts this closer to Black Lotus which is a minus.  I was thinking this and that, but now I'm thinking this or that.

As the kit stands now, you've got neither full UK ISO support nor full US ISO support, but are instead falling "in the middle of the pond", producing something called "Atlantis ISO". To fix this in the base kit, you have two (ok, three) options:

1) Complete the US ISO support. To do this, replace the R3 #~ key with an R3 \| key instead. The R4 \| key has to remain.

2) Complete the UK ISO support. To do this, do not remove anything, add the three missing keys in R1: `¬, 2" and 3£, and add the missing key in R3: '@.

3) Offer full UK+US ISO support. To do this, do not remove anything, add the three missing keys in R1: `¬, 2" and 3£, and add the two missing keys in R3: '@ and \|.

What do you ISO people want

Something that cannot be atained easily: decent compatability without killing the wallet.

It's an impossibility at GMK price points as int kits can get pretty big (and expensive) quickly. For myself, I have learned to live without correct legends for the most part

Edit: I fully understand that Int kits on 95% of sets are not feasible even for the biggest market(NorDeUk) let alone niche localizations like mine

For me either ISO UK or US will suffice, tho ansi is fine to type on, just not as aesthetic for me. GLWB

In brighter lighting, it will look more like the dark grey. But in darker lighting, it can look darker.

The color Otani picked is the same as red samurai, so if you're familiar with that set, that's how it will look.

Pretty much what Upas said. I will post some pics of the actual color code soon. Probably some minor tweaks to the RAL code to fit into what I think is best for the set. Sorry I have a lot of research deadlines and proposals lining up at work that I haven't been able to keep up to date with responses. Will try to do so this weekend before my flight. We've ordered color samples from GMK, although I would imagine it is going to take a few tries until I'm satisfied (especially with the blue purple mods). Stuffs are still being worked on behind the scene. Will post final render of First Love Keypora soon. It looks lovely!

Not sure whether this is the best place to ask, but the renders for First Live on the Chimera match Chimeras accent pretty well, but it seems more on the pale side when compared to the other first love renders. Would you say that render is more or less accurate than the others? And if UPA's sees this, any thoughts on whether the lilac Chimera will be closer to the Chimera render or the other first love renders? Trying to figure out how well they will match essentially.

Upas' a bit to pale. The dark gray I have in mind is a little bit lighter. Hopefully I'll get to see the actual color sample from GMK next week. Will report back what I think.

GB post pending for approval. First 24-hours clocks in about close to 100 base kits ordered without any extra from vendors (Missing some from EU and all of China, so actual numbers might be a lot more).
