Cherry Switch Tester Holiday Tour 2011!
« on: Sun, 13 November 2011, 12:33:35 »
STATUS: ROUND 1 FINISHED
hashbaz's numpad: @hashbaz
litster's numpad: @litster

DESCRIPTION

By chance I got my hands on a Goldtouch 22-key numpad a while back for a really good price, and I decided to turn it into a switch tester:

[ Attachment Invalid Or Does Not Exist ] 31820 [ Attachment Invalid Or Does Not Exist ] 31822 [ Attachment Invalid Or Does Not Exist ] 31823

Big shoutout to WASD Keyboards for giving me a deal on the keycaps!

So, given the number of newbies that are roaming the forum, making threads and questing (in vain!) after the One True Switch, it seems like a good time to send this thing out.  Also, litster has graciously joined in and his tester numpad will also making the rounds.  Both numpads will be tracked and managed from this thread.

Mine has browns, blues, blacks, reds, clears, and ergo clears!
litster's has browns, blues, blacks, reds, clears, ergo clears, tacto clears, a grey, and a green!

For the first run at least I'd like to keep it inside the continental US, just to keep shipping simple.  For subsequent runs it can go to Canada, or overseas.  Even though the first round is US only, please post if you're interested regardless of where you live, so I can get a feel for where future tours should go.

UPDATE: The first round is in progress!  Please continue to post in the thread if you're interested in future rounds.  Make sure to include your location (state/province and country is sufficient).

THE RULES
 • You promise to be very careful with the Tester.  Despite getting a good deal on the numpad, I put a bit of money and effort into this project and I'd like to see it live a long time.
 • You promise not to disassemble the Tester, other than to remove its keycaps to check out its sweet, sweet switchiness.
 • You promise to post status updates to this thread promptly when you receive or ship the Tester.
 • You promise to post a brief description of how you liked the various switches, and why.
 • You promise to ship to the next person on the list within three business days of receiving the Tester.
 • You promise to take a photograph of the Tester in an interesting location or position, preferably humorous or demonstrating the local flavor where you live.  See the travelling gnome for inspiration.
 • You promise to post said picture to this thread promptly, and give a description of anything interesting therein.

Yeah, see the threads I linked in the OP.  The guy who posted the second one also has (had?) a bag of all kinds of switches touring Europe.

I'm interested. This thing could fit in a small flat rate box, couldn't it? Seems like a solid opportunity to try me some ergo clears.

The Rainbow pad.

I can give my P.O. box to you privately to ship to, also do you know what the shipping costs would look like?
This seems pretty awesome seeing as I am looking at buying a new keyboard soon, and I cant put in a final word on the cheery MX caps until I have actually tried them.

Assuming that it's roughly the same size as a numpad that is attached to my keyboard, there's no way it wouldn't.

wait, so you said you wanted to keep the first run within the continental US, but your list includes international.

Is the list just an interest check or...?

Sorry I should make that clearer.  The first tour (10 people) is US only, but I don't want to discourage others from expressing interest to get a feel for where future tours should be.
