QFR Stealth Update + EU Availability
« on: Wed, 10 April 2013, 12:19:01 »
Hi everyone,
Just a few things I wanted to mention about the QuickFire Stealth. We're really glad to see all the excitement around this product so I felt it was only fair to share these two frequently asked questions with you all.

NA Availability
We did originally have the launch set for tomorrow (4/11), but unfortunately due to a union strike at one of the loading ports in Asia, we got set back two days for our shipment, which is now listed for Monday 4/15. There is no 100% guarantee it can arrive on time, but we are fighting for it.
Nobody is more upset than our local team since we've prepared all the materials, worked on educating customers, and preparing our sales team to be ready for tomorrow. Ultimately, it is out of our control. The second our stock is available to purchase, you will see it listed here.

EU Availability
Many people have expressed their displeasure at the CM Storm team in EU for not carrying the Stealth model for various reasons, and up until now they weren't allowed to say why for legal reasons.
The truth is that Filco holds the patent for front printed keycaps in EU ONLY, so it has held up their ability to sell it. Up until today, they were actively trying to find a solution but it looks like there was no way around it.

I'll be glad to answer any questions you have and appreciate your patience and excitement for this product.

Thanks for the heads up.

I went ahead and ordered a TK that was supposed to be here today but UPS decided we were closed....even though there are at least 100 people working here today...

[sarcasm]Perhaps, such patent required many years of expensive research by highly qualified specialists.[/sarcasm]

Are the greens going to be only offered on the CM Storm site, or delivered to retailers?

Canada being worked on

Different between Stealth and QFR are the adjustable repeat rates, covert key caps, and windows keys on both sides instead of CM Storm logos.

Have the caps made in China and sent over. China does not care about patents. Then "accidentally" assemble it Europe.

On a more serious note, you can maybe set up proxy service. I know a few people here forward stuff from US to the rest of the world.

One more question concerning the differences to the regular QFR:

On the official product page it says "Stealthy rubber coated Keyboard body". So the case is new as well?

CMStorm.com description is what our HQ created.  That name is awful and we are just calling it a "Rubberized Top Cover" so yes that is also a minor difference.

Maybe MechanicalKeyboards.com can stock EU format stealths and sell them from the US?  Probably not as cheap as from Europe but probably just as much as buying a EU QFR and buying separate caps.

If Diatec starts to complain they can show MK selling EU versions of the Ducky as well.

The patent thing sucks. Would it be possible to sell the keycaps separately with reasonable shipping from outside the EU? I mean there aren't many alternatives if one wants side-printed keycaps.

I'm having trouble finding anywhere that has the CM Storm Quick Fire Rapid in MX Reds UK ISO layout. Do you know where I can get one that actually has them in stock (Scan, Aria etc. don't have stock)?

May I ask why these features bother you? Or is this unrelated?

I am thinking about buying my first QFR. After the initial problems with the left alt key were solved and the branding is gone I only hear positive feedback from most people. Is there something I am not aware of?

Well, some people hate rubber, I suppose.

I don't actually see a point in buying a QFR new here in the Czech Republic. It's available only with MX Blacks for about 2400 CZK (approximately $120, meh), while a filco can be had for ~3600 CZK ($180).

Wait, not available in black's WTF!

Also possible keycap options should be something like Laser etched, and diff color blank (white or black).

That would be boss.

I would personally probably get two, a blank white and a laser etched black.

None of the features bother me other than the rubber coating. its just that i thought the keyboard was going to be improved greatly but instead it just comes with a different set of ugly caps to throw away.

The side printed keycaps are a way to distinguish the QFR from other mechanical keyboards in the US market who don't browse geekhack. It's a cheaper alternative to a Filco, which is not well known in the US. The new QFR is looking to capture this market and distinguish itself from other mainstream mech keyboards like the razer blackwidow, logitech g710+, etc. The majority of people do not replace their keycaps. The black switch isn't a popular switch here in the US, which is why they aren't coming out with a black switch version. Anyone remember the firesale $40 QFR in black switch?

I really wish it had black.

So I need to make my purchase this week before I return to the Canadia's (in LA right now).

Should I just get a Filco Tenkeyless?
I would much rather get the gray-no-marking black switch or black stealth quickfire black switch.

But since it looks like there is no black switch and there's no final time when these come out, I'm thinking I should just go for the Filco??

I def. would want to purchase this by Monday so that with 2 day shipping it would get here before I leave.
Is the stealth/non-branding gray's coming to Amazon by Monday? (black switches)
