Cherry G81-3077 SAU - a custom build
« on: Sat, 12 January 2019, 16:41:58 »
This project has been a long time coming. While the keyboard may just seem like a vintage keyboard find and/or restoration, it is actually a custom build made from gathering its components all from separate sources. It all started when I decided I wanted a custom full-size 3000-series keyboard, but as I began to gather the components, I realized I would be able to recreate this beautiful keyboard.

Cherry G81-3077 SAU (NCR)
- NCR-branded industrial grey top, white bottom plastic case, Cherry 3000 series style
- Lubed (205g0) GMK screw-in stabilizers
- Lubed (Tribosys 3204, VPF1514) and filmed (kin25) PCB-mount retooled MX Blacks, 62g
- Cherry G81-3077 SAU PBT dye-sublimated keycaps
- Custom QMK-programmable PCB by TalkingTree -- open-source, can be found here

Yay! That looks fantastic as well :) Are the caps OG dyesubs or doubleshots? It looks you used the typical beige kind (SDU, SPBUS, etc)

They are the GMK classic beige caps that Originative had years ago.

Thank you! The industrial grey color is really something. I love it; at first this board was just supposed to be the typical beige Cherry case, but I got lucky in finding one of these grey cases.

Gorgeous build as always Lightning  :thumb:
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done
