If SP won't manufacture the key for us, we will produce the key with Qtan. He has done keys for the community before.
This GROUP BUY IS ALIVE AND WELL.

We got over 50 confirmed orders tonight. So I have started hunting for concrete pricing. Qtan has offered to direct ship to the buyers for a small fee. This sounds great to me. It will get the keys to you faster and save money.

I think it's safe to start ordering now that we have a test key done. It turned out awesome! SP did caution that they don't promise that the final will turn out exactly like this, but it looks great to me.

This is i3oilermaker's original laser'd version.

We will be going with white PBT. Profile is now KBC made row 4 (Esc and F keys) for Cherry MX switches.
The final key will have the image a bit to the left and slightly bigger if possible.

Here is the test key we had done at SP on white.

75 keys $4.50 / each

I'll do some inking on the svg and colour match to some beeker art and photos. We'll see how it turns out.

There are too many sharp angles for the injection molding cutter.

Thanks for the idea. If the colours don't work out in printing I can try to match that colour with plastic and not dye that part.

Sent this to Melissa for a test run.

Colours are purposely more saturated than normal. Their ink doesn't like subtle differences. We'll see how it turns out.

She said that they can't promise it will be this good. But it's a great sample. I'll get her to move it left a bit in the final. I think we should go for the colour one on white.

Updated OP, with further info.

Continue ordering as normal. I have written their licensing dept for permission. Hopefully they will understand what we're doing isn't a commercial enterprise.

So if you are interested put your ordering in so if/when they give permission we'll be ready to go.

I hate to be a drag but it doesn't matter if this group buy is not a commercial enterprise.
SP cannot make these and then sell them because that would constitute copyright infringement, which is on them, not us.

There is probably no easy way around this. Pretty much zero companies are going to be interested in risking litigation over a hobbyist product, especially one that provides them relatively little profit.

Good luck. I hope this does go through. But don't get your hopes up.

Yup. All we can do is try.

They may have a fan art policy or something. So the spirit and volume of what we are trying to do might matter.

All Melissa has to see is that we have permission. Then she'll do the run. So we just have to see what they say. I'll post up when I get it. It might be a while. Until them I encourage everyone to order as normal.

imsto is a member here, who ripster calls one of the heads of the KBC triads (haha) that either works for kbc or owns kbc. and they do custom dye sub pbt keycaps of anything.
