So we would need 2 sets of caps to make a full 65% layout, right?  Since we need the extra for the right side shift
2 x AEK caps, or 1 M0116 I believe

Issa good thing I have 2 x AEK keycap sets

You actually need an M0116 set to get that "right shift" since it's slightly larger than the ones provided in the normal AEK keyset for the bottom row.

So you need 1 AEK & 1 M0116.. or you can just have a smaller right shift that won't look as flush.

This is so nice. I probably can't join in, but I look forward to seeing the pics when these land on desks....

...maybe I can scrape together the funds somehow...

Yep, either 2x aek or 1x aek and m0116. Caps lock or the m0116 command key can drop in as 1.75u shift.

Update June 12 4:18PM:
Resin cast 1.75U shifts will be offered. Only one AEK keyset is necessary now, unless you want a legended key.

Yes please.

Any even remotely small chance of different colors?

I'd LOVE something more than grey/space grey!

I'm considering the options right now. Hopefully there'll be a few extra colors, but 7075 aluminum doesn't ano very well, so that places a limit to the variety that can be offered.

The PCB runs an atxmega32a4u. It is much higher performing than a typical atmega32u4, while being lower in price.
As for the firmware, Keyplus is magic. Zero driver issues, one-click reflash keymaps in a fraction of a second, no need to reflash firmware every time, unbrickable. I have been using it on my two daily driver boards for a few weeks now without any issues.

Well, I mean everything is brickable but I take your point- you have confidence in the firmware.
Looks like dfu-programmer supports the chip, but since it's xmega instead of avr I dunno if QMK can run on it- if so people would have that option as well if they wanted.
For me as long as I can, relatively easily, program my own layout I'm good.

Hello, replying to some questions.

Perfect timing for me as I have been getting into ALPS switches & AEKIIs lately! I got a really janky AEK64 PCB I managed to get working I was planning on doing an ALPS build with, but would much rather go with a full kit like this. I do have say the fact the PCB is using Keyplus is a little worrisome though. I hope that it is an easier solution than the QMK or other firmware flashing utilities, but I'd be lying if I said I'd prefer it over them on what will surely be a decently expensive kit. Anybody have any experience with Keyplus at all yet? Just wondering how well it works & reliable it is so far?

This is an autobuy for me, but I'd honestly prefer to see QMK on here.
What chip is going to be on the PCB?

The firmware is a concern of mine as well & I'd also like to know what IC the PCB will be using? Just kinda hesitant to tear apart one of my AEKIIs for a 65% or 60% ALPS build until I'm 100% behind the kit.

Thanks for the reply on my questions, that is great to hear! Makes me much more interested in the kit & Keyplus for that matter. I'm all for a an easier to work with firmware so don't take my doubt the wrong way, but we all know how well just about all firmware that was supposed to be a QMK killer turned out. I filled out the IC & entered my email address so you guys can get a hold of me when the GB goes live. Starting to get excited for this kit now, once my new AEKII shows up tomorrow I'll have all the caps & switches needed to build one! :thumb:

Good news!
AuthenticDanger will be producing resin-cast 1.75U shifts color-matched to the original AEK caps. This means there is no more need to purchase two AEKs to build this board.
More details will be added to the OP post soon.

Also, we are considering some more colors. Some options have been added to the IC form, along with a suggest-your-own-color field.

I was just going to use the Caps Lock from the second set for 1.75u right shift.
Wrong profiles don't rustle my jimmies that much, as long as it's a bit reasonable.

First off - love it - may well be purchasing when the time comes (preface over).

-

I'm curious as to why 4mm for the plate? Everything I've heard about Alps (more specifically tactile Alps) is that preference leans towards thinner and more flexible plates rather than the opposite, 1.2mm seems to be a common choice and I've even seen copper quite frequently. Will the 4mm integrated not be far too stiff for comfortable usage of something like a brown? (And that's a genuine question btw, I really don't know the answer).

I can't answer as to why 4mm, but from the cad drawing it appears that the switch cutouts are milled so they fit properly. The thicker plate is probably for the same reasons other boards opt for a thicker plate - a more solid all around feel. Some people like thinner plates for tactiles because there's more flex, but it's really down to personal preference IMO.

Opted for 4mm plate mainly for the solid sound/feel, as well as increased durability in the long run.

Not OP but if it works for AEK it works for other caps. AEK caps just have the bottoms of them cut off they're not any higher up.

weight?
Roughly 1000g. No separate screw-in weight, but the shell is decently hefty.

I know that it is designed for AEK caps but will this be compatible with other caps as well?
Theoretically, yes. However, they might look a bit out of place due to the curvature, and finding a 6.5u spacebar may be difficult.

I'm shooting to close it at the end of June or maybe even sometime mid June. It's moved forward a lot faster than I had expected and I would like to free up time for other projects once this one is done.
