Or if ur super rich, you can fordz dat Kaleidoscape catalog, it's like Netflix for rich people.

They even have the button to BUY the entire 4K movie catalog which is like $50,000

I'm not a huge fan of the kaleidescape player. But it's arguably much better than the messier disc situation that's occurred recently.

If I can have access to their library w/ out the player, then I'd just do that - since I can easily store it on one of my personal media servers (if needed).

I just watched The Thing in 4k. First older movie I've see in the format and seeing these old films in such clarity just doesn't look right to my eyes, you can really see the grain in the film especially during dark scenes. I don't know if they were this clear on film, or the 'film' of my brain is nostalgic for lower definition. Modern films actually filmed with high def cameras it makes sense, but how can they remaster a movie in a format that's greater than the technology of the day? Is it improving or changing how it was meant to be seen?

I'd like to see something like Baraka or Koyaanisqatsi in 4k might change my mind.

Well the movies can not be Touched without the involvement of the Original creators. So the new Color Grade has to be approved by the director. The OGs are responsible for what you see now, so it's Canon as far as creative intent.

In terms of theater release, obviously it won't be the same because Theaters have very low contrast ~500:1, An IPS Tv has ~1000:1 contrast, a VA TV has ~3000-7000:1 contrast.

For the 4K releases, they're all color graded on OLEDs or LMCL,  which means an OLED would be the most authentic way to watch them.   LMCL is not affordable for the general public.    VA is the budget solution. IPS is NOT suitable for movie watching unless it's LMCL IPS, 31 inch, $40,000.

The originals were shot in analog and it was high enough 'res' for cinemas back in the day, the VHS version you saw was just low quality because TVs were crap so they could get away with selling you it.  Now they can extract the full resolution of the original film and throw lots of computer power at filters to upscale it, if required, and do whatever fancy colour stuff tp4 loves.

It's good to know the OGs still have a hand in it, though surely many will be dead when the next format hits so will be interesting to see what they do then.

In the case of dead authors, you don't have to worry about the Bigger movies, because there is a limited set of professional color graders that the big studio use, and they're all top-notch.

The problem is with the lesser known indie films getting regraded by nobodies.  This isn't YET a problem for 4K though, because it's expensive to produce.  Once the hardware and certifications get more diluted,  then we'll see some bad-grades come out.

4K as of current is all Gold-Standard.

BTTF II hits closer to home for me since the day they go into the future was my son's 1st birthday (his original due date was Oct 31st/Halloween - which is why I named my son Jack/Jackson).

Who's the hotter Jennifer,  Elisabeth Shue from Part 2,  or Claudia Wells from Part 1. ?

This is a toughy, Shue also played Madelyn Stillwell in the latest "The Boys"

The grain makes it closer to how the movie looked in theaters. I used to hate it, but it really grew on me.

The HDR conversion on BTTF is apparently really good too, according to HDTVTest.

Watched BTTF P2 today,  not as visually impressive as P1,   but hopeful for P3.
