Cool. I'm going off to med school in the fall and can't decide between spending a bunch of money on a mac or saving money/losing my sanity researching a bunch of windows laptops.

Cool. I'm going off to med school in the fall and can't decide between spending a bunch of money on a mac or saving money/losing my sanity researching a bunch of windows laptops.

I run Linux so cant comment about how well Windows works on it, but from a hardware perspective its great, very snappy. Again, highly recommened.

That being said I paid $500 for it because I got it from a friend. I think it retails closer to $1000 -- truly an awesome laptop but $1000 is a little steep I think. YMMV cause you're going to be using Windows, just wanted to throw that out there though.

Also, GL with school!

I need to think about getting a vertical monitor. How are you guys liking them?

What is OT? And you don't need to buy a vertical monitor, you just need the stand. All monitors can go vertical, you just need to stand it on the portrait orientation to work. In Vista and lower, its Ctrl+Alt+direction arrow. In 7 you can use the personalization menu.

We do have standing desks at work, bit this one isn't. I just like my monitors to be eye level instead of looking down at them. I have better posture that way.

I'm the same way. Just lifted my monitors up a little bit last night, way less neck strain.

Ya, I have found it makes a huge difference.  I have basically the same setup at home (but with a much messier desk).  I apologize to all the OCD neat freaks out there, this image is probably going to drive you crazy.  :P

Looks much like my setup neatness wise :) Totally agree about raising the monitors, stuck an old phonebook under mine, so much better.

My hideous desk:

The aluminum extrusion was supposed to end up as a modular system for mounting things and getting them off my desk but it's not really working out the way that I'd hoped. Instead I've decided to make something like this:

And stain it black. Then I'll have a modular shelving/mounting system that will look good and be easy to work with. I did a very simple mockup of how it might look in sketchup. Looking for some constructive criticism. (If this is the wrong thread for that please let me know.)

Or maybe with a tv up top for my ouya/wii u

How do you clean so well?

My desks are usually so full of crap treasured belongings that I can hardly see the surface!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Well I am a bit OCD and it is always like that, all I "cleaned" was the crazy amount of dust off of the desk.

I had that same desk years ago. Had to get rid of it shortly after my son started walking. All the messy finger prints he could get in the weirdest corners were driving me nuts.

Awesome setup!!!
