The only bad thing about portrait displays is Cleartype doesn't seem to work (or very well).

^^^^glorious vertical secondary display master race

You know it :D

Just makes so much more sense (to me at least) since I use my computer for playing games and watching media, having one larger screen makes them far better, and means I can have web browsers etc open and completely usable whilst watching them (I'm currently watching Frozen Planet while typing this for instance :) )

That's very true...for TN panels. However, IPS panels look exactly the same in portrait or landscape. My portrait display is an HP ZR2440w at 1920x1200.

The other problem with TN panels in portrait is the very narrow viewing angle. IPS panels have much wider viewing angle both horizontally and vertically.

For more info on IPS panels...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPS_panel

IPS displays are more expensive than TN, but the image quality is off the chart better. It's like the difference between a membrane and mechanical keyboard.

They normally last 7 + years, so the extra expense is easy to justify.

Looking at that pixel arrangement I can't see that ClearType would work very well in portrait. Still you could always use MacType to get a high-quality greyscale AA instead.

Impressive! 7680x1600. All the real estate a coder could want, and you get a suntan while you work! Have you tried running one of the side displays in portrait? I find it very productive. Works great for reading through / working with your code. And being an IPS panel, it will look great.

No, not yet... but I still have an HDMI out on my video card an 20" Dell 2007WFP around, so I might just do that.

I also still have 3 Asus 27" sitting in their boxes from my old rig. I was half tempted to load up my box with all 3 video cards and rock 7 screens haha... would have NO idea how to get them all mounted though

Lol, I've got Apple Cinema LED 24" which is pretty much the same stuff as U2410. It's perfect size, but the resolution is so low I can literally count individual pixels... Was good 4-5 years ago when I bought it but it's a shame desktop monitor evolution is so slow :(

I've got three HP IPS displays bought within the last 12 months. It miffs me that monitor technology progresses so slowly. My 2560x1600 30" only has USB 2.0. Is it that hard to upgrade to 3.0? The TV industry easily does 120Hz and 244Hz, even on the Panasonic IPS TVs. So why is my $1,300 monitor still 60Hz?

The answer is: Because the manufacturers don't have to. We still buy them. Unless you go super high-end medical displays, it's pretty much just been Dell and HP. And without competition, there is no innovation. However, there are now a ton of small Korean companies producing IPS displays using LG panels for cheap on fleabay. Not sure I'd be willing to go that route for my business displays just yet. But just like mech keyboards were a small fringe market just a few years ago and now are mainstream, higher-end displays will grow in popularity as people discover how much better they are. As more vendors begin chipping away at HP and Dell, they'll have to start upgrading their offerings and dropping their prices.

Here is my office and PC, I need Custom cables and to liquid cool my processor at some point (for looks not performance :) ) Anyways, Samsung 32 inch LED Television and a 22 inch LED LG Monitor. the tv is my secondary monitor as the resolution is lower than the monitor, nice for my Xbox to watch movies and play games on. All my PC gaming is done on the 22 inch. Enjoy!

^ I think he likes the music :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

If you've already seen these, and was expecting other shots apart from the ones I linked, I apologise in advanced.
