By the way, has anyone had any experience with ordering from gonskeyboardworks.com?  I put a parts order in (nothing custom) on Feb 2nd and I still have not received the order, as well as not being able to get replied to by customer service.  This is going to delay my build I think... because I wanted to put new springs in my switches and I guess that is where I ordered them from (thought I had some already).  If anyone has any experience with them let me know here or in PM.  Can you lube and re-spring a keyboard after it has had the switches soldered in?  Seems like it would be a bad idea.... thanks.

I never ordered from gon before, but you can try http://zealpc.net/collections/accessories to buy springs and lube.

You can't change switch tops after you solder everything with the metal plate.  If you installed it without a plate then you can switch tops.

GON is backlogged. Not sure where he stands on non custom orders but his custom orders are slowed. I ordered some tuned switches in December for my Octagon and just got them today. So not too bad.

I put in a parts only order on Jan 6, and received it on the 23rd of Jan.

You guys aren't making this any easier!! Lol. I am very tempted to go with the 1.5-1.5-7-1.5-1.5-1-1-1 but my fake ocd wants to have correct legends on the keys, which is impossible since I'll be using a modified hhkb layout in it :(

Mine is still in New York as of this morning.  I'm sure the weather and the holiday haven't helped the situation.  Hoping it gets here by Friday at least.

Good Guy Elton organized the buy, split shipping with me and made the trek to meet up and hand off my two Octagons.

Thanks Elton!

Finally figuring out where to get all my parts.  Going to be placing an order with Zeal tomorrow for clear switch tops and white LEDs.  Is anyone using SIP sockets for their build?  If so, where did you source them from?  I like the idea of being able to hotswap LEDs rather than soldering them.

Sorry for all of the questions in here.  Just really excited to finally have my first custom.

I suggest you order the clear tops soon, else it might be sold out by tomorrow.

I've got pre-removed SIP sockets available here: http://zealpc.net/collections/accessories/products/led-sockets-for-removable-leds-mod-5
130x per bag, enough for a 60%. You'll need two bags for Octagon.

It's undeliverable.  Either the shipper in Gwangmyeong messed up your address (unlikely) or the shipping label was fully or partially damaged in transit (more likely).

You can try calling them to straighten it out, but they may refuse to deal with you since you aren't the shipper.  Considering the shipper is in Korea they might be more accommodating.  Doesn't hurt to try.

I called my wife immediately to ask her to call the post office as I cant be on the phone for a long time while at work. No answer, shes in the shower (her work starts after lunch). Waited 20 mins to call again, she picks up, I explained the situation. She told me hold on. Someone rang the doorbell.

Its USPS. They didnt look for what Apt # it is on the shipping label.

That was the worst 20+ mins in my keyboard life.

I am having frustrating shipping woes myself... after getting a message that DHL was delivering my package the tracking number disappeared and now the original tracking shows it is still cooling it's heels at JFK airport in NY.  I can't wait for them to get a move on and deliver me my fresh keyboard kit!!  Oh well, I will just keep stickering, lubricating, and re-springing switches I guess.  Oh yes... by the way... about how many switches should I plan on re-springing and lubing for this board? 80 or so?

That would have really sucked!  Happy it wasn't a huge issue.

Can anyone point me to a place that has switch stickers in stock?  Everywhere I have looked only has a few colours that aren't really my thing.  Haha.  Thanks.

Glad you got it sorted out!  :thumb:
That would have really sucked!  Happy it wasn't a huge issue.

Can anyone point me to a place that has switch stickers in stock?  Everywhere I have looked only has a few colours that aren't really my thing.  Haha.  Thanks.
techkeys.com has the best selection I saw. If not, there  is a link to the files on the CAD thread that has the dwg files to the stickers and you could have them printed or whatever.

Wow! Lucky me it finally found it's way to my door when I wasn't even expecting it anymore!  This is my first group buy and first custom keyboard kit and I was expecting something nice but this hardware blew me away.  It is like a work of art (well to me anyhow heh) , I see why so many members here love putting these together...  very excited... I am going to log the build with photos and if all goes well I will share it.  Thanks everyone for the group buy!

Got mine in the mail today. I might assemble it tonight if I'm not too tipsy. Good news for anyone looking for a green 75% GON that matches Toxic set perfectly (I'm putting one on sale soon).

I'm thinking about getting mine to someone who knows more about building than I do, but I'd rather not ship out of Canada. What is an approximate cost of getting one built?

The chemist chargers about 15 Bucks an hour for work. But it varies based on complexity of the build. He lost charges for shipping back to you.

Question for those of you who have done additional LEDs in your build:

If I'm looking at the bottom of the PCB (the side with the RGB LEDs), is it correct that all the top-side LEDs have their positive (+) leg on the RIGHT?

I've scanned the whole board a few times and it looks like they're all on the right.  Some are hard to tell.  I just don't want to miss anything.   :-[

I checked most of the LEDs for that because it is known that the bottom LEDs sits opposite from the rest.  But this one only one in the bottom is backwards.  I think it was either the R CTRL or the R ALT.

Plug in your PCB so it's on and touch the LED connectors to the PCB (LED pads) and see if they are indeed backwards or not (that's what I did).
