This Massdrop-hosted group buy, unlike most, is posted in the group buy subforum due to significant community involvement.  If there are any questions regarding this, please feel free to contact me.

This is such a good looking set, but man... GBs have such a long delivery time. February of next year? How can people wait that long for something they paid for.

Yeah it looks like if you want more than one child kit you have to "add another order" and deselect the base kit, so that 95 number is padded.

Even so, great response so far! How do the child kits work with SP? Do they each have their own MOQ?

SP is just so backed up on the SA production line.  This was really the earliest we could have hoped for.  We could have waited until November to run the drop, but there's a very good chance that more SA group buys would have popped up by then, and our December production slot would have been taken and we'd be waiting even longer.

Yeah it looks like if you want more than one child kit you have to "add another order" and deselect the base kit, so that 95 number is padded.

Even so, great response so far! How do the child kits work with SP? Do they each have their own MOQ?

Every kit has a MOQ.  They vary from 25 to 100; standard SP tiers.  You can see all of that right here:  http://www.massdrop.community/

MD will use that page to post daily numbers for each kit so we can watch for price breaks.

Looking forward to more realistic-looking renders, I'm not a huge fan of the current mockup but I suspect that this is one of those sets that looks a lot better in real life than it does in mockups.

:))  Maybe we can follow-up with an Archer tie-in novelty pack.

I neglected to tell Massdrop about making extra space bars available in the drop.  6.25 and 7 units are automatic -- are there any other sizes I should throw in there?  6.5 for the weirdo Corsair users?

DEFINITELY - roll in the Spacers as soon as  :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: .

For the Corsair users, time to step up for once and get a REAL keyboard.

SP might not have molds for 6.5 in SA profile.  I'm not seeing it on the list.  Gonna go back through a few GBs to see if they've ever been offered.

It might just be 6, 6.25, and 7.

I am excited for you to finally get this fantastic set up, congrats! :thumb: I've been planning on getting this set from the beginning but with a ship date of February 2nd makes it seem like Massdrop is in a hurry to get their money. I know the long wait is caused by SP having an influx in SA keysets but it doesn't make too much sense to start the GB now or at least have it run for a longer period of time. I don't really have a problem with it, there have been GB's with a lot longer wait times but this is different, it's on Massdrop with MD community members, not on Geekhack where everybody understands the troubles and waits of a group buy. With my experience on Massdrop I have noticed that they usually don't live up to their shipping estimates initially given. I know there are a numerous factors involved and it isn't all Massdrop's fault but I feel like there will be complaints and not as many people jumping into the GB because Massdrop is jumping the gun.

There are going to be complaints, yes.  No matter how hard we've tried to get out in front of it, the long wait for production & shipping is going to take its toll.  We're doing the best we can.

This plan was the lesser of two evils.  If we had waited to start the GB so the time between payment and delivery was shorter, then the odds are high that our December production slot would have been taken several times over by other SA key sets.  There will always be a key set in the queue willing to take the next available spot -- that's just the competitive nature of the hobby.  So by waiting we only would have prolonged the inevitable, at best.  This way at least we're ensured the next place in line and we have a rough timetable.  That, to me, is better than continuing to sit around waiting for the unknown.

Extra space bars should be available soon.  The artwork is done and we have pricing from Melissa.  Just waiting for MD to post it.

I'm also proposing a very small blank pack based on feedback from the drop.  Let me know what you guys think.

Did someone say 6.5 spacebars?  I'm really hoping the designers push for the 6.5 spacebars because true its that "non standard bottom row" group of Corsair and Logi users and yes I have since learned my lesson, but relative to 7U, 6.5U is very common.  If you guys can all get together about it, it would really be helpful.

Here's the thing Data and T0mb3ry Matt3o, CQ_Cumbers and everyone else out there in design land, you can really get some upsell on your novelty kits when you add 7U space bar support since the Corsair and Logi boards have more keys that need caps.  That's the plus side to why I always inquire about them.

Keep up the great design work guys, less wait more GBs!

We have CLEARED the first hurdle.  114 base kits sold.  The next price drop is at 200 and we should hit that easily.

Edit: Extra space bars are NOW AVAILABLE at checkout, or from the "My Transactions" page.

Edit: Extra space bars are NOW AVAILABLE at checkout, or from the "My Transactions" page.

Onya  :thumb: .

Got 4 of each because space-bars are sacred pieces, needed for extreme typing.

I have a question, and feel free to link to it in the IC if I missed any discussion about it, but did you give any thought to a deep dish (scoop) 5 for the numpad set?

The issue of scoops and bumps never came up during the IC (predating the big debate), so I proceeded with bumps concluding that bumps were what people would be most familiar with.  A couple people have asked about it since the group buy started and I'm considering ways to add scoops somehow.  Open to suggestions...

Well, I throw it in as a suggestion...a gimme in the numpad kit since it would likely be pretty cheap to add as another key? So just like the alternate '~`' key in the base kit, you just add a 5 with the scoop in addition to the bump already in the kit?

Are the default F and J deep dish? Does SP make FJ with bumps and/or bars? You could have a mega-option kit with deep dish, bars, and bumps for qwerty, dvorak, colemak, and numpad to cover more options and get higher MOQ.

If you're adding a catch-all set maybe consider a 1.5u backspace and 1u \| for hhkb/infinity layouts.

Absolutely gorgeous set.  I hate SA, but, depending on resources, I may finally decide to hop on an SA set.

Also, huge thanks for including the two symmetry keys for 60%ers.

I'm willing to ask MD to get us a quote on this.  It would be the absolute final change.  Let me know what you think.

This is the GROUP BUY phase.  The time for adding keys has long since passed.  I'm only entertaining these changes because we have several months before actual production begins, and because I want people to be happy with the set.  I like the idea of near-universal adaptability -- that was the whole point of going with Row 3.  But it will never be perfect.  Some keyboards will be left behind.  Thus, we have the Goose Pack.   :-[

Included are:
Scooped homing keys for Num Pad, QWERTY, COLEMAK, and DVORAK
Danger Zone flair for Planck and ErgoDox
Highlighted Enter key for Planck
1.5u Backspace for Infinity and HHKB-type layouts

The small Blank Pack is now available for $6.49.

FYI, blanks and space bars are unlikely to have any tiered pricing.

I asked this earlier but didn't find a response - does the base kit have any type of homing on F and J by default, either scoops, bars, or nipples? The renders don't show anything.

EDIT: I found them, wtb new eyes

Those renders only just went up this morning. The banner has been up for a few days.

My original renders had bumps on the homing keys, including in the Maverick Pack, but they are hard to see (low contrast).

It would be 250 or 300, but I'm not sure if MD asked for a price at that tier.  They will update it if we get that high.  Don't expect a huge price drop beyond 300 sets.

The above Goose Pack is now available for purchase.  It's quite a bit more expensive than I thought, but that's what happens when you add **** mid-GB.  :P

I'm sure it's at the lowest MOQ so we can get it cleared for production within 7 days.

Geez don't sell your retro's because later on you WILL regret that awful decision.  Especially when a few years pass by and you see some lucky person showing his Retro Ware online I bet you'll be teary eyed because you gave it up on a false premise, that you need some money urgently.

Money can always be acquired by various means BUT the Retro isn't.  I'm into this Danger Zone set as well because it's a very nice colour-way with clear legends reminding everyone out there that you have a jet-fighter style of setup before you.  Surprised why there isn't more gamers after this key-set.

If you game then you aint serious, unless you have the Danger Zone installed into your keyboard (FACT)  8) .

If I buy this, this will be my first SA key set. I really want them. Shipping to Australia, and then converting it to Australia makes the price so steep, (will cost more than my actual keyboard). Anyone from Australia getting one out of curiosity? And will it be worth the 120 dollars or so? I also plan to add the Numbad pack to fit my full size board in the future, which adds to the total of $159.99 AUD. rip wallet.

If I buy this, this will be my first DSA key set. I really want them. Shipping to Australia, and then converting it to Australia makes the price so steep, (will cost more than my actual keyboard). Anyone from Australia getting one out of curiosity? And will it be worth the 120 dollars or so?

Anyone from Australia getting one out of curiosity? And will it be worth the 120 dollars or so? I also plan to add the Numbad pack to fit my full size board in the future, which adds to the total of $159.99 AUD. rip wallet.

I'm not from Australia but shipping to where I'm at + the currency conversion will cost me more than a brand new keyboard as well but this set is definitely a keeper in my opinion  ;) So buy with confidence if you're really loving the colorway and design of this set  :thumb:

The above Goose Pack is now available for purchase.  It's quite a bit more expensive than I thought, but that's what happens when you add **** mid-GB.  :p

I'm sure it's at the lowest MOQ so we can get it cleared for production within 7 days.

Just added it...hope it tips...I can't believe I am in so far on this set...

...in preparation I sold my Base kit of SA Retro Burgundy, and will be selling novelties...thanks again for doing this set Data.  :thumb:

Thanks for the commentary. I loved being able to type on the SA Retro as it took me back to my Commodore days, but I should have purchased the NumPad set with it. Since I am going all in on the Danger Zone (which was inspired by my Vault keys, btw) and the sheer fact that it will look sexy on my full-size white case Shine II with Blazing Blue LED's, I win in this. [Bonus is that all my Row 3 Novelties will not be out of place with this set]

Only bummer is that I have to wait until Feb-March to type on them...  :-[

Miramar?... I have a cool story for you bro,

Once, I had a 5 day class in a building adjacent to Miramar. Everytime a jet took off, the building would shake and the instructor would have to stop for several minutes until we could hear him again. This happened several times an hour. It was fantastic.

Yeah nothing happens at MassDrop over any weekend period.  They have to go home and see their loved ones as well, so you'll have to wait till Monday to see all the updated information.

I'm wondering if these have the same textures as the Nuclear Data set -- sort of a semi-gloss, textured surface.

These would look great in a smooth glossy texture.

I've also never had SA or uniform 3rd-row before... but does this set ever look good...

Yeah, they'll be Semi-Gloss like Nuclear Data and many other SA sets.  It's the only finish available for the 1.75u, 2.25u, and 2.75u keys in Row 3.  It's also the only finish available for space bars if the document I have is correct.  Best to have everything match.

Small update...  We are at 420 base kits sold.  Everything has tipped except the JD40 Pack, which is still only 5 of 25 and shows no sign of improving.  Sorry JD40 users!

MD extended the order period a few days to capture the Friday paychecks.  The new closing date is Monday 10/5.  :D

Everytime I see a 60% set I get down that GH60 GB is still stuck.
What does this have to do with anything?

It's annoying enough when you guys complain about the GH60 delays in the GH60 thread.

NOTHING, they're bored and decided to do a typical forum skulk messaging.  If it aint getting traction in their own section try to spread it elsewhere, very common behaviour on forums everywhere.

I believe there was talk of a round two sometime next year around Summer (Northern Hemisphere). And there I'd always a chance of grabbing one from a Massdrop Bazaar sale if they have extra sets that don't get used for replacements.

I got in on the GB. I wish I would have bought the numpad set also.

Contact Massdrop support - I added in a non-standard layout kit to my order of Jukebox something like 2 months after the buy ended with no problems

Well, Massdrop responded back and said there would not be any extra inventory. So I'll have to wait until the set is in buyer's hands and see if anyone is willing to part with the numpad set.

That's a shame and kind of unusual considering that its going to be a while before this set even goes into production

They've already placed the order with SP.  There will be extras but they won't promise them to anyone until all the orders are fulfilled, the dust settles on delivery, and any shipping/production errors have been corrected.  That could be a couple of months AFTER initial shipping.

You might keep an eye on the PMK site for sets put up for sale there once they ship out the existing orders.

So apparently the bulk order has shipped.  Massdrop never shared any production photos with me and I was never asked to QC anything, so that has me a bit concerned.  I'm not really sure what to expect... but at least it shipped on time (maybe even a little early).

Don't worry if SP has stuffed up anywhere on this key-set, let Melissa know as soon as possible.  They're pretty good at fixing their problems when it comes to production mistakes but it means you have to wait longer.

Just got mine and LOOOOOOOOOOOOVEEEEEEEEEEE it so much!! I'm going to be having waaaay too much fun at work with these keys. :p

Am trying to put it on my WASD keyboard w/ clears - and keep having trouble with the stabilizers. The keys keep falling off and won't stay correctly - and also keep getting stuck if I finally manage to get it on somehow. This keeps happening with any keycaps with my WASD. Is this normal? Any tips?

Thanks!

Quick shot of my WASD clears with the Wingman pack enjoying itself on my desk at work  :thumb: :D

I love the way these keys feel - except for this darn unstabilized space bar and the left shift key that keeps getting stuck.

Any tips on the best grouping/order for the Wingman pack's keys across the top row so that it makes the most sense would also be much appreciated! (I need to touch up my fighter pilot vocab....!)

I was surprised to find my order in the mailbox today.  USPS did their jobs this time.   :p

Unfortunately there are some minor production errors, and one huge one: AeroDox Pack was manufactured almost entirely in the wrong base color.  I've reached out to the Massdrop guys to see what we can do.  Apologies in advance to anyone else who bought that kit.  If Massdrop had done as they promised and allowed me to QC the set prior to shipment this could have been avoided.

Anyway, I hope everyone else is enjoying it.

amandah:  I did a sample with the Wingman Pack here:  http://i.imgur.com/MKJHspj.png  I think the nav cluster has the keys you're referring to.  Putting them in the Function row was something I hadn't considered -- nice idea.  Thanks for the photo.

My spacebar was wobbly too.
I had to use a few layers of plasic for my Filco stabilizer-inserts to firmly stay into the DZ spacebar stems.
Now it's fine. Hope this does the trick for you too.

Thank youuu, kind soul! I noticed the upside downess yesterday while typing... brought my key puller today to fix it!

I noticed my "T", "7", and "9" keys are a bit higher than the rest as well... I've tried pushing them down a bit more but it still seems to jut up a bit. Not enough to be annoying but just slightly noticeable.

And yes, I tried the ol' 1cm x 1cm of tape on the space bar stabilizers and it WORKED!! I cannot tell you how HAPPY I was to have a working spacebar. Makes me love this keyset even more, if that was even possible hahah.

Yes! Sharp eyes! :) Thanks for clarifying - it's a CODE. I got so used to calling it WASD to tell people in the office where it's from.

Thanks for the render! I was thinking about placing the Wingman pack in the media keys section as well if only so I could have "Gear up" and "Gear down" for Pg up/down.  Might switch it over to that at some point.

Now I wish I got that Dogfighter pack solely for the yellow "Airstrike" key.....  :thumb:

Slight note - my "Master Arm" key came in blue and not gray as shown in the Wingman pack.

Cross-posting from Massdrop:

Guys, right now there are 3 main errors that we know about:
1. AeroDox wrong primary color
2. Wingman "Master Arm" key wrong primary color
3. No bump-style homing keys in any pack

Please go through your kits over the next couple of days and reply here with any major errors. I'm looking for missing keys, wrong colors, incorrect legends, and anything like that. I didn't buy everything so the only way I can know there's a problem with certain kits is if you speak up. Thanks!

Guys, right now there are 3 main errors that we know about:
1. AeroDox wrong primary color
2. Wingman "Master Arm" key wrong primary color
3. No bump-style homing keys in any pack

Yep, I had all these issues, and some others.

- The Dogfighter grey on blue WASD cluster has it's blue characters worn and patchy.
- The grey Tab key has a worn 'T'
- The pipe symbol (on both blue and grey keys) seems to have been molded wrongly, looking like a colon.

I've sent this off to Massdrop as well, and hopefully they'll get back to me on that.

Can you provide a photo of your Dogfighter problem so I can see what you're talking about?  A simple cell phone pic would probably do.

Are you referring to the Tab key in the base kit?  That might be a one-off.  I haven't seen anyone else with that issue.  Definitely contact Massdrop for a replacement.

The pipe | symbol is two parts in this font.  That's not an error.  If you're running Windows, open a command prompt and type the pipe key a few times.  It can appear as one or two "pieces" depending on the font.  Either is technically correct.  But if you're referring to a different legend than the one I'm thinking of here, please let me know.

Still working with Massdrop to request the following corrections from SP.

  • AeroDox are in the wrong color
  • Wingman Pack "Master Arm" in the wrong color
  • Base Set didn't' have bump "F" & "J"
  • Numpad didn't have bump "5"
  • Maverick Pack "H" "U" "N" "T" didn't have bumps when they were suppose to

If anyone has something to add may he speak now or forever hold his peace.

I haven't got any emails or communications from MD about these mishaps - are they going to send them to everyone affected or do we need to get in contact with them individually?

In the past they've shipped out the replacements automatically on a kit-by-kit basis.  I predict this will be the same, but I'll confirm with Yanbo.

The pipe key is fine then, my mistake. You can see the WASD cluster in the pic below, and the bottom of the TAB key seems to have not been completely filled on the T. I've already sent pics and an email to Massdrop.

Thanks, yeah.  Your WASD looks a bit lean.  I'll mention this to Yanbo.  I'm supposed to have a Dogfighter kit on the way to me, I'll try to confirm when I see it.  If this is common in the kit we will address it with SP as a production/QC error.

Your TAB key is definitely off too.  Unfortunately that's not one that we can address with the production errors.  It's just a bad cast.  Hopefully Massdrop is able to send you a replacement.  Sorry you got a bad one.

I've been happy with my set since it came in. I actually just came to this thread out of curiosity. So, it wasn't until I read the last few posts that I realize that I was also missing "bump" homing keys. Personally, I don't think I'd ever switch from scoops, but it would probably be a good idea to have them just in case. Was there ever confirmation on whether we needed to contact Massdrop about getting them? Either way, great set. Everyone compliments it all the time.

I don't think there was bumps - the sets are supposed to be missing f and j homing keys - is that right?

edit: didn't realise there were bumped f and j's included. deep dish keys are included

ALL the homing keys were intended to be BUMPS, UNLESS you bought the Goose Pack.  I had a feeling this would happen when the set went to production, so I made sure to mention it to Melissa in my last email to her in November.  But they still got it wrong.

Wait, the base TKL kit was supposed to only have bumps and not scoops? Then I have to say, best mistake ever. Sorry, but I've never had scoops before. Now I can't go back to bumps. Don't take away mah scoopz.

They messed up the Master Arm key from the Wingman Pack again. This was supposed to be the fixed key that they randomly made in the wrong color the first time. Now they got the right color but they changed the key size randomly to 2.25u. I even annotated the correct key size on my error report images to SP, but apparently the people running production and QC either can't ****ing read or don't give a ****.

Ouch, that's hilarious.  I'm sure they'll make it whole if for no other reason but to avoid the retooling and shipping expenses.  Trite I'm sure considering the business they're receiving, but kind of cray cray since they had the correct information from you prior to running it through the press.  I'm sure they'll take care of us, thanks for submitting the fix report back to them :thumb:
