The stunning outlook



Compared to standard transparent switches (like our former products), the Butterfly Switch transmits brighter and clearer, with a texture that compares favourably to the rendered image. Please note that all pictures in this article were taken in real life.

The Butterfly switch is stunning at first glance, looking more like a piece of luxury jewellery.

4 Cavity Mold



To achieve this look, we completely polished the new mold. Repeated and thorough polishing gives the injection molded housing a clean and crisp finish.
But such a high level of polishing requires constant adjustment and maintenance to ensure production quality. As a result, normal 16-cavity mold, or even 8 cavity mold, is not up to the challenge.

After team discussion, the fully polished mould used to produce the butterfly switch has only 4 cavities. This sacrifices production efficiency but ensures product consistency.

Combined with the nylon modified material programme that we have been working on, we have finally produced a shaft that is satisfactory in both feel and appearance.


Rolling in the Deep (The Thocky Sound)



In our long term experiments and research on materials, we have found that nylon housings result in a deep sound signature. And as a trend that is gaining popularity in the Chinese market, the FOD Butterfly Switch will be the most thocky switch we have at the moment.

(It would be nice if we could get some typing sound videos, but unfortunately not yet available, so stay tuned!)


Customised light diffusers



Compared to the standard light diffuser design on the market, we have specifically improved the even light effect, making the RGB look more spread out.

What's more, from our perspective, the addition of the diffusers makes the typing sound more "focused", i.e. more "thocky".  The diffusers can be removed if you don't like it (they're pre-installed by default btw).


35g/55g spring options

Butterfly Switch is available in 35g and 55g spring weight preferences, so both gamers and typists can experience a distinct typing feel. With the silky smooth feel and thocky sound guaranteed, the additional fully polished housing brings the outlook to another level.

Is it really worth it?

Will an 80-cent switch work three times better than a 20-cent switch?
Not really. With keyboard switches, the more they are optimized, the more details are improved. And there's very little difference in quality that's noticeable to the keebfans anymore.
If you care more about the smoothness and sound of the switch, and are willing to jack up your budget a bit for it, maybe the FOD is a good choice.

About FOD

You probably haven't heard of us because we're kind of new. However, we built our own factory in China and are now one of the manufacturers in the biz.
