INSPIRATION
A degenerate artisan goblin in the Switchkeys server said to me early this year “Oi stew, I want these, make it happen” to which I said, yeah ok, when I get time. Nearly 6 months later, I had time.

When looking at the idea of doing a buy of relegendables for beige (the best colourway) I realised there hadn’t been a run of these for a while and that maybe people want them in more than just beige. So, I’ve included a few options. There are 7 kits in total. There are 5 kits of blanks and 2 kits with front printed legends.

Why the plus?
Well in the past these kits had only usually been done in single colours or to suit a specific set, so the plus is to set it apart from those.

Unfortunately, I don’t own any of these caps to take my own photos, part of the reason I wanted to run this GB so much.

KITS
Front printed kits – CR base and U9 base.
These include front printed kits in the two colourways we assumed would be the most popular. The legends chosen will cover the top row of a TKL/full size as well as the nav cluster. While yes the row height would be better if it matched the rows of the nav cluster, I’m not sure GMK will be able to cater to this request and as far as I know they only make them in the R1 profile.

Blanks kits – CR, WS1, U9, L9 and N9.
These kits will cover a range of common colourways used frequently on GMK sets. If you are unsure if these kits will match your set, please ask in the comments and I’ll get back to you ASAP. The short version, is it will cover you for most things WOB or BOW, sets with white alphas (that aren’t WS2), all the classic beige variants and anything with dolch coloured mods. Recent sets that some of these will work with (blanks kits) include the Desert base of Botanical R2, Monochrome mods, Minimal, Serika Accents (to be confirmed), Sixes, Modern Desko, Patisserie, Stealth, Thinkcaps, Beta, Dolch R5 etc. You get the idea. They’re useful for many, many kits. 

The choice to include sets of 10 was based on how many people would need and was the best value compromise we could come up with. The goal was to balance the needs of those who only want a few and those who (most commonly) will want to fill the top row of a TKL.

Question about the number of blank relegendables. I understand that you’re trying to bring a balance between people who only want a couple, and people who want to fill out the top row. 10 doesn’t feel that much less than 13-14, so unless the price varies so much between the 2 numbers, I would go ahead and do the full 14 (preferable). Either that, or would it make sense to make it 7 (less preferable) so that a person who wants a couple buys one set, and someone who wants TKL + F13 buys 2?

I’m also really dumb so maybe there’s something I’m missing in this suggestion. Take it with a grain of salt.

I added a comment on my form submission, but I will post it here too. Cherry had some 1.5u relegendables for some ATM boards or something like that. I have a few and they are super neat and look good on a bottom row. Was wondering if GMK acquired those molds and if a kit of those would be possible too.

exactly. If they're under a buck a key I'll clear 10 packs. they get to 80 cents a piece because giant MOQ on god i will fill a donutcat 225 key macropad with them

I agree. 14 sounds like a good number. A "half" kit would be 8 rather than 7, to cover F1 to F4, then F9 to F12. This is especially for beige sets.

Ill be adding some questions that have come out of early feedback to an updated IC form. There's a few id like more peoples input on. This is one of those questions.

In all photos or references we could find, most beige Relegendables on classic boards were in the mod colour only (this may not hold true 100% of the time, but it's what we went off, im sure someone will correct me if that's not the case). However, as you noted modern sets tend to alternate. Though my early guess is that what we might do is add 8 key caps to that kit to allow it to be two-tone with the front printed legends. But ill be putting that to a vote in the IC form.

Another main point we will look into is front vs top printed as there have been a few requests, though that appears to be purely a preference thing and could go either way. Unfortunately, we wont be able to keep everyone happy with this kitting and will do the best we can to meet the needs of as many people as possible, while keeping prices low.

UPDATE:

After discussion with vendors and discussions with the designer of GMK Handarbeige, we have decided to run this set around early November.

The Handarbeige designer and I came to an agreement that it would unfair of me to run my set prior to his, given it includes relegendables keys in colours that match some of those in Relegendables+. So we will run this GB after his set so as not to damage the potential of his kits hitting MOQ etc. Both of us agreed this was best as it gives both the best chance possible at being successful and also because it aligns with our community goals (both from Australia) and not creating drama this hobby does not need.

So I'm sorry if this is later than anyone was expecting. We already have pricing planned and we plan for it to be very reasonable. More renders incoming soon of other colours and other boards. Be sure to make any requests for boards in this thread.

So we will run this GB after his set so as not to damage the potential of his kits hitting MOQ etc. Both of us agreed this was best as it gives both the best chance possible at being successful and also because it aligns with our community goals (both from Australia) and not creating drama this hobby does not need.

So I'm sorry if this is later than anyone was expecting. We already have pricing planned and we plan for it to be very reasonable. More renders incoming soon of other colours and other boards. Be sure to make any requests for boards in this thread.

Definitely interested in WS1 and CR.

I'm curious how the MOQ and pricing varies between selling these as kitted 10-key sets, versus selling them individually and placing the order with GMK as a big order of individual caps (e.g. instead of selling 150 10-key sets, you order it as one big 1500-key order), and shipping it out to the customers in bags. I understand the latter would be a lot more work on the vendor side though, so it makes sense to do it this way, as much as I would love to see a free-for-all GB with every GMK stock color available (similar to the  last GMK blanks GB (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=100031.0) where anything that hits MOQ gets made.

We explored this with GMK. They advised we were unable to do that with shipping in big lots as they note that it would increase QC issues and result in scratched caps. We also explored doing say kits of 50-100, opening them ourselves and splitting. By the time we did this and added our own bags + environmental issues (aka double the amount of packaging this way), the price break differences were negligible.

So yes, I tried. I want them to be as affordable as possible for everyone.

KITTING FEEDBACK WANTED!!!!

Alright everyone this is getting close. I have had soo much feedback which is great, but kitting in terms of numbers for blanks, no one seems to be able to agree. Like with any kitting issue, it will never be perfect for every scenario.

Whether you want to put them on macro rows, macro pads, the f-row on a tkl, f-row on an f13 board, on a full size, f13 + nav cluster, on a wacky ortho, the whole number row, on a proper old school board that needs heaps of them etc.... there are unlimited options for how these are used. So I've got it down to a few options. I've made a new google form for a vote. I've added kits of 20 as it might be a very tiny amount cheaper (still waiting on updated quotes from GMK).

All feedback is appreciated. Either way, this will be live November 16th.

Was being inclusive of people who use full size boards. Can then also easily throw them on a numpad if you don't have a full size as well.

Seems like every GMK GB takes about 16-20 months from GB end, so this won't be happening soon. If you look at the GB page instead of the IC page, it even says earliest anticipated delivery is Q1 of 2023.
