Ok, the thing on stopping cancer research.
Cancer research in its existing form is fundamentally going no where, when the root causes, (Capitalism), is not addressed under (Capitalism).
Then the second part is Cancer Accelerants, which is a set of behaviors, high heat cooking of meat, denaturing proteins and fats. This is culture, and it is yet again, NOT addressed, Cancer society websites routinely promote "Keto" brand recipes.
Finally, there's eating meat in general. TMAO, Heme Iron, Bio-Accumulated pesticides/Chemicals.
So, that brand of research goes NO WHERE, as it's almost entirely focused on TREATING cancer, which means, Treating the symptoms of cancer, instead of the disease.
Chemo, and other highly expensive procedures are extremely low efficacy. Doctors wouldn't prescribe it for themselves, they'd rather die than bother with it.
The problem isn't whether we stop or start more cancer research. The problem is far more foundational in the incorrect way in which we live.

That is barely significant in comparison to the pardons for everyone involved ....
