As our first keyboard design we wanted to do something sleek and minimal for our desk spaces. We've designed a compact board with a weighty feel and style that contrasts with its soft typing experience.

The PLX is comprised of a 3 layer construction. The top and middle cases are machined from solid billet 6063 aluminium and feature soft chamfered edges and modern rounded corners. The solid brass base weight is fastened through the plate and PCB to achieve an entirely screwless appearance.

Inside, your choice of plate material is mounted between gasket strips, with kerf cuts in the north and south ends of the plate. Each keystroke has a soft bottom out and quick return. Offered in winkey, winkeyless and HHKB designs our variable soldered layout will please any compact connoisseur.

RELEASE INFORMATION

Based on initial interest and feedback from the community, we have decided to offer the PLX firstly through a 300 unit soft cap pre-order. This will reduce the chance of people missing out on the opportunity to purchase a PLX and helps bring the price down slightly. If the soft cap is reached, we will increase the cap. After all pre-order units have been shipped, we plan to offer in-stock extras.

Dates = Pre-order opens at 6pm on the 1st February 2022 and will close on the 1st March 2022

PROTOTYPES

V2 Prototype
The V2 Prototypes feature subtle internal improvements which improve the building experience for the end user. The anodizing and e-coating is of extremely high quality, and we are very happy with the base weight PVD coating. The V2 prototypes have been tested extensively with a range of plate and switch combinations, and overall we are very happy with the sound, feel and build experience. We have reduced the colour options for this first round of pre-order, as the Racing (Green) and Yukon (Navy) could not be colour matched to our standards.

Additionally, we received revised FR4 plates, Polycarbonate plates, Aluminium plates (black & rose gold) and accessories.

the way the board is mounted looksgood! but the bezels are too wide for my taste and that front is just  too thick and ruins the minimalist aesthetic for me. good luck in IC  :thumb:

Majority of the weight on the base is 3mm, 5mm at the bosses that mount into the middle aluminium
The base made from either brass or stainless steel will be ~850 grams
Fully assembled we expect it to weigh ~2.5kg
Coatings to suit both stainless steel and brass and will be confirmed at a later date
Exploded Render has been added to see internal components
Gaskets are adhered to the plate which is mounted between the top and middle aluminium case

We are working on more detailed renders of the internals this week, with prototypes arriving very soon we can be more accurate with weights of the materials.

Colours for round 1 are pretty set at this stage. We may run another round next year with a new range of colours - what would you be interested in?

We are hoping to start the GB in August/September, however this depends on if there are any delays from the manufacturer with the prototypes (covid etc.). Turnaround depends on how many we sell, though we would expect around 6-8 months from GB.

The PLX been in development for over 6 months so just a coincidence that the designs are similar. This IC was also posted before the Pneuma. Can guarantee you we had never seen the board while designing this :)

PLX has larger bezels on the side. I like large bezels, but I see the utility in a narrower board.

They both have simple classic designs, so I don’t think anybody stole any designs here. But you’re right, at first sight they look similar.

What else I can discern, as a n00b outsider:

Pneuma has a stainless steel base, which makes the machining more expensive. (More blunt chisels. ) PLX still has a SS weight, so it’s heavy too, but the weight is probably simpler to machine, so I suspect it’s more pragmatic.

I don’t know about the difference in typing feel - I remember about “slow rebounding gaskets” in the Pneuma, I think.

I wouldn’t mind either, to be fair. But Pneuma will be more expensive, especially because most of the rest of the world has to upgrade their money to Euros to pay. I would love a Salvun-made board, but Salvation r2 will definitely be cheaper as a first Salvun special.

Any idea how much shipping is going to be to the US? I'm increasingly interested in this board, but I'm scared to know how much shipping will be from Aus.

Hey Diggidy, not sure on shipping prices yet. We will be likely using DHL for international shipping and the board weighs approx. 2.5kg - maybe you can estimate based on that information?

We will be sending prototypes to the US for reviews, so can update you on estimated shipping prices based on the shipping cost of that.

Rest assured, we will be trying to get the cheapest (and safest) possible shipping options for international purchasers. Appreciate the support - stay safe!

Will the phantom black with polished stainless combo be available?

I see the proto photos have them (love it, personally), but the phantom colorway has a black pvd bottom weight.

Hi Rubik,

The base phantom kit will only be offered with the black PVD weight at this stage. However, we are planning on offering extra weights if you wish to purchase a silver weight with your order.

Hopefully November / December for GB. We are still waiting on second round prototypes - getting all the colours perfect has been difficult.

The subtle off-white colouring, the tasteful thickness of the bezel. Oh my god, even the edges are chamfered.
