This is a very unique set (as far as I'm aware!) and one I'm very proud of. The colours are calm, cool and original, ones you've likely never seen on a set before.
It will be in standard Cherry/GMK profile (1-1-2-3-4-4), made with original Cherry legends and thickness. You know the drill by now, I'm sure.
This set will be produced to the best of my ability. I don't have the ability to say "I'm going to make this happen, regardless" but I'm going to do my best to make it happen, because I really want it to come to life.
To address some common questions I'm sure to get:
Yes, the alphas and modifiers are custom colours. (The red keys are not custom, but I don't think RO1 has been used on a set before.)
Yes, I have done the best I can do offer complete support to all common layouts.
As is, this keyset will support: Standard ANSI, ISO (sorry non-English speakers :/), 1800, WKL, HHKB, FC660M, standard 75%, includes both scoops and barred homing keys, as well as some other oddball layouts.
Yes, this idea is original. I did not draw inspiration from any other sets. I literally had a picture of a plum www.mvfruit.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Angelino_plum_03.jpg for my inspiration.
No, I will not be handling the group buy myself. I simply don't have the time or resources to handle this it myself.
Based on the results of the poll I had live for multiple weeks, I will be running GMK Plum on Massdrop. ~75% of people wanted Massdrop, while only 25% of people wanted Originative. That's just an easy decision for me to make.

I usually am not very fond of colorful f-row, but in this case I think the red f5/f6/f7/f8 will look great. IMO you should also add red Print Screen, Scroll Lock and Pause for symmetry.

I refuse to have any Ctrl on my set. I don't like how it looks. I wouldn't count on 1.25u blanks, though. I'm happy with where the set is now. My next set, should it ever happen, I will definitely change this.

Funny thing is, the original colours were much brighter, but dulled by GMK's render. Turns out, I like those colours more, so I've altered the set to reflect those colours instead!
This set seems to have lots of support, so I think I can say confidently that it will happen c:

Aww really? I'm not a big fan of the code key myself, don't really feel like it fits the aesthetic.
Agree with this.
But if you are going to ditch the windows keys, you should definitely have a text menu key instead of the icon as well. The icon already looks kind of meh, but having it as the only icon makes it stand out a lot more and look completely out of place IMO.
I would personally prefer a FN key over Menu, but anything is better than the isolated menu icon =)

Very disappointed to see windows keys completely removed. At least give people the option like you did with the bars. It's enough to see me not getting this set for now.

I'm a fan of full sets like this that have a unique and distinct color scheme for the alpha keys, that purple on whitish/yellow is a look that would go great with other mods out there too.

Still on Win 7 Ultimate, it works as stable as a rock, I do not remember a single frozen event in at least eighteen months or even more.

Speak for yourself... 18 years using Windows, seen all the flavours of it: Workgroup 3.1, 95, 98, ME, 2000, XP, 7 and now 10 (skipped 8). Never had to spend hours fixing anything (maybe just because I'm a tinkerer, I don't count tinkering as 'fixing', just part of the experience of getting my computer to work exactly the way I want it)

I think there is a misunderstanding here. I just don't like the boring "CODE" key. In my point of view I want the "Windows" keys but they don't have to have Windows logo on them. Any beautiful icon would be great, what about a plum icon?

What do you mean? Wouldn't you have to pay taxes regardless no matter what website you buy it through? I've bought keys on Originative before and have paid import taxes every time, they clearly state so too on their website - "If you place an order from a country outside of the United States, you may be subject to applicable customs, import duties and taxes, which are the sole responsibility of the buyer/receiver." Am I missing something?
Oh and by the way ever since Massdrop started using DHL international as their main (or exclusive, actually) shipping method to European customers things have changed a bit - I've received a decent amount of packages from MD after the switch and the orders make a stop in Germany (Frankfurt) to be redistributed to other countries from there. As a result, they get relabelled and more often than not customs fees and wait time are heavily, if not completely, staggered.
First time I noticed it I thought it was just a fluke because it was a relatively cheap set of keys, like 40€ or something, but in Portugal our VAT limitation is roughly 25€ - needless to say I was intrigued regardless, then after I received a couple more MD orders I noticed that after relabelling in Frankfurt the sender country is registered as Germany and not the US (save one singular occasion out of like 10). I'd imagine if the local post bothers to look up the DHL tracking trail things may be handled differently, plus most my orders didn't exceed 50-60~ dollars but I had my brother order a DarkVoice which is a 9 pound $250 tube amp from recently to test the theory and once it arrived he didn't have to pay a dime either. Same goes for a friend of mine who dodged $200 in customs and handling fees in Iceland after receiving his Fostex TH00X a week ago.
Anyway, I digress, point being if we have to pay import taxes no matter where the GB is held, Massdrop might be our best bet. Food for thought.

I've been using ANSI layout keyboards for like 15 years now, every single person I know that even remotely cares for keyboards, even ones who don't really delve into the set/keycap world(s) use ANSI and I live in Europe, from all sorts of different countries too. I haven't seen an ISO layout keyboard at real tech store in years.
Just because ISO kits struggle to sell does not mean European buyers aren't buying custom sets and that their success is exactly the same without us, it's mindblowing to me that you can even think that's the case.

Depends on your definition of "tank", success is relative. You can succeed with a MOQ of 150 being met just barely or with 5000 sets being sold. You cannot possibly have access to concrete statistics of how many of the 1k carbon sets sold on MD last time were bought by Europeans for example, asides the amount of ISO kits sold where do you derive your educated guess from?
I understand your point, I just don't think you're doing a good job of getting it across when you have no real basis to support your argument other than the fact some of us use ISO layouts and ISO kits don't sell as well as others some times.

You can combine packages, declare them yourself etc. - cost-wise I can't comment much, however, for me, a visit to the customs office is more costly than anything, so I love Shipito

What do you mean? Wouldn't you have to pay taxes regardless no matter what website you buy it through? I've bought keys on Originative before and have paid import taxes every time, they clearly state so too on their website - "If you place an order from a country outside of the United States, you may be subject to applicable customs, import duties and taxes, which are the sole responsibility of the buyer/receiver." Am I missing something?
Oh and by the way ever since Massdrop started using DHL international as their main (or exclusive, actually) shipping method to European customers things have changed a bit - I've received a decent amount of packages from MD after the switch and the orders make a stop in Germany (Frankfurt) to be redistributed to other countries from there. As a result, they get relabelled and more often than not customs fees and wait time are heavily, if not completely, staggered.
First time I noticed it I thought it was just a fluke because it was a relatively cheap set of keys, like 40€ or something, but in Portugal our VAT limitation is roughly 25€ - needless to say I was intrigued regardless, then after I received a couple more MD orders I noticed that after relabelling in Frankfurt the sender country is registered as Germany and not the US (save one singular occasion out of like 10). I'd imagine if the local post bothers to look up the DHL tracking trail things may be handled differently, plus most my orders didn't exceed 50-60~ dollars but I had my brother order a DarkVoice which is a 9 pound $250 tube amp from recently to test the theory and once it arrived he didn't have to pay a dime either. A member-ran GB was never an option on the table for the groupbuy, it was either gonna be MD or Originative, and you would have to pay import taxes either way. I've learnt long ago just to suck it up and pay the HMRC their cut so I can have my stuff from overseas. If it irks you so much then I'm sorry to hear, but vendors do provide certainty and peace of mind, which is less so with a member-ran GB (I say this recognising that 99% of member-ran GBs are successful and everyone gets what they paid for, but with a vendor backing the GB, you get that last 1% peace of mind)

Im not so sure about tips from the internet, its gonna be a trial and error thing.
I basically asked help from a close friend who does PC Modifications. :D
Somewhere in reddit maybe? i have a close friend who mods PC components and asked him to do this for me coz doing it with an airbrush gives a better finish :thumb:

For a basic steel plate, scuff with scotch brite pads, wash with dish soap and water, let dry, spray primer, spray color. Depending on the finish you want, you can also add clear coat and/or wetsand with 1500-2000 grit to get various degrees of gloss.

You can't find primers, you can't find spray paints
You may be surprised, a Home Depot is near by and these guys here build cars for Ford, GM, BMW; they even "PAINT" them including the full thing, powder coating, and all. :p

I never really thought about darker heat shrink, but for that cable it would definitely look nice. Unfortunately it seems like it is just not readily available in many colors after some (very) brief research.

Yanbo (Massdrop dude who I gotta work with to make this a reality) has been in China for a couple weeks. However, he should be back soon (I got an estimate of a week from LSB) so I'm gonna say 10 days from yesterday is when I can start to make real progress with getting this set to production!

This is my layout, the blanks are for Cmd+Right-Fn spots
I press the 1.25 + 6.25 + 1.25 with my thumbs, since GMK/Cherry keycaps are a bit piercing/rough, I sand these 3 keycaps on the corners
So blanks are both "flexible modifiers" - and they are also sandable, without any risk
Ideally I would want 1.25 Cmd + Meta keycaps, but that's asking too much, I don't think some minor sanding can reach the double-shot part either, so the "sanding" is just what I do and not directly related with the keycaps being blank
While initially blanks were just an escape from the "Win" keycaps, now it's an addiction
Edit: And also, blanks were really useful when I used 1.25 keycaps as arrows too, when blanks are a separate add-on, I tend to buy a lot, I probably bought all the extra Cyan 1.25 Blanks from GMK Cyan :)

Instead of sanding, why don't you simply reverse the keycaps? I reverse every GMK spacebars I intend to use without palmrest.

I press the 1.25 + 6.25 + 1.25 with my thumbs, since GMK/Cherry keycaps are a bit piercing/rough, I sand these 3 keycaps on the corners
So blanks are both "flexible modifiers" - and they are also sandable, without any risk
Instead of sanding, why don't you simply reverse the keycaps? I reverse every GMK spacebars I intend to use without palmrest.
Because I like the profile, I just don't enjoy the piercing edges - +the injection points show up when you reverse :)

No, sorry :( People seemed more interested in the code / windows keys than blanks, so I added those. I feel I've done a good job of making sure this set has lots of compatibility, so the blanks were just kind of unneeded.
If I can gather interest in it, I will also run an Ergodox / Planck buy at the same time, but those would ONLY be blanks, since everyone using those layouts uses different key binds anyways.

It's also an issue when keys are put in baggies and sent in just bubble envelopes. The keys rub into each other en route which results in scratches. Of course, trays will cause this too if they're banged up, but the chances are much fewer.

That's the one.
My Skeletor set shipped in one and only one key was slightly misplaced. No scratches to be found anywhere. Certainly seems to be a big improvement over the TA trays.

So, I considered doing this but this set is already over 160 keys, with 2 custom colours. The set is already big, and I'm pretty sure adding more keys would make it exceptionally costly.

Had to make an account to say this, but yes, if international kits gets posted Im getting one for absolutely sure. As a norwegian I have a very hard time finding complete kits, so if there are kits that fit on offer, theyll probably sell.

I am currently working on a "smart" collection of keys that can be used by GMK GB designers to add a decent ISO-International support to their GB without much trouble and effort.
Since you already included most of the ISO-UK keycaps in your set, there are "only" 25 additional keys required to add very solid support for UK, Germany, Sweden, Norway and Denmark while also providing much improved but still only partial support for Spain, Italy and Portugal. Since ISO-International support has never been done before in a GMK GB, this would make any GMK GB with ISO-International support the more appealing to us ISO folks.

Depending on the MOQ we reach with this kit, I believe the markup for adding these keys should be <20$ even with just 150 sets, getting closer to 15$ the higher the MOQ gets. Still waiting for a statement from GMK but that's what I would expect with the experience from my recent GMK GB.
EDIT: So yeah while I'm well aware the chance these keys are considered for the current GB are slim I would still love to get some feedback from Brazzers. She's been through a lot of input in this GB and this is a very lovely and popular IC with the potential to reach high MOQ. Would be very interesting for me to hear her opinion about internationalizing a GMK GB.
EDIT2: Got a response from GMK regarding the potential markup when adding these keys to an exiting 100+ keys base kit and even with a 150MOQ the markup should be less than 20$!

This key set doesn't have a Colemak kit, it doesn't have apple keys. That's usually my requirement for buying an expensive (i.e. Not 35euros) set.

Actually, GMK could offer Colemark as well as SP, but they need much higher MOQ about 150.
The truth, higher MOQ of GMK , is the hindrance to make GMK's Colemak options.
Ofcourse, some new legends of Colemak layout is another hinderance to make that , since GMK has to create new molds for these keycaps, which higher up the cost of Colemak options.

I hope it isn't too much trouble to pick one of the existing GMK international kits and get a render from GMK in the Plum color scheme to offer it as an optinal add-on kit for the drop. This color scheme has the potential to reach numbers that can also tip an international kit!
The GMK Carbon international is a "full" international kit while the ISO essentials I have presented here before are a slim approach with a little bit of compromise.
Please apologize if this has been adressed before ...
If you don't want to deal with this but generally like the idea, I can assemble an international kit, send it in to GMK and deal with any questions they have to the point where you just have to approve it and provide it to Massdrop.

There is no such thing as a re-entry tax. You just don't understand how VAT works!
Shipping to MASSDROP outside the EU is TAX FREE for GMK
Shipping to anyone INSIDE the EU is TAXABLE
When Massdrop ships back to the EU, the TAX is collected. There is NO legal way to avoid this tax!!!!

Oblotzky hat natürlich recht. Massdrop ist ein gewinnorientiertes Unternehmen. Dass GMK Plum über Massdrop vertrieben wird, hatte ich bei meiner Antwort aus dem Fokus verloren. Aber unabhängig davon und unabhängig von der steuerlichen Behandlung halte ich es grundsätzlich für eine gute Idee, dass Waren, die in der Nähe produziert werden, nicht erst um den gesamten Globus verschifft werden müssen, um mich zu erreichen.

That's outright VAT fraud!
There are mechanisms in place to detect such behaviour. By participating in this EU VAT simplification process, you confirm that you are purchasing the product(s) AS A COMPANY and will register them with your local, national tax authorities. That applies to every business no matter where you are located. Certain purchases are done by myself through the accounts department depending upon what the items are, so as to not attract the attention of our accountants.
As long as the books are correct/equal then no need to worry about any purchases done this way :thumb: .

This is a fundamental misunderstanding. ANY order GMK ships to a location within the EU will be receive a 19% German VAT added on top.
When shipping to the US and back, the customs office will collect these 19% ... they are un-avoidable!
Some countries might have handling fees for customs, those could really be save but that will never be close to thousands of dollar ...

Great colour-ways are always loved no matter the situation. Besides when it comes to supreme ABS manufacturing GMK is hard to beat since they have the original moulds from Cherry Corp.
This Key-set looks great in a number of different coloured keyboards hence it is proving popular :thumb: .

What hyperfuse inflation? After the second round came out, aftermarket prices for Hyperfuse has come down now!
A lot of prices on hyperfuse have gone back up again. Especially after Originative sold out on the Round 2 sets.

Here's hoping for the 1k mark 😊I ran into a similar problem with skeletor on my hhkb. My solution was to get some white pbt spacebars and dye them with idyepoly, so they would match the set. I couldn't match the main colors of skeletor perfectly, so I made a green spacebar, which I think works well with the set.
Is anyone trying to get these on a Topre board, but don't have mx/topre spacebar housings? What are you all thinking of doing for the spacebar?

Yeah was considering getting dye for a pbt spacebar, but I also realized that it might also be possible to yellow the stock ABS spacebar :P
There was a thread awhile ago where someone yellowed a bunch of keys by leaving them in plastic in his backyard for a few months haha might be worth a shot, you've got the time before Plum ships =)

I know many people who can't afford something that will say it's over priced because they really wish they could get in on it; it's really an "if I can't have it, I'm going to belittle the product and those who buy it" attitude. Hey, so I can give you some context:
Basically, for GMK buys you will pretty certainly not see 1.5u R4 Fn modifiers become main stream. It's just too much of a niche key for a niche layout to really be able to justify including.
So, if you can get past the one wrong legend on your board, then I'd suggest hopping on the GB :) If it's too much of a dealbreaker, I'm not gonna say I blame you. <3

Update: GMK are sending me colour samples, I will be getting them shortly, I hope.
Can't wait to see the samples if you're able to post pics (not sure if there's any rules around this or if it's something that's typically done). Either way, I'm so glad I hopped on this buy. Didn't love the set at first, but the more I look at it, the more it grows on me. It's gotten to the point that I hop on the drop page a few times a day just to gawk at the keycaps. They are astonishing.
So excited for these to come in, you've singlehandedly got me interested in almost exclusively GMK sets. Great work!

While delays are sometimes unavoidable, there shouldn't be anything close to the cluster**** SA production queue which is causing delays with Godspeed and all of the other SA keysets.
I haven't been involved in a ton of GMK buys, but the three previous ones I entered all went very smoothly.

After deliberating between Plum and Coniferous, I bought in on Plum (AND Coniferous).
The colours look nice here, though I would say the yellow is already firmly in the yellow end. Take a look at the alternatives, but if I could choose a paler yellow - by even just a touch - I would.
I hope that influences your judgment in some way :p
Oh, and congratulations on the buy - 1230+ is no mean feat. Speaking of which, is there the chance of another price drop at 1250? :-*

I agree, always hard to tell from a single photo but the yellow as shown is about as saturated as I would want too. I am sure the production version will look amazing!

Even though I'm a heavy advocate of ANSI usage in ISO territory it makes me super happy to see MD and GMK both supporting and going the extra mile for international - it'll hopefully encourage more people to join in the future knowing that there's a good chance int. makes it despite pulling lesser numbers, that way it may have a better chance at steadily climbing and becoming more relevant.
I don't know how much money it is costing either of the companies to make that happen but if this can continue happening for a few more drops then maybe it'll actually be meaningful in the long run.

Basically, the intl set now gives plenty of complete support for EU people. Sorry French and Spanish speakers, you'll make it in next time. It's sort of funny though, English, French and Spanish are the only languages I can actually speak with any degree of success and yet I didn't even consider the latter two for intl kit support :P

First off, my camera and lighting sucks, so take the pictures with a grain of salt. The sample caps I got for the alphas are quite pale compared to penumbras, it seems. I'm aiming for something between what I've got now, and what's going on with penumbras.
Hopefully that calms some peoples mind. Basically, how it looks in the renders is how the set will really look.

I think it is too, but bare in mind a regular person will have to get some extra steps in with colour calibrating their monitor. A specialist colour calibrator cost money just to show accurate representation to someone. The modern device like a phone can take fairly alright accurate unmodified photos with decent lighting in this current age. If one is keen on colour accuracy, then I'm pretty sure one's screen is already regularly colour calibrated beforehand to view stuff on the web.

I worked with thesiscamper to make the renders look right, to me. I had no fixed hex codes or anything. Everything is fluid to get the colours right ;)

If you take a photo of it on a grey background or some grey card beside it, I can correct it for you.

The renders are listed specifically as "accurate colors" and were there to give buyers an idea of what the set was supposed to look like, according to Jessica. She stated several times that there was no "real" color she was using as a reference, just she knew what she wanted to accomplish and had the renders adjusted to show that.

Hey all,
decided to frigg around and try to take better pictures of Plum. I've got some promising results of the purple. The yellow is hard to capture due to my room having tan walls and me having yellow light bulbs, so it either looks too washed out or too pale. I think the pics I posted before do the yellow justice enough.
Focus on literally just the purple, everything else is not accurate.
Lemme know what you all think :)

I'm not saying it's a 100% perfect match, or that it needs to be, just that the "idea" of the set is very well reflected in the "muted" purple and is not even close to the "vibrant" purple.

I'm not saying his renders are terrible, they're great visual indicators, but they're not great colour comparisons as you know already, they're just produced to give eye pleasure.

That's ok if she does. At the moment, the results match the keyset sheet that she said she'd compare to and not the fancy renders. They're soft tones going by the photos and matches the keyset sheet from what I see.

Any mid-grey to white will work just as well for setting the color balance. The specific grey 80% tone used in greycards is used to set the exposure as well. While the exposure will affect saturation, without a color calibration target the saturation has to be set by hand anyway. It is also a lot easier to find some white paper with no inherent color (photocopy paper works well) when compared to grey papers and cards which usually have a bit of yellow mixed into them.You can get rid of the yellow cast easily by just having a piece of white paper in the picture and then instructing lightroom (or similar software) to calibrate ~90% white based on it. Best results would be had in natural light though.
Not white, it's grey.
edit: on page 13 the pictures were taken on a photocopy paper, here is how it would look with the color cast removed:

For accurate colors a color calibration target would be needed as well as high cri lighting.
