But they have outages every year, so those conversations must've always been going on.Not this long or this extreme.
unfortunately, AWS does make a lot of sense for a lot of businesses and is already a lot more reliable than other big cloud providers (looking at you azure) and does have competitive pricing for many products, as well as offers a ridiculous amount of managed services, so it's easy to see why everyone uses them. it does create a single point of failure, and while it doesn't fail often, it's definitely becoming more obvious whenever AWS takes a crap. well whatever, life moves onward yeah? It's not just a single point of failure, it creates a massive target.

well sadly i feel like the realist’s response to that is, what are ya gonna do about it. google and microsoft’s answer to aws is honestly trash, which is why aws has so much market share in the first place. all this stuff is like talking about the weather, it is what it is at the end of the day. i’d like to see some better options too though.
made a public utility.
Even monopolies can work well if they are properly and consistently regulated.only issue, they have enough money and weight to not have to care about regulations... already a few years back microsoft was going to be split up but ended up never doing it, same with the ruling that force them to not ship their browser with windows... now they even force you to use it
enough money and weight to not have to care about regulations
enough money and weight to not have to care about regulations
That is the signal that a democracy has broken down.
No. What year were you born?
A person who pretends to know what the world was like prior to their personal experience is an arrogant fool.
My monthly TP order, great.21st century: when a cloud outage is why your arse is dirty.Show Image(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211208/d4d6ec484258b1fb5418c8cbeb89bd35.jpg)
I'm not familiar with Google Cloud (and neither is anyone else it seems), but Azure is just a joke. I think it's just a way for Microsoft to pretend they are also a cloud provider and Azure never meant to actually work.
objective analysis
Microsoft is currently the 2nd or 3rd largest infrastructure and cloud provider (depending on who you ask), I'd say it's hardly a joke.
Had you asked me 6 months ago I'd have said the same thing as you but MS has quietly been building an empire while everyone was snickering.
