[IC] Squid60 60% WKL Keyboard (Formerly Bacca60)
« on: Tue, 23 June 2020, 11:07:04 »
I am excited to bring you the public buy of my first board, the Bacca60, renamed now the Squid60 designed by myself and BlindAssassin!

245630-0

I ran the original version of this board, the Bacca60, as a private group buy back in October of 2019 and finished up in late December-early January. After the run, I had numerous requests for this board to be run publicly. Due to COVID-19, I had to delay the public group buy but during this time I decided to make a name change.

Why Squid60 instead of Bacca60?
In early May, my dog Squid had to undergo and after two emergency surgeries lost his life. This was devastating to both me and my wife. All of this also happened while I was in the middle of a 24-hour stream for Mechs on Deck. The unfortunate side to this is that, not only did we lose our beloved dog Squid, we were also hit with a six thousand dollar vet bill. After discussions with many of my friends, the idea came to change the board up in honor of Squid and use the proceeds on this group buy to help pay off the vet bill.

The Original Run
The original run was, for the most part, successful with a few errors in the design.
We found that there were three problems with the board. We had an oversight with the inlays for bump-ons, the WKL blockers were misaligned slightly inward causing clearance issues with the Alt keys, and, due to the thickness of the blockers, some cases had a rattle due to the blockers vibrating the plate. All of these issues have been addressed and have been fixed for the next run.

Board Specs
60% WKL Aluminum Case
7 degree typing angle
Brass Plate
Brass Weight
Sandwich mount
Anodized Gray and Anodized Black color options
2361g/5.3 lbs Fully built

The Plate
Originally, the plate was designed to be a fixed plate with the only option being a stepped or regular caps lock. The plate has been revised to allow for a 2u backspace and a 2.75 right shift.
I am not offering ISO as this affects the plate cuts for split backspace and enter. At this time I do not have plans to release the plate file but this may change in the future. I will be releasing the plate file after all invoices are paid for the Group Buy.

PCB
This board is able to fit most standard 60% pcbs so I am not going to force you to buy a PCB if you already have a preference to the PCB you like, but I am offering the H60 by Hineybush to buy alongside your Squid60 and will be shipped in the same package. This will be an add-on during the buy. EDIT I forgot to mention this board only support TYPE-C PCBs. Sorry I forgot to mention this.

Pricing
The price of the board will be $360 For the case and plate.
PCB-Price TBD
Extra plates are $33
Shipping in the US will be $30

International Orders
I will be charging shipping for international orders at the time of shipment rather than Group buy due to inflated prices and shipping restrictions because of COVID-19. These Orders will ship after the US orders are completed.

I expect this board to take about 5-6 Months to complete. Join the Mechs on Deck discord and the Channel “Squid60 Group Buy”. I will give as many updates as I can on there while still updating as best I can on this thread as well. Join here- https://discord.gg/m6u3Udw

Group Buy
The Group Buy will go live on Saturday July 25th at 1pm CT. I have planned this to be a little far out to allow people to save any money that is needed for this buy. There will be 70 slots available at a FCFS basis. The Group Buy will be via a google form and invoices will be sent out via Paypal.

Glad to see this come around. I do hope you'll release the plate file, so us non-ANSI users can get something cut.

It's pretty, but man... it sure does look a lot like a TX board.  Not a bad thing, I have 5 of them :)

My first board that I really fell in love with was the TX60 so this board is heavily inspired by it.  Great boards but have their flaws. Basically set out to make a board that checks off all of my boxes and this is what became of it!

Does the mounting system allow for any sort of isolation? Can you install the plate with O-rings?

They would have to be thin as the tolerances are pretty snug in the board.

Hey everyone! So I have been getting a bunch of questions about the PCB.  It is not hotswap but will fit most standard 60% hotswap boards in the Tsangan layout. The KBD6x DOES NOT work though as it has 2 usb ports and will not fit in the case. I recommend the Instant60 if you are looking for a PCB  as this is 100% confirmed to work on this board.

Hey guys, I wanted to give a quick update. The response to the Interest Check was way better than I could have ever expected. I really appreciate the things you have said about the board. Due to the amount of responses, I am making a couple slight changes. I had originally capped the group buy at 50 boards, but I am increasing this to 70 boards for group buy. This allows me to do a few things.

This board is not meant to be exclusive. The more responses I got from the Interest Check, the more worried I was about people not being able to get it. Sadly, I do not own a large enough space to accommodate more boards than a 70 board run but, if i did, I would.

Upping this number also allows me to purchase more extras to make sure that everyone gets an A-stock board. During the original run, I had not purchased extras. Outside of the problems previously mentioned in the IC threads, only one board had QC issues. I want to do everything I can to ensure that everyone who gets in on the Group Buy is happy with their purchase.

I am working through some issues with the Google form, but everything will be ready to go by the Group Buy start date. I will most likely be taking a few extra forms so that I have a waitlist if people do not pay the invoice in time. If the invoice is not paid within 24 hours, that slot will go to the next person on the waitlist.

To clear a few questions up that I have received here is a quick FAQ:
-You can pick which color you want. I am not limiting how many boards of one color can be.
-The PCB from Hineybush is not hotswap, You will have to solder it but you are not required to buy this PCB. Tsangan layout hotswap PCBS will work except the KBD6x due to it having two usb inputs.
-Up to 4mm of foam will fit under the pcb
-I am not offering anything outside of WKL because that is not the way the board was designed. Maybe in future runs but at this time I have no plans.
Might add something about the plate files here as well. I know there were some questions about that.

Thank you again for the interest shown and the suggestions given.

Welcome to the Squid60 Groupbuy! Below are the details to the buy!

There are 70 spots available.

The Buy will include 1 case with brass weight and 1 brass plate for $360

You may add additional plates for $33 each.

This board fits most Standard 60% Type-C PCBs but if you want to include one in your order I have teamed up with Hineybush to offer the H60 PCB that you can add to your order for $40

Paypal fees will be added at the time of invoice.

United States Customers will pay shipping up front and your boards will be sent first upon the arrival of the boards after QC.  You will see an additional $30 on your order forms for the shipping charge.
International Customers will pay shipping invoices at the time of shipping.  These will be handled privately as shipping prices cannot be estimated at this time.

FILLING OUT THE FORM DOES NOT ENSURE A GROUP BUY SPOT
Unfortunately I do not have a way of capping the list to 70 spots but I will be allowing a little bit of rollover to the responses so that people who do not pay their invoices will simply lose their spot to the next person in line.  I will be posting a link of a list of Discord Usernames/GeekHack Usernames of the people that were the first 70 entries.  I will have a few extras at the end of the buy.

The board should take somewhere around 6 months to complete but as many of you know Group Buys can have unexpected delays. I will be sure to keep you as up to date as I can on these boards on both the Discord and the Geek Hack Thread.

Thank you again for your interest in the board.  I hope you know when I say that I am extremely humbled that you all are willing to buy this board and help me out during the tough time after the loss of my dear friend Squid.

The form is currently locked at this time.  It will go live tomorrow at 1pm CT Saturday July 25th

Good Luck!

I really want this board and to support Chewwy, but I have spent too much money recently to be able to make another big purchase. I would put my Holy Pandas in it. I know it's going to be good with Tactiles if Chewwy designed it. And I don't think I have ever heard anyone have a single complaint from the Bacca. When it sits on the desk of streamers that have tried tons of boards its got to be good.

I'm not sure what it is, but the stuff you guys work on turns out much to my liking.

Love the sides of this board and that grey. Nice bezel size too.

Not really my kind of layout though. Ahh well. Good luck with the GB when it opens tomorrow. Hope not too many people end up without and disappointed, but I can see that happening.

Text font on the weight looks a bit weird but maybe that's just me. Other than that, it's a great looking keyboard!
