Bought a 360 for a cool 100.00
« on: Wed, 08 September 2010, 09:30:11 »
I had a PS3, then a 360, then a WII, then back to a PS3 and now when I sold my PS3 I was left without a DVD player so I decided to go on CL looking for an old XBOX and what I came upon was a MINTY MINTY MINTY 360 with 4 games and a boxed Guitar Hero World Tour.

The wife approved seeing as DVD players or BD PLayer go for 100.00 she said it was ok.

I am stoked!! I am back into Modern Gaming

Lidl sells great DVD players for about half that price.

The PS3 as a BluRay player is surprisingly good.

also, the PS3 DOESN'T have XBL. That is a GOOD thing, IMO.

Xbox 360 has BluRay drives ready to go.

What's with PC burners.  Taking forever to reach decent prices for burners and media.

Damn, those Blu-Ray drives have been in MS' warehouse for quite awhile.

PC burners probably aren't seeing adoption since hard drives are cheap.  Most people that would have been burning their own discs are now just ripping to hard drives and playing them from their PCs.  IMO, it's still not a substitute for having a physical copy, though.

I was going to say that I am green with envy... but I see you meant the wrong kind of 360.

I'm with Quadibloc, the IBM 360 is way cooler than the BillGatesBox 360.
Why do all of those old videos always have someone speaking in that same tone of voice? Couldn't they have chose someone else with a different voice?
It's weird how old cliches really start to "date" things.

The best use for a PS3 is a grill:
Not a valid youtube URL

Too bad it doesn't have any good games to play while it's grilling some steak to entertain guests.

Even if it did have good games, the controllers can cause a "numb thumb," playstation controllers are the only ones which made my hands hurt from playing only a little bit. And they BOAST about keeping the same design too! It's the stupid analog sticks... make them better.

But even then, I play excessively and on other consoles my hands were fine.

XBOX controllers are techincally doubleshot too:

The top part of the buttons is another injection of clear plastic. So what you get are cool embossed shapes covered with clear plastic. Looks better than the playstation I think. Easier to see since each whole button is a different colour, rather than thinly outlined silly shapes.

These pieces of madcatz trash hurt the hands for other reasons than playing a game:

The side "grips" are just hard plastic, they dig into the skin after awhile (regardless if you're mashing buttons or not). Idiotic design. I think they have some with rubber now... but still, only a complete idiot who never understood ergonomy would make that.

PSN is conceptually better than XBL by leaps and bounds.

Yeah, it is better in practice too, after a slow start.

i'm fine with the ps3 controllers.  the 360 controllers are okay as well.  either one is better than the wii controller.

anyway, on topic, that's a nice purchase, depending on what version of the 360 the topic creator got

This is a better video; the front panels of several models in the System/360 line are visible.

At 0:38, we see a Model 20.
At 1:05, there is a brief glimpse of a model 75.
At 1:08, we see a Model 40.
At 1:36, we see another Model 40, and for a while after we see several of them, apparently on the production floor.
At 1:54, we get a rare glimpse of the seldom seen Model 85.

What about Granny?  She wants to see my Japan trip in HD 1080p.

Lol - here is Steve Balmer on 10/2009 saying BluRay Any Day Now!

Quote
BLU RAY BLU RAY BLU RAY BLU RAY BLU RAY!

Steve Ballmer is so cool, I think he's one of the best people ever. Better than that boring dull simplistic Steve Jobs:

Although it's interesting Jobs wore formal suits early on, but later changed to basic simplistic clothing. That shows he's really taking on minimalism... which is OK in some situations. But it seems like it's consuming his life... he wants his vision of simple computers to become mainstream and used everywhere: what poor Steve doesn't realize is that he's just making repackaged PC-clones. Made in the same factory. But I guess that's what happens when you're too focused on something, you loose perception in the real world.

Apple stuff truly is a package that removes all the options and tweakings: what you're left with is minimum customization. Reminds me when StarDock attempted to make themes for OSX & Jobs had a hissy fit: "no! You can't make skins for my interface that overuses gradients and gigantic shadows!"

Nobody likes Steve Ballmer, even his mom.

Now I KNOW you're just trollin'.

That's mean! Put some lip balm on those lips, don't insult the Ballmer!

Trolling is in the eye of the beholder.
