Hi geekhackers,
Does anyone know which kind of switch the cherry g80-3700 uses? I intend to buy one to abuse as a poor man's Belkin n52. Its layout isn't too good to serve as an FPS controlling device, but for my needs (I mainly play DotA, a Warcraft 3 custom map) it might be just fine.

Thanks, do you have any experiences with that kind of switch regarding gaming?

And on another note, I have been trolling ebay lately to grab some Model Ms. As I'm looking for them on ebay Germany, most of them are UK-made. Is there any qualitative difference between US Ms and UK Ms? And should I buy the grey labeled ones over the blue labeled ones?

Thanks for your replies.

Thse switches are non-tactile (and not clicky, for that matter), and gamers, in general, like that.  I don't think they would be my favorite for general typing duties as I prefer tactile switches.  That, and Cherry blacks are fairly stiff, though that would matter less for gaming than typing, IMO.  Deck and Steelseries keyboards use Cherry blacks, and they are marketed to gamers with a fairly strong following.

Just curious but what's the actuation point for the blacks?  Partially depressed or all the way down?

The 3700 doesn't seem any cheaper than the n52... in some cases it's more expensive...
Can't get enough of them ALPS

From experience, get the n52.  It kicks a*s.  Move with the d-pad, and use the buttons for whatever.  It helped my game tremendously since I had more controls at my fingertips, and I didn't have to waste keys on movement.  I don't game anymore, though.  I like to go outside and play these days. :)

I have the ML version of the 3700 called the 4700, to be honest they are not easy to program, the n52 is developed by belkin uses decent rubber domes some one says and is much more easier to configure each button especially if you buy the Razer version as their drivers are usually decent and the razer version also lights up.

Thanks everyone for your input.
I can't seem to find the classic n52 at a decent price anymore, just the newer version n52te (produced by razer iirc), which has worse keys according to some reviews. Don't need the d-pad anyway since RTS games are the only ones I play.

D-pad is useful to traverse the map quicker in RTS, once you get used to it you will reduce the amount of scrolling you do ;-) Alternatively you could search for a MS Strategic Commander

I still own this piece of kit, and to be honest it is not being used, keys light up and feels nice in the hand but in the end i just preferred using a full size keyboard to complement my mouse.

I can get the 3700 for very cheap. Good point about the d-pad though. Maybe Saitek's and Logitech's counterparts of the n52 deserve a shot too. Anyone here able to give a brief review on them?

All Cherry MX switches have overtravel. Actuation point is at 2mm.
