I just started watching this last night.  Had it on in the background and mildly surprised that it's actually pretty entertaining.

Rotten Tomatoes' entry on The Orville is funny. 27% critic score (only 5% from "Top critics") but a 94% audience score.

87% Tp4 approved..

The only slight drawback, is the few instances of gross toilet humor that seth is iconic for.. But, heck, let's call that his charm.

I knew a professional critic... It's amazing they can appreciate any movie.
He was usually too busy thinking about the audience would perceive it, looking for flaws and just over analyzing it. When i asked him, he couldn't remember the last movie he just sat back and enjoyed. He pretty much ruined what little respect I had left for critics.

While I could go without, at least he tries to inject some humor, something Trek often lacked.

Ahh, I immediately thought it was a series about the popcorn guy :))

Ever read The Road To Wellville? That actually could be an interesting series if given room to breath.

Went from the piss episode to the egg episode, how do humans seem to find the weirdest aliens?

Dang.... As extremely awkward as the last few episodes have been ... Orville continues the journey in the Finest Trek Tradition..

Tackling Real social issues, diffusing hostility with humor, and resolving the conflict through clear communication..

Good stuff.. !!

Hrrrrmm....

Honestly,  The typical TV/Movie trope about Machines learning to LOVE / Experience Human emotions.

This is unrealistic and born of human self-importance..

Assuming an Advanced AI replicant has become sentient, and even expanded into a race of their own..  It seems unlikely that they'd have no concept which parallels the simplicity of Human-Human-Love-Coupling.

If anything, They would only have significantly MORE efficient interlock subroutines, rather than the Animalistic variety which has proven to be inaccurate, and only designed to produce narrow results within short production windows..

Oh man.. Orville, this episode, lots of weird stuff still..  but also hitn' that Trek Spot..    I can't believe how much m0ar trek this is than Trek Discovery..

Adrianne Palicki is not aging well though.. totes obachan..

On the one hand, yea, her age comes with more acting experience.  But then her character is suppose to behave much younger than -she looks-.. hrrrm..

Not sure why they don't just go in and cgi her younger,  perhaps that's not in the budget..

Hahahahaha. . Zomg, they got this new creature this episode, kick ass.. won't spoil for y'all, hahahaha

Wow,  season 2 epi 11,

What an excellent update to the tired holodeck tropes..

At this point we can call it,   Orville is the True successor to Star Trek.

I just finished watching (literally today) ALL of Star Trek.  It took me close to 2.5 years--I'm just glad there's more.  Cuz I've heard that Discovery ain't it.

I've heard that the animated series (watched that too) does cartwheels over Discovery.  Even with Arex the three armed last minute replacement for Chekov.  Bummer.

Discovery is something else entirely,  it is NOT Star Trek.

AT MOST, we can say Discovery is similar to a non canon spin-off comic.

Excellent episode..  Yet more Trek than discovery.

Seth-M is not super deep. But given how much distance Trek has already gone, we don't have to go that much further to be very new and interesting.

That's really what Seth is great at,  Just going that Small increment, and applying new perspective..

Fantastic series so far.

I've struggled with that myself. Some people aren't good at giving and indication either way.
Not sure there's anything to gain by stressing too much over it.
