How is the red color option, the entire thing or just the bottom?

if there's only 1 color listed in the option, it's the whole board

Screw-in stabilisers are included

(hopefully they don't bridge anything lmao)

Does the angle and dimensions match the numpad listed here? https://kbdfans.cn/products/kbdfans-pad-custom-mechanical-keyboard-diy-kit?variant=2533925158925

Would be interested in a set if they lined up perfectly (and there was a matching grey color option).

I don't mind mini-usb :)

I would prefer mini as well since it's more accessible and wouldn't require me to go out and buy new cables.

I wrote to them to ask why my tracking number wasn't working, and I got the following reply:

Quote
A bad news, unfortunately, the PCB factory data appear problem, PCB can work, but the location of the stabilizer error, deviation of 1 mm, so we decided to scrap the PCB urgently, to produce a batch of PCB, so shipment will extend at least one week, I'm very sorry!

So, not quite ready yet, unfortunately. But hopefully they get it redone quickly and sent out soon. I'm glad they're testing it out fully before shipping. I'd hate to have that problem discovered after the board arrived.

Indeed, someone has received the shipment with the defective PCB. This person appears to be the one who reported the issue back to Wei. Though, the case looks great and is hefty at 5.1 lbs! The Redditor mentioned that the shipment didn't include any LEDs for indicators. So I asked Wei whether he can include a few LEDs in three different colors, perhaps, red, blue and green, because I would be forced to purchase 50, 70 or even 100 of each color of LEDs otherwise. He said he will include a few LEDs in each shipment. Not sure which color will be shipped however. He clarified that 3 V, 1.8 mm or 3 mm LEDs will work. Also, he's still waiting on the re-manufactured PCBs and is hoping everything will be shipped within a week.

I got a shipping notification from DHL, but I wasn't sure what it was for (I've ordered a couple things from China that it could conceivably be, but was hoping for this one, of course).

My shipping says it's arriving Friday (in the US) by end of day. That, I find hard to believe, as it's still in China on Wednesday. But who knows. In any case, excited to get my hands on it!

Mine arrived yesterday (in Australia, shipped on Sunday).

Got a black base and dark grey top WKL variant. Anodizing on it is super nice.

Came with two plates, a black aluminium one and a steel one.

No LEDs in my shipment unfortunately.

1.8mm LEDs should be super easy to source locally for pretty cheap, they're very common

but also i'm sure kbdfans would be able to ship you some if you really need

The fixed models have started shipping out some days ago, surefire way to check is to just mount all ANSI stabs

Just built my KBDFans KBD8X with some German Dyesubs and 60g Skidata MX Clears. The right Shift and Fn are from Enjoy PBT and unfortunately don't exactly match the Cherry dyesubs. Does anybody know a good source for keys that match the original better?

Got mine today, very excited! But I'm new to custom keebs, not to mention QMK programming and customization. I've done numerous phone and router flashing. So I would imagine actual flashing process won't be too difficult. However, as for building my own hex file, so far I've figured out how to use QMK builder to assign custom keycodes to specific keys in multiple layers. But I am still so confused as to what I need to do with pin outs and wiring. Could anyone please help me with this or point me in the right direction? I would like to configure mine to have the following layout.

195194-0

EDIT: NVM! After testing out the PCB, I found that I will need to make just 2 small changes to the keymap for it to support the layout I want.

Man... who the hell screwed the case together before shipping... 2/6 tiny little screws look stripped. They have in the really deep recess too so not even sure on how to disassemble it.

Edit: finally got it removed, but man that was not easy...

I had a similar issue with one screw in the back where the recess is very deep. It was screwed in very very tightly. And due to the small size and deep recess, I was lucky to have a screwdriver that fit. And I had to use pliers on the screwdriver to get enough leverage to turn the screw. Thankfully it did come out and I got he case apart. But yeah, I think the anodizing must have coated the threads and made them extra stiff.

Wei, I see that round 3 will have gem stones embedded in the led hole instead of the laser indicator. What makes this a good idea and can they be removed?

Please Wei, i would like to get another 8X, but not with those crystals. Can it be removed? Will next rounds, if there are, have those crystals too?

I only bought one just to find out if it could be done. Turns out they put the stones in before anodizing and the holes are tapered with glue on the inside. All you have to do is punch them out from the back side and then drill the holes to remove the taper.

Looks good with rgb indicators.

Yeah this thing looks awesome. Hopefully they do a similar refresh on their tofu lineup with big brass weights on the bottom and more standard layouts like a full size backspace and non split right shift.

What is the use of RGB underglow? All bottom are alu.  :p

Hope there is an option too to not have an engraving in the brass weight.

I read in another post that there may be plans for a polycarb bottom and maybe even a top. Wouldn't make much sense for that underglow without it to be honest

There's a new very short video that showed up for a MKII version.

At first glance it seems like a few changes were made so you'll have to wait and see if it's still to your liking I suppose but something new is coming. At least it seems so.

Delivery will continue today.

Kbd8xmkii is delayed because the brass plate is not perfect. Last week we went to the factory specially. We will take out the perfect brass plate first and deliver it. There is basically no problem on the case,Thank you very much for your patience.

They could ship all kits then ship better plates separately, but I guess that would generate more costs.

Cost more and could be larger chance of receiving a really bent/warped plate.

Okay, figured out my flashing problems (thanks to QMK guys). Bootloader is DFU instead of AVR.

The board is really nice. I'm not completely blown away by (Massdrop) Holy Pandas though, beside the point as that is. They are not nearly as smooth as my Zealios.

Regardless, hoping to take some good pictures of it soon ish.

If you haven't cleaned them out already the lubing on them is very inconsistent. I had some that felt so sluggish and slow on the upstroke from over lubing and some that had barely any lube.

So I've heard. I haven't done anything to clean them out or relube them, and since they are all soldered in now I don't have immediate plans to do so.

Maybe some day in the future I'll do so, but it honestly irritates me that I have to at all.
