When I hear about the GeekHack exclusivity I knew this post was going to happen. Hopefully it gets people actively engaged in the forums.

Haha, yeah, I saw this coming from a mile away. RedditHack was inevitable.

I've never been demiking before - is any special equipment required?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Another question: when this timeout is over and posts count again, are we suddenly going to get credit for all the posts in countable areas that we've made during the timeout?

Or does it really only count posts actually posted when not in timeout?

Just forget about the post count brothers. Imagine you are at DT where post count does not count, at all.  :p

If you want to check it, go to Profile>Show Post and check the last page, there you will have your total post, nobody cares about it, nobody can see it, but you.

Everybody can see that as well, I just tried and saw you're at 5098. Either way I don't mind the post count being stopped, it doesn't stop me from posting.

I share the same feeling, I will be posting, no matter what, and trying each time to add something to the conversation, at least a smile some times. The only case I avoid to post is when what I can say may not add anything to the conversation.

I try my best to continue the conversation or add some benefits as well. Even asking questions can be beneficial for some threads like ICs and GBs as long as the same question wasn't already asked. I won't lie though, when I first started posting here I didn't really know what to post and would leave the occasional "interested" and such. The longer you stay on Geekhack the more you start to appreciate it, the more you want to contribute, the better your posts become.

GH is a very good reading and writing exercise, while you are expanding your keyboard knowledge, so I enjoy it greatly. Keep posting, each time you will be getting better.

Looks like the answer is a no, with posts counting now I haven't seen anybody's jump a significant amount. At least it helped filter a lot of nonsense in the forums. :thumb:

There's no way to make them jump like that, so it will just effectively be a "dead zone" of posting that didn't count.

I figured as much, doesn't really bother me either way. My overall post count can always be seen if need be. Now we just need to find a better way for artisan raffles.

Keep the death zone forever, nobody will care about it after a few months, it will just be a reminiscence of the past; consider that, some brothers at DT happily live with no post counting at all, let's follow the example.

Another question: when this timeout is over and posts count again, are we suddenly going to get credit for all the posts in countable areas that we've made during the timeout?

Or does it really only count posts actually posted when not in timeout?

I'm honestly wondering this my self. I've been trying to immerse my self here without spamming useless crap. Yes I do want to reach the 50/100 post cap to get to partake in Bro's sales, but i'm not spamming my way there.

Looks like the answer is a no, with posts counting now I haven't seen anybody's jump a significant amount. At least it helped filter a lot of nonsense in the forums. :thumb:

There's no way to make them jump like that, so it will just effectively be a "dead zone" of posting that didn't count.

So we are live again?  Out of timeout?

Just thinking of new members who might like to create a thread in classifies one day.

What a crazy forum management issue.

Most forum software have a minimum word count that can be set for a post to even be submitted.  I just set that high enough so that a real thought has to be written out for a post to even be submitted.  Never really had an issue with the post count bloaters even when I did giveaways that were based on post count.

I think it more has to do with people not really caring about the community and just wanting the caps. It looks like their theory is to just spend a day on geekhack, build up enough posts, and only care about the bros. Some people it seems like have ended up staying because they enjoy it here so at least we got a few new members that will be staying. :thumb:

I'm new here, but reading the thread I get the feeling that everyone really wants to keep some parts of geekhack (almost) exclusive. Spamming in a PSA thread about spamming pretty much says "we don't care about you noobies, get off my lawn!". Just my 2 cents, as someone who is a newcomer.

How about just a portion of the keys made to be sold to outsiders, like maybe 10 out of a hundred or something. "Get your scraps here kids!" Probably a bad idea, but the current one isn't really that great.

It's not that everyone wants to keep some parts of Geekhack exclusive. Bro Caps deciding he only wants to sell his artisan caps to Geekhack members, and only those with a certain number of posts, doesn't exactly reflect the attitude of "everyone" toward newcomers.

Also, new members spamming threads with useless posts to reach a goal of a certain number of posts doesn't exactly give others a good impression of them. It marks them as a "spammer." I believe Bro Caps' intent was to get more enthusiasts to come to Geekhack, and for them to engage in conversation here.

Bro Caps is already popular with redditors and other communities though, if they wanted to contribute here they would have done so before. Their desire for an artisan cap and the post count requirement only invited lots of spammers, which is what the forum has to deal with now. Just sharing my thoughts.

I too am new(er) here, I lurked for a long while before actually joining and conversing. The "get off my lawn" mentality isn't really a specific thing here, but that of any forum/board from the beginning of ever. Other boards i've been a part of have those members who joke about those who are newer and/or not knowing of inside jokes. It happens, don't let it bother you. See through it and most members will except you at some point and time.

As far as Bro goes, yes I think that was his point, but it didn't come across as that to quite a few  people. Oh well, live and learn and continue on.

Just to be clear I'm not questioning BroCaps' motivation, the intention was good but the execution could have been better is what I'm saying. I don't pretend to know how it should have been done, and I don't really want to think about it since I'm not the one who has a say in it.
