Question about Leopold FC980C AECX01
« on: Tue, 23 October 2018, 10:23:44 »
Does this board use actual Topre switches?  I just recently discovered this keyboard by accident doing a Google search.  When you sort by switch on Mechnicalkeyboards.com and choose Topre it doesn't come up.  The keyboard is listed as having "Electro Capacitive" switches which is a term the clones usually get.  I assume based on the price and a couple of the reviews they are real but just want to make sure as I could easily see people using the word Topre even when clones are involved.

980c and 660c are indeed both topre 45g, though the 660c feels stiffer than my RF in a nice way.

One interesting thing is I actually emailed mechanicalkeyboards about this and this was their response.

"Our current stock is still made with Topre switches, but Leopold has recently been seeking to change by whom these switches are made"

I thought that was interesting.  I am not sure that change would go over so well with people but I guess I am not sure.  I know for me personally I pay the premium for the actual switches.

This is very interesting to me, as I’m looking to pick up an FC980C. Thanks for sharing.

so there might be a chance these are Topre-clone?
