What the heck are Bards?
« on: Tue, 07 October 2014, 16:19:23 »
This is a question you might have asked yourself in the past few weeks. I'm here to answer it for you. I tried to write this in verse but it was crap, so here's my hastily re-written post.

The Bards is a group conceived in the minds of the GH admins, and then fleshed out and led by myself. Initially, I'm accompanied by Vibex and Input Nirvanna, but the team is ever-expanding.

The Bard's primary job is to serve as community pillars/community managers. The Bards also have a few other jobs, such as welcoming new users, and handing out custom titles.

Basically, if anyone (especially new users) have general concerns, questions, or complaints, send them to one of us. That's pretty much all we're supposed to do. We won't delete your double posts, but we will put funny text above your avatar.

Speaking of which, if you want a custom title, you can get one just by asking in this thread. I'll hand them out until roughly 10 PM EST tonight. After that, it becomes a secret ;D secrets only :D

Thanks,
-TS

P.S. We don't have the power to give out stars at the moment. If you have any star-related issues, PM HoffmanMyster. He's the designated star guy for now.

Excellent.
I'm guessing that part does not allow for exclamation marks does it? It was a reference to Macross 7's fictional band Fire Bomber!!

Actually, another job we've got is to make sure a discussion gets started internally to make sure anything important gets looked at.

Basically, if you think that X user is irritating and send us a message, it's not something we're going to look at. If you think that we should add a rule for something, if it's not something totally absurd it'll probably get brought up internally. I'll usually take it upon myself to do that.

And as always, if you think something is moving too slowly, shoot a PM to a Bard, and we'll see what we can do.

You know, Tact, every time I saw you post since you got the title added, I thought of this. :|

My vote was for "The Clerics" but others seemed pretty adamant about "The Bards"

Can't win everything, I guess.

So basically the demi-mods of GH, but with no actual power.

Doesn't SpAmRaY do most this stuff, but without the fancy title?

I feel like Rowdy does, as well.  I always see him answering questions and welcoming the new people.

Yes, definitely.

If this were a nominations thread, I'd nominate both of them.

I feel like Ray wouldn't want the "official" responsibility though...

If his current custom title is any indication, you would probably be correct, sir. :))

Rowdy was asked, but declined.

I think someone may have asked Ray, but it wasn't me. There's a long discussion about this.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Can I please have the title of "Grand Master Wizard Pizza"? Thanks! And it is excellent that you guys are here to help people. It took me about 3 months of lurking to figure out the way the whole forum works and other parts.

Back in my day we had to wait months to get a custom title :p
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

lol this is the dumbest **** ever.

so to have my concerns ignored i send it to you, who sends it to a mod, who sends it to an admin just for all to ignore.

what a waste of time.

Can't win everything, I guess.
so just a middle man with a title and can change users titles. im failing to see why this is needed other than brown nosing being involved.

ripster, if youre reading this. holy **** you were right all along.
No, he’s not around. How that sound to ya? Jot it down.

1) There's your title. It's neat.

2) One of the proposed ideas was to have a permanent thread for custom titles. A few people were fairly against it, but we compromised at having a temporary one to introduce the bards. There's a secret way to get one whenever you want, though...

Maybe I need to work on my font configs, because that's just a bunch of squares.

This thread is primarily intended to be informational (and for handing out titles).  As such, if you have a problem with the new position and want to discuss this, please send me a PM.  I don't intend to try to bury those opinions, but this thread is simply not intended for that purpose.  As most of you know, I am always happy to chat with people about rules and other similar topics, and PMs are the most appropriate channel for that.   :thumb:   Thanks guys.

P.S. We don't have the power to give out stars at the moment. If you have any star-related issues, PM HoffmanMyster. We've arbitrarily designated him as the star guy for now.

Whoa, whoa, I volunteered!  Ain't no one pushin' me around!  :P

Nope.  :P  I read both the "stars? we have stars?" and "post your milestone" threads very regularly, so I'm up to date on where people are at.  I figured it just made the most sense for me to do it, plus it's fun!    ;D
