HHKB Pro White/Grey with Blank Key
« on: Mon, 31 January 2011, 00:19:10 »
Hi, I am unfortunately letting go of my HHKB Pro.  I completely love the Topre switch, but I just simply cannot use a blank keyboard, so I am going to let it go to someone who would actually appreciate it.  It is in very good condition despite the age, few years old.  The previous owner told me that this unit spent most of its time in storage, so it essentially looks very new.  Comes with detachable cord, PS adapter, original box, and the keyboard itself.  Asking $180 shipped CONUS.  PM would be best.

Sorry about the dust, should've dusted it off before taking pictures.

It won't be that bad. Just takes a little getting used to.

yes it is faster to learn than i thought it was. You just have to accept to type slower for some days, and use the basckspace touch more often ;-)

De plus stickers are fine...

The big problem is the blank keys on the HHKB layout.  If you are not familiar with the HHKB layout, you are going to have a hell of a time adjusting without legends.  That seems to be the number one reason why newcomers to the HHKB end up not liking it.

Also, for people that have complex (read: good) passwords, having blank keys sucks.  Since you don't have any visible feedback on the screen, people often look at their keys when entering passwords.  When you take both away, it gets frustrating.

I like having the legends on the keys. I don't look down often as I type, but a quick glance at the keyboard on occasion restores memory and confidence.

GREAT DEAL!!  My HHKB is blank and I love it.  Somebody should definitely jump on this.

Glad to see you aren't getting rid of your ONLY HHKB bigpook.  And...congrats on 3000 posts.  :)

Pook, iMav, if you happen to have a "spare" Realforce around, you might want to swap the domes from it into your HHKB.  After I did this to mine, the HHKB is a dream not to mention very light.  Taking the additional spring out the spacebar helps, too.

Like peanut butter and chocolate. I wish I had the HHKB form factor with BS keys.

No RealForce for me. Came close more than once though : )

I just took the spring out of the spacebar on the HHKB and am giving that a go.
If I had a RealForce to play with I would try that mod out.

We're talking night and day.  Huge difference.  Still, I wish mine had Cherry browns.  The KBC 40% looks promising.

I sold mine sometime back.  I'm glad I did.  I am going to check out the Leopolds when they come in.  I also bought a Noppoo, and it's a beast.  I think it's about time for a "Fire Sale."

I liked the Filco, only wish the keycaps were better. I am also waiting for EK to start stocking the Leopolds, at least I think he is going to.

It should be later this month.  The Leopolds are using a different material for the key caps, so they should be better.

No. There is no problem with the spacebar on the HHKB. I was playing around with it this morning and removed the spring. I put the spring back as I like the feel of it better that way. Personal pref on that one.

No.  Topre has a "reinforcing" spring on their 'boards (both Realforce and HHKB) to stiffen the spacebar a bit.  You can remove it to lighten the resistance.  I like to remove it on the HHKB, because I think the HHKB's space is too stiff.  I don't remove it on the Realforce, because the spacebar is fine and the spring gives it a more solid feel.

Like pook said, it's a preference thing.

It lowers the resistance by about 5g. or so.  It also helps stabilize the key.  On the HHKB, it doesn't really do much, so I take it out for the lower resistance.  On the Realforce, it gives the key a more solid feel when you press it.  I like the more solid feel on the Realforce, so I leave it in.

Keep in mind, this isn't the spring under the dome, it's a seperate spring right under the key cap.

Yes, removing the spring on the spacebar of the HHKB is trivial.

Whoa, so many posts here.

Despite it all, this thing is still for sale!  Have had a few PM's asking for lower, but I think my current price is fair.

FYI, this does come with a printed legend of the keys as shown in the pictures.
