Theca can be mounted in two ways: Top Mount or Gasket Mount.
Unlike most other gasket mounted boards, Theca utilizes custom injection moulded silicone gaskets to achieve a smooth and flexible typing experience, accompanied by the recessed areas on the bottom case for increased flex.
 
After manufacturing and testing prototypes using different gasket thicknesses, I am extremely satisfied with the resulting typing feel and flex. Gaskets will be available in only 1 hardness: 20A Durometer (Black). Due to the lack of adhesive between the gaskets and plate/case, harnesses can be seamlessly installed and swapped without frustration or clean-up.
 
As well as this, Theca can also be mounted to the top case using 8 screws for a more classic typing feel.

For Theca, we will be offering an addon kit for topre compatible parts, this kit will include PCB, plate, standoffs and screws. Designed by the Talented Cipulot, this pcb allows for multi-layout options including 7u & 6.25u bottom rows along with stepped and regular capslock. Above are some pictures of the PCB with artwork by Rubrehose!

This premium carry case included with Theca has been designed to make it easy to place and pick up boards with wide side openings for hands. This bag uses two custom moulded eva parts to hold Theca while also separating extra parts such as plates, PCBs and extra gaskets. Sponge foam has been adhered to the top of the case to prevent damage during shipping and daily use.

Again, pricing has not been decided but this is 2.8kg built with 2 different weights and 3 different materials depending on configuration.

Hello, Just wanted to answer a few questions and some feedback from the IC form.

1. This board will not be offered in F13, only F12.

2. Soldered will be the default PCB, Hotswap will be available as an add-on.

3. KLC will be the only vendor of this board.

4. More plates will be added and tested. So far we have: Aluminium, Carbon Fiber & FR4. PC and POM are still being decided.

5. Half plates will also be available, still haven't decided on what materials, no plastic ones will be offered.

6. No polished weight options will be added.

7. No more colours options will be added.

8. Winkey option will be available, depending on interest it may be only available in certain colours.

9. Thank you for the great interest in the topre kit. Currently the prototype plate is being made and the pcb is still in the design phase. After testing we will see if  it can be offered with this board.

Update 30/5/22:

We have decided to only include 30A hardness for the gaskets due to the harder 50A gaskets feeling the same as top mount and with the compression, its much harder to assemble the case.

We will also remove the internal mounting point due to the interference of Topre housings. Instead we have chosen to use a magnet for the middle screw point. All the other screws will remain unchanged.

4 colours are currently mentioned, Black and E-Beige are confirmed but are still deciding between silver and brown (currently tied on IC form)

Yes it does now! as long as the pcb has a jst connector it should be fine, havent tried any south facing stabs though.

Yes it is, that was the first prototype of Rotor and it wasn’t perfectly matched to the correct pantone. Here is the link the final prototype that is patched well.

KBD67 lite and many other boards that use silicone gaskets had an extremely stiff feel and the silicone did not help the boards in the slightest, how is the flex on this board?

Hello, from some googling I’ve found that KBD67 line is mounted from a layer of silicone throughout the plate that acts as a plate dampener aswell as the mounting gaskets. This pad looks very stiff and is a very different method of mounting compared to how Theca is mounted. Theca’s gaskets are 30A durometer which is quite flexible as well as them being several mm thick on each sides. From typing on theca with the carbon fiber plate, there isn’t too much flex considering it is a stiff material but I will definitely try it again with PC, POM and FR4.

Note: Kit doesn't include PCB, KLC will be stocking both Hotswap and Soldered PCBs on their store. The board will come with Daughterboard and JST Cable. The board is also compatible with most 87 layout PCBs that have a JST Connector.

You will be able to choose between Stainless Steel and Brass for the external weight, the internal weight is brass and cannot be changed. All weights are clear coated.

Plates: Aluminium, Carbon Fiber and PC will be available in Full Plate.
Black Ano will have a RED Alu Plate
E-Beige and Brown will have a Black Alu Plate

- 20A hardness gaskets have ordered and will be tested against current 30A gaskets.
- Photos of the Topre PCB have been uploaded onto the IC with updated information about layout options.

Hello, since the pcb is not included in the kit. I think that many people would buy 3rd party pcbs or the ones currently instock on KLC's store. however we will consider adding the artwork to a pcb for theca! Thanks for the suggestion

I was wondering how reconfiguration of keymap and calibration can be done on the topre kit, or if they are necessary.  Thanks.

Hello, the topre PCB will be flashed with VIA and VIAL where you can remap. I'm not 100% sure about calibration, but the board has been tested to set the correct values.

Hey, there wont be a build stream but i can take photos while building and try to make a sound test after.
Also
Theca GB will start on November 16th and be open for two weeks, closing on the 30th. GB may close early if soft cap is met.
