Leopold FC750PD switch replacement
« on: Fri, 19 October 2018, 05:37:04 »
Hey everybody.

I was thinking about getting a Leopold FC750PD and replacing the switches with Kailh Box Royals.
Has anybody ever tried that before and knows how easy (or not) it is to disassemble the board and desolder the Cherry switches from the Leopold PCBs?

Would love to hear a few comments on this.
It would also be my first full desoldering and replacing job :)

Well I desoldered the MX Blues on my FC660M & put in Zealios 67g, so kinda similar to what you're planning to do?
Disassembling the board is pretty easy. Just find a credit card and pry the case open.
Desoldering is... desoldering. Nothing special there. The same for soldering in new switches.

Desoldering is a bit tricky, but slow and steady wins the race! The only damage you can inflict on the board is if you crank the temperature too high on your soldering iron. Feel free to msg if you have any questions :D
Very busy with studies atm.

Found a much better solution :D
Candykeys offers a service for replacing the switches on a board and since I wanted to order the board there I will go with their service.
