If you use hasu’s AEK layout plate, matias’ plate mount stabilizers will work just fine with AEK keys. As hasu points out, beyond that there are many variables to consider.

Yes, I was going to get the alps64 pcb and fr4 aek plate, both from Hasu.

Then I guess both stabs and keycaps I've listed would work. Thanks Hasu and crd!

My AEK plate was designed for Apple Extended Keyboard layout, the keycaps you linked doesn't fit on it because its bottom row is completely diffrent. I'd recommend you get from keycaps and stabilizers from Apple Extended Keyboard(including II).

Is the PCB compatible with Mekanisk Klippe or KBDfans tofu cases?
I'm thinking about try to build an alps build. Where can I get the stabs?

Yes. These PCBs were designed with universal tray mount cases in mind. Due to alps switch spacing, you won’t be able to screw down at the center standoff but that doesn’t appear to be an issue in my experience.
You can source costar stabs from a number of places including the donor boar you harvest your switches and keys from. Matias also has some https://matias.store/products/stabilizer-and-hook-set

I'm encountering an issue with my keyboard. It seems intermittently I'll enter my Layer 2, which is modal, without hitting the trigger key (right Ctrl). I know I'm in it, because tapping right Ctrl will exit the layer and resume normal keyboard operations. I've only noticed this happening since I switched to a USB-C to USB-Mini cable. I certainly don't recall it ever happening with a standard USB-A cable.

Not really sure where to start diagnosing this. Hardware? Software?

Anyone else encountering something like that? I'm attaching my current firmware.

hmm, I haven't heard problem like this from users so far.
I don't think usb cable causes the issue.  Your keymapping looks sane and should work without unexpected layer switching. Your firmware is previous version but I don't thinks it causes too.

I'd guess the key(right ctrl/T2) turns on some reason like switch defect, diode defect or ...

Though, weird things that I cannot guess can happen sometimes.
First, try the latest firmware, you can download from Keymap Editor link below.
Also try other USB cable.

The bottom row looks like 1.5u-1.5u blocker-1.5u-5u spacebar-1.5u, so no it wouldn't work.

I have an orange build using this PCB, the spacebar requires pressing in the center and action directed downwards and towards my body if that makes sense to depress completely smoothly, otherwise it is met with grinding force. Anyone know if this is due to incorrect stabilizer wires on the spacebar? The pieces of the stabilizer wire slide into black pieces on the spacebar.

What board did the caps & more importantly the stabilizers come from? The plate that comes with the ALPS64 is made specifically for the AEK layout & caps, the AEK's spacebar uses a wire that has it's return bends to catch the cap inserts that is shorter than any other ALPS spacebar stabilizer I have ever seen. So wire is the likely culprit, even if it is from an AEK/AEKII since any little bend could cause those issues as well IME. If you could post some pics of the stabilizer or that plus a video of what the spacebar is doing we could get a better ideal of what is really going on with your board.

Caps appear like they are from an M0116, I'm unsure where stabs came from, it's not my build. Does the picture help? I can remove the stabilizer wire if needed, I'd just rather not given the time it takes to reseat it back in its clips :) As you can see the wire slides into the open end of plastic on the spacebar.

Link to album which has more pictures.

Space bar keycap should have gray cylinder part that attached on cruciform hole. The part looks as follows.
I think lack of it may cause issue you described.

Thank you Hasu, you are right this grey cylinder part is missing from my spacebar- however the issue that I'm having is this grinding primarily occurs on the right side and this grey cylinder part would slide into the black piece on the left side.

Is this cylinder part removable by any chance? I can't check my two stock SKCM Blue boards at the moment.

Yes, the part is removable.

I tried testing spacebar without/with the part and I confirmed it prevents space bar from misalining and
and mitigates scratches on both sides somewhat, not completely though.

I found right end of stab wire looks bent slightly in the first pic, it may cause also.

Ah, you have other Alps boards and you can know how space bar works. You will have to compare them to know what your problem is.
Also Contact builder or previous owner of the keyboard, he/she may know something.

[noob alert] K32-K37 not registering
« Reply #1275 on: Wed, 15 January 2020, 21:54:54 »
Tested the pcb, looked good. Soldered diodes, testing along the way; all was well. Got my switches on and the following keys do not register with default firmware:

~1
[tab] q
[caps] a

Caps is a push button white switch, the rest are oranges. All switches were in working condition before assembly.
Wiped with isopropyl, checked the diodes (one is at a wonky angle but it was working fine before and doesnt seem to be touching anything its not supposed to be touching), soldering looks good.

I'm at a loss. Is this one of those "broken columns" I keep hearing about?

First, try flashing the latest firmware downloaded from Keymap Editor again.
Then, check whether Left Shift(K31) and Left Control(K30) work well. If those keys are good, the problem will be around D32 probably. Try solder both pads of D32.

Can you share some pics of the pcb at the problematic keys, in particular Caps(K32)?  I or someone may find something there.

@BeeBread - i'm not positive how the matrix was created, but that's probably two columns (and wouldn't be a broken column if the ones below work)
- the pcb registered these pads before switches were put in ("tested the pcb")?
- did you stress/flex the pcb when you were installing plate/switches? (this happened to me once on a different pcb)
- you can test if you broke traces by using a multi-meter and putting it into continuity mode (should make a sound when there is a connection)
      • to test, one leg will have common with the adjacent switch in the column, the other leg will have common with the anode end of the diode. if you have a broken trace around the switch, you can just jumper the leg to to the adjacent soldering point.
     • (be careful that you do not bridge the switch, this will act like it's constantly being pressed. and of course, DO ALL OF THIS WHILE IT'S NOT PLUGGED IN)

Yes, the case is pressing against the little extended tab. I would file down the case though, instead of the PCB. You just need to remove enough so the tab will fit into the case a bit.

The two pins actually look ok as they are.

Would it be possible to re-upload the image here (to a stable uploading service!) so that we can see what you're talking about? 🙏🏿

Also, does anyone know if hasu's Alps64 PCB/plate will fit in KBDfans's Tofu 60% aluminum case?

Oh sweet. No filing necessary? (The first post in this thread mentions having to file either the PCB or the case with respect to a different KBDfans case.)

Does Hasu have a USB-C version available? If not, is it trivial to just switch out the female mini-B USB connector with a female USB-C connector?

You can't just replace the connector on the PCB. You need to modify the PCB design.

There was no filing needed for the TOFU case. I did not use hasus plate, but I do not think it needs modification.

Is there a reason it's not USB-C? Slash are there plans for USB-C in the future?

Got it!

You'll have to ask hasu, iirc, it's a question of reliability. Some prefer mini over C.  ;D

There are other projects with USB-C tho, like plain60 alps edition, my own steezy60 and others, but not stocked and available afaik.

It would be easier to use the cable intended for use. Or spend $2, and get the correct cable.

My other mechs use USB-C, and an adapter would be janky. Otherwise, your suggestion is the most obvious and simple, that's for sure! :)

If your laptop only has USB-C, you could get a USB-C to Mini-B cable. (not an adapter)

I just have one USB-C cable coming out of the back of my display (acting as a dock of sorts). So to have a second USB cable down by my keyboard would not be esthetically ideal.

I think a patently USB-C PCB is the way to go (for me). Thanks everyone for your suggestions and help ❤️
