Too funny. I just orderd 8 different colors of 10' sleeving, the same manufacturer as these, and a bunch of Type A and Type B Mini USB connectors and hoods. I then closed the browser went to geekhack SPY and saw this thread. I got my color samples from the manufacturer about a week ago, the same ones you show. I wanted to post a pic, even took it, but didn't want to step on Whisker's toes.

- Hot glue the crap out of the cable into the case so it doesn't move around
- you'll have to shave a little plastic off the sides of the lower have of the case so the female connector will fit.

Can someone help me find a high-end keyboard that is TKL and has a detatchable cord?Funny you say that... Leopolds have a removable cable though I don't know how well a cable will or will not fit throught the channels in the case. You could always make the center channel bigger with a file without too much hassle. I love my Leopold, wouldn't trade it for anything.

Definitely wear some kind of particulate filtering mask as carbon-fiber has fiberglass in it's composition.
Say what? Carbon fiber is by definition... carbon fiber, not fiber glass. However it's as nasty if not worse.
Typically for a flexible carbon fiber product I'd expect some flexible resin and not much else.
So, if I use ultra clear on the carbon fiber sleeve, the fraying is gone and looks pretty good. I'll give that a shot tomorrow.

I don't want you jeopardizing your health using that raw product. Sure I gave the money but I don't expect you to risk your hands/lungs for my crummy usb cable.
I would rather see you enjoying putting something together rather than be forced in playing with this type of dangerous material. I won't stand for it.
Please use another material for my sleeving. Just keep the difference in price for yourself. If I had known that you would be dealing with RAW Carbon Fiber I would never had placed the order.

^^I noticed this as well. After the fabric is heatshrinked onto the cable, it get's harder. I picked at the ends for a few minutes and they haven't frayed yet. However, I personally don't like how it doesn't get a good seal around the cable. I might have to discontinue this option.
Edit: It won't fall off. It's on there pretty well.

So, my original carbon fiber test cable was only about 1 ft long and seemed to work out well. On the first 6ft carbon fiber cable I just tried, I ran into a few issues. First, I need to pick up some sort of painters mask (probably tomorrow sometime) because there are tons of tiny fibers that fly off (and I feel like I have cotton throat). Apparently breathing in carbon fiber isn't good for you.

For sure, you can tie that baby around your Roo-bar and tow the Landcruiser easily.
Also be careful how you coil it with velcro straps. I went a little crazy and the orange end slipped off. Just slipped it back on and it was no problem.

Yeah, so far they are awesome! As for the properties of the silica cable, I'm not exactly sure what it's made of. But physically, it's thin, lightweight, soft, shiny, and very strong. Also, it doesn't seems to expand or contract at all. Has a white/silvery look to it. Hope that answers your question.yep answers my question also surprised it costs even more than the aramid
As for the second batch they are looking good especially those stainless steel ones if i didnt like the aramid so much i would have probably grabbed one of those as it would match my bare stainless steel plate in my keyboard ;)

Perhaps this has been covered, but I didn't see it. The connector for the cables on Filco boards is available for purchase for pennies, sorry don't remember where I read this, but it's a common molex connector. Would it be possible for a custom cable to come in a 2 piece that I saw earlier on this thread, with a short, say 3 inch, part that would come out of the board to the main detach point, and the same short piece terminating in the Filco molex connector? The second, longer piece in the 2 piece configuration would start with the 2nd half of the detach point, and then terminate in a standard USB port? I'll look to see if I can find that molex connector, but a picture of it is shown here at http://imgur.com/a/Yhahf#16 The final result would be a detachable cable Filco without the need to have to add in a jack to the board, should just be disassemble, pop out old cable, pop in short run of new detachable cable and snake thru existing opening, reassemble, connect rest of cable, and plug in. Thoughts anyone?

Is the closest thing I have done so far. I guess I could attach one of those recording boxes to it and make it say that everytime you plug in your USB cable if you'd like. Might make it a little bulkier :O

Yep! Only issue will be fitting it into the case. 2 piece connectors are just a little bit too pricey at the momentmake a grommet out of 2 orings and some heat shrink.
What profosist said about the female mini b connector is correct. I've seen a DIY with hot glue which seems like it works, but personally I wouldn't really want hot glue on the inside of the keyboard casing. Even though it's on the inside, I feel like it loses its 'clean' factor. That's just me though.

Apparently the filco connector I got wasn't the right size. I got some more accurate measurements from theprofosist, so I'm going to go for second order run here soon. I have carbon in stock and platinum gray (not gray) in stock. I can definitely get gray though! As for the connector, yes it would be USB Mini-B. In the order form you would just select standard USB connectors.

I think she might be a lesbian, because every time we drive by the hardware store, she moans like a cat in heat.

Every ****ing day I have to look at this huge Great Dane walk around half-stoned from the second-hand smoke. Hell, sometimes I even think it's trying to talk with its constant bellowing. Also, both of them are constantly hungry, requiring multiple stops to McDonalds and Burger King, every single ****ing day.
Anyway, I drive these ****tards around in my van and we solve mysteries and ****.

I love the look of it as well. Just I am not that advanced at tinkering with electronics like that if I wanted to mod it to where it would fit.

I remembered that (dare I mention his name) 'Ripster' did a photo shoot showing how he had taken apart his Filco for a cable replacement.
I meant does mimic make filco cables that have the white plug as shown in the youtube video so all I have to do is unplug the stock one and plug in the custom one? I want a mini usb plug on the case like the poker so I can detach the usb cable at will.
heya, the filco cables I sell already have the molex connector on. so, all you do is open the keyboard casing, unplug the existing cable, and plug in the new one.

They look the same as the ones I have. They're not bad (certainly not horrible in any way), but not as nice as the straight ones and can only go one direction unless you mod the housing.

Hey TJ what is your connection with the "old" mimic cable? I never actually got this taken care of before Mistake left and it is now completely frayed. Are you taking over? Should I go through techkeys?

I can. The pricing is a little higher as the parts are more expensive, so it'd add $5 to any order. Also I can only do male to male or male to female usb a 3.0.

Earlier I asked about white connectors and you said that you could use heat shrink but it wouldn't look great. Is there any way to see what that would look like (I have seen some from other cable makers and they seem ok).

What has been your favourite sleeve material and why?
I'm thinking of ordering a MDPC sleeve, but I already have one of your cables (which I love btw) with it and I'm worried it might be harder to fit into a small keyboard bag.
Also just curious if you can do coiled cables; this would probably require a softer sleeve.

Both ends of this cable seem to not have the large black plastic connectors on them and are only shrink-wrapped. Is it possible to custom order a cable that is similar?

Yeah, I think I have the check box set up for it. If not, know that if you request coiled in the comments, instead of however many feet you order, it will be inches once coiled. IE - 6 ft cable turns into 6 inch coiled cable
