Topre Endgame
« on: Thu, 21 May 2015, 19:59:21 »
So... I think this is it for me - for Topre at least. Here are my 3 boards :)

Realforce 87UB Type-S 55g with swapped UV LEDs
Realforce 23UB Type-S 55g with swapped UV LEDs
HHKB Pro 2 Type-S 55g Hasu's Controller (with perpler novatouch tkler mx slerders)

PAST:

WARNING: This is eventually gonna turn into another endgame thread as I'm about to finish my Topre collection :D

But I just wanted to show you guys the LED swap so far. Had some flat top ultra high brightness UV LEDs from another project so I figured I'd test out the Hakko FR-300 desoldering gun that I just got - works beautifully.

Comparison between UV LED and stock Blue LED.

Wow. That's my kind of endgame.

Does the HHKB (or topre for that matter) feel different when using the novatouch mx stems?

If yes, how so?

It does not, they're slightly shorter than a regular slider, but I don't mind the bottom out feeling + I have another set of Type-S sliders for it.

How do these feel compared to a stock Novatouch? Is 55g that much better?

45g vs 55g is purely personal preference.

BUT having a 45g HHKB and a Novatouch, the feels have quite a difference and I definitely prefer the HHKB. More of a downward deeper 'THOCK' sound, with less of a clack on the upstroke. Its magical.

Interesting. Sorry not to hijack this thread too much but wouldn't the difference in sound be purely the difference between the thick PBT of the HHKB and thin ABS of the Novatouch? Or was this with the same kind of caps on both?

I put some Vortex PBT doubleshots on my Novatouch Day 1, never even attempted to try the stock caps.  So yes, this is with PBT on both. The sounds are still very different.

Have you tried 30g?  I haven't but curious

Nope, don't plan to tbh. 45g is already too light to rest your fingers on. Don't need the rotation of the earth to trigger my keys to register.

You Sir, have some very heavy fingers. I can easily rest my fingers AND apply some pressure before toggling the switches.

HHKB needs OG dyesubs + alu case before endgame
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

I think an ALU case would be interesting..but a bit worried it would just end up feeling like a Realforce instead....I like both but the HHKB just has a warmer feel to it which I'm sure comes from the plastic case mounted switches....Put ALU in there and it would lose a lot of the warmth...but as far as coolness factor..yeah..it would be sweet...
