PSA on ripster
« on: Thu, 25 February 2016, 16:23:55 »
Hello everyone,

Ever since ripster was banned, he has repeatedly rejoined geekhack, using new accounts. The mod team ban these accounts once we notice them. This game of cat and mouse has been going for the past 4 years since ripster was banned. After banning a few of his accounts today, we wanted to share this information with you, in case you are wondering why these accounts may be gone.

Below are the accounts that we have banned:
crickclackman
vanwinkey
tronbeaver
BrewCaps
MeltingTeeth
Huxley2500
Herothereu
CaplockJack
Homenubbie

Mods can tell from IP address. Everyone else can tell by the trolling and how he types.

I see.

As I look at the profiles of the names and see their comment history, I realize I recognize most of them and remember the comments. Wow.

Sucks, but the ban is permanent, and he brought it upon himself. His pooping on gh over at Reddit doesn't help either.

I guess I can see where he came from. I was immature and got banned from a certain gaming forum 5 or so years ago, and I wanted to revisit the site for nostalgic purposes since the community was cool, but a permaban is perma :/

(In case anyone wants to know why I got banned, I got exposed as a cheater, I was trying to make it seem like I was more leet than I actually was.)

He didn't just get banned from GH.  He got banned from DT, OCN, and other subreddits as well.

Tru, tru. He has some good info at times, but I read up on some of the stuff that happened and saw he can get a little extreme at times.

Reddit forum, by software and by design, isn't made for great, long discussions. Most of the talks end up being among two people, lost in an hidden child discussion hidden beneath layers of obfuscation.
Furthermore, when expressing a clear and honest opinion, you may be worried about down votes.
I can see why he comes back here, because on gh he can find thoughts deep as a well sculpted scoop.

You'll never get a straight answer. People just say that he was an *******, which is accurate, but not very descriptive.

Here they explain that iMav chose not to reveal the details of why he was banned:

Very relevant quote from that thread:
something you need to keep in perspective though... he was allowed to remain active after exploiting the forums multiple times, against multiple users.  he was allowed to continue breaking the wikis after numerous warnings.  through all of this, iMav was vocal about what was going on.  iMav has been fairly transparent about managing these forums, yet he's chosen not to share anything as to why ripstard was banned.

that alone speaks volumes.

Intentionally so.

Some things don't need to be shared with everyone in the world.  If he did something that iMav wasn't willing to share, I assure you it's pretty severe.  Maybe just leave it at that?

This isn't some big conspiracy that's been going on for 4 years.

I will say as someone who was around at the time but not yet part of the moderation staff, that he made the forum a miserable place to be. ****posting in basically every thread, provoking the mods, attacking people. He went off the deep end and he deserved to be banned. He was also banned from Deskthority and /r/keyboards around the same time.

iMav has chosen not to disclose all the details, but he deserved what he got in any case, just from what was visible publicly.
