Anyone has a link for how to install holtites? pushing the holtites down into pcb is too painful because the hole is too tight, cant even feel my fingers anymore  :'(

Anyone has a link for how to install holtites? pushing the holtites down into pcb is too painful because the hole is too tight, cant even feel my fingers anymore  :'(

Super seconded.  I'm hoping to use holtites on this board.

Search... Literally was the first hit on YouTube.

In some capacity, I was trying to get a more specific guide for this PCB.

I have heard that the backspace doesn't necessarily install but I can't figure out why from a Google search.  I don't have the holtites yet, I'm trying to ask so I don't tinker before having complete information on a very expensive board :/

Just did a full holtite install on my VE.A, your main enemy is lifting pads.

You don't want to keep the heat on them for too long so it took me a few passes per switch.
First pass you just want to get the collar about halfway into the pcb. Second pass is the attempt get them sitting flush.
For me, the third pass was just touching everything was perfect.

I lifted a few pads on the macros before figuring this out.
I've come to view humanity as predominantly monkey business.

found a use for those leftover sticker pieces.  Dampen the clipped stablizers as they hit the pcb.

that's a good idea! How do they compare with bandaids/cosmetic tape?

I want to know this as well. I've done bandaid mod with my other builds and I still have the leftovers from the stickers.

Just have a short question. Why do we need to put weight on Viper/Eagle?
They are already heavy enough?... it doesn't move at all when typed?..

Was looking for dimensions specific to the PlateOutline-HHKB.ai file. A dxf file including dimensions was requested, so just looking for measurements.

Here's the info that Lasergist requested, let me know if you need anything other than what is listed.

Plate Thickness: 1.5 mm
Height: 103.9mm
Width: 285.75mm
Path Length(total): 4887.588mm

Additionally, I asked them to verify that the plate measures 11.25″ by 4.0906″.

Silly question for those who have used plate mount switches - Do you ever get a bit paranoid that it could possibly damage the PCB someday, since it's floating and only sustained by solder joints?

I was going to try buying some Vintage Blacks for a different keyboard but that thought made me hesitate. I know I'm probably worrying for nothing though, but I thought I'd ask since some of you have used them in these Viper 2's!

On a side note: If you want a good home for your Viper V2, let me know! :(

I use plate mounted switches for everything but the stabilized keys (and sometimes other mods on compatibility plates) and have never had an issue. I hate installing PCB mount switches as they are a pain to get seated properly and uniformly and I always worry about accidentally breaking or bending the plate or PCB.

I would go for it!

They should be M3 threaded counter sunk screws for the front of the case.  The back are hex socket screws.

Given how long it's taking in the BlackBird weight buy, it's going to be a loooooong time to get this (that prior buy needs to end before this one begins), so you might want to cut your hype for a while :(

I purchased an extra plate and PCB to be safe. You should contact elton to ask but I would assume no.

This is why you purchase an extra to be safe.

Got my kit new but second hand, I'd have bought a spare if I had been in the group buy.

Luckily my board is functional but it's lighting is messed up due to a unfortunate short. If I can't find a new PCB I may just see if anyone is interested in a spare case. Hate to see this thing go to waste.

Just exploring options at the moment. Would also entertain anyone who might be able to repair the PCB.

I'd be interested in a spare case. I'd also be curious to see where the short is in the PCB itself. Maybe it's an easy fix.

I think it shorted near the right shift / enter key. The underglow RGB  near that spot just sort of flickers / freaks out a bit on that side. It's mostly an underglow issue, everything else seems okay.

I'm trying to figure out if theres a hard reset to default on the keyboard as opposed to booting into flash mode for firmware. I can load firmware just fine but i'd like to see how the board behaves when it's back to default, if that's even possible.

As it stands the board is fine as far as typing goes but I think the rgb is a just wrecked.
