Mine already arrived at my friend's house in Washington, so they're probably going to be popping up soon. Post your findings here!

Already?

That was quick!

Not expecting mine for another couple of weeks (mind you, it has got a long way to swim ...).
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Mine will be here on Saturday, also got a local friend who ordered two bags.

Its my first crap bag, what can I expect? are they all just missprints and mess ups, or are there actually any good caps in any of these.

Most of them will be good, but odds are you will never find a complete set! There will be several messed up caps, which you will either want to throw out or keep as souvenirs. Also you may find some lovely one-off caps in there!

yeah, i'm not expecting full sets, but I guess depending on what I get I'll order another bag if they still have some.

I really like the idea of making a unicorn board for the lulz, though I just sold my last extra board I had laying around.

I believe last round someone here was about 3 or 4 caps shy of making a full TKL with nothing but a single letter.

The two that come to mind are the plum retro dsa geekhack key and the geekhack backspace key and a deformed key that reminds me of a crowbar.

And the pile of keys made for a cool pic for a mousepad.

Those are some seriously cool pictures.

The one killer for me was the shipping to the UK. Combine that with the customs charge I would have to pay, and it would cost me like $80/90 for all that stuff :(
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Here's the ones I found kind of interesting.  I have a ton of boring ones too and a bag of useless stuff and ML, but didn't shoot that.

To start, the perfect cap for Spamray and a potentially kinky cap.  Too bad they're ML.

What are these abortions of caps?  I mean, seriously, what are they?  They're thin as hell (at least the grey ones are) and are no bigger than a switch.  Also got one of those weird "gamer" caps and a clear top to something.

German caps?

DCS "jellies".  They've got a jelly look to them and are semi-translucent.

Bunch of SA and maybe SS profile blanks.  Have I mentioned how much I despise this profile?

A bunch of DCS and something that seems lower than DCS blanks.  Some wonky Cherry MX stems there too.

Bunch of DSA blanks.  Some seem thinner than normal.

Stuff from GBs.  Hyperfuse, Valentines, and the Lavendar are sexy. The Blue and Charcoal in the back is sexy as hell too, but I hate the profile.

Some cool windowed DSA.

Some interesting legend caps in various profiles.  I don't think Bill Gates would approve of the Windows logos.

Change with a little red dyesub (maybe?) shooting star and a mu key.

2.5 lbs and only two Alps.  I am much disappoint.

The interesting novelty caps and such.  Love the lotus and the hands are okay.  TGIF is some weird square mount.  The anchors are interesting, but I have no clue what they're from.

DUDE I NEED THAT ERR COR key.  That will make a perfect cap for my Reset switch.  How much you want for it if I don't get one in 7.5 pounds of caps?

PM me and we'll figure it out.  I'm a cheap date for those who want something that I don't really need or want, not someone looking to charge $1-4 for a cap.  I'm even cheaper if you have something you're interested in trading from your bags.

Edit:  I'm particularly open to Alps caps.  I was beyond disappointed to only get two.  So if anyone sees anything they want and they have Alps they're willing to trade, you know what to do.

One bag:

TL:  DSA/SA/SS -- TM: caps I found interesting -- TR: reg. DCS/LP/KT
BL: junk -- BR: blank DCS/LP/KT

Edit: forgot, the blue & orange caps bottom right are PBT alps.
Edit2: heh, shone a flashlight in there when looking for something -- the white cap top right is a glow-in-the-dark

I split a bag and for the sake of sanity, these are the only keys I picked out.

Not as many point of sale caps as last year which is nice.  TONS of WoB/Blank SA profile keys and the usual DCS/DSA stuff.

Ok, I must have that lotus cap.  Translucent pink lotus? So sexy, so awesome.

It's sad that that's the only awesome stuff you got in your bag though.  No cool random text caps?

And I just realized, I got the RSS cap in translucent red instead of orange like it's supposed to be.

There might have been some interesting random text caps but I didn't stick around long and left the rest to my buddies.  The pink lotus cap is actually my favorite.  It's also glow-in-the-dark.  :)

There might have been some interesting random text caps but I didn't stick around long and left the rest to my buddies.  The pink lotus cap is actually my favorite.  It's also glow-in-the-dark.  :)

Now I secretly hate you, but don't really.

German caps?
Show Image

The "Halten mit Notiz" and the "Wiederherstellen" ones are German, but the rest is definitely not German. It looks rather Scandinavian to my untrained eye.

"Wiederherstellen" means "restore" and "Halten mit Notiz" is hard to translate for me since I don't really understand in which context it is used here, but I guess it means something like "hold the transaction (or whatever) and add a note to it".

Like nubbinator, I also wish there were more ALPs keys.  I managed to get two.

Aside from getting only a few novelty keys, I've had some cool pulls.

Here are a bunch that I set here for show (ignore the giant wooden space bar)

German? Scandinavian? caps and black DSAs

Moar DSAs.  Subscript keys are quite interesting.

Two ALPs keys and a few MLs.  The teal, camera, and Impendance ML are cool; however, I'd rather have these in ALPs.

I was thinking some were Scandinavian, but recognized some of the German ones, so I wasn't sure.

Edit:  I'm particularly open to Alps caps.  I was beyond disappointed to only get two.  So if anyone sees anything they want and they have Alps they're willing to trade, you know what to do.

Like nubbinator, I also wish there were more ALPs keys.  I managed to get two.

So basically, the world needs more Alps DSA cap group buys, so that there’ll start being more random ones left over in next year’s crap bags.

If only there wasn’t a mismatch between caps for Alps-style stabilizers and Costar-style stabilizers, I think Alps caps from SP would be more popular. As it is, you almost have to have a custom plate + pcb to use the larger SP Alps caps.

Or even on the existing Alps keyboards which use Costar-style stabilizers, so many have those stupid “bigass” enter keys (usually thin ABS with a shoddily printed legend), which are mostly impossible to replace with anything better looking.

There’s a sort of chicken and egg problem here. But since Matias switches are pretty cheap and easily available (and not bad to type on), here’s hoping that some custom Alps plates + pcbs will come into fashion [e.g. Alps ergodox, etc., would be great], and people will start buying more keycaps to put on them.

Have there even been any group buys for DSA Alps caps? I’d even love a batch of PBT blanks, since SP’s inventory only seems to have ABS blanks in some gray color. But pad printed PBT would also be nice, as would double-shots of decorative elements in nice colors.

There have been some ICs for Alps GBs and I've said give them to me, colors be damned in every one I've seen, but none have actually happened.  I'll need some for my Sprit Alps board when that finally happens.

Alps are just fun in general though.  Maybe I'll do a random Alps Geekhack or novelty key group buy.  Something to think about.
