In North Carolina, there is a large tourism industry. This industry makes many people wealthy. Wealthy people control state government policies.
Many times legislature has been proposed to start school two weeks earlier so students can take their finals and midterms before they leave for break, but the rich people strike it down because they think it will hurt the business. Lots of students in coastal areas work jobs in the industry so the owners of resorts and such don't want to lose their labor. It doesn't really make sense to me, because if school ended earlier, people would just go on vacation then. And there is really nothing that can be done about it. The rich will always have the most controlling hand in politics. It just sucks because when I go on break I try to forget about school and all the stress, but as soon as I come back I have exams to take.
